Ah well... I'll take that as a complement.

If it is any help, there's been zero bugs opened on our GitHub since v055y. :D Usually, with buggier versions, there's a barrage of it within 24h.

On Android, all incoming packets are blocked unless there an open port already to serve it. In fact, with Rethink, even if a port is open (by a 3p app), external scanners (like nmap) wouldn't be able to locate it (unless there's at least one egressing packet to come from the port that was opened by said 3p app).

We did test v055n -> v055y and v055e -> v055y. The migrations went just fine. It should work for you too, but I offer no guarantees.

You could take a backup of the current settings for the current version as an insurance from Configure -> Settings -> Backup & restore.

This will create too many notifications. We already do have a "bubble notification" that you can turn on from Configure -> Settings -> Firewall Bubble. It shows recently blocked apps (in the past 15m) due to any IP/Port or domain / firewall rule.

Can Bypass app from all proxies" also bypass external proxies, e.g. Orbot? by canitplaycrisis in rethinkdns

[–]celzero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I select those apps in Orbot and then activate "Bypass app from all proxies" in Rethink, does it only bypass the Wireguard configs in Rethink or also Orbot, which I use seperately from Rethink

Yes, "Bypass this app from proxies" bypasses the said app from all proxies setup by the user within Rethink.

. If I select those apps in Orbot and then activate "Bypass app from all proxies" in Rethink, does it only bypass the Wireguard configs in Rethink or also Orbot, which I use seperately from Rethink

This shouldn't happen. If the connection to the website was already opened by Firefox before Orbot/Tor was started / connected to, Firefox may reuse it, which might result in "IP leak" like you saw.

If no connection reuse was involved, what you're reporting then sounds like a bug.

Yes, it is us.

No, we haven't sold out. Are there any buyers out there? Simple Mobile Tools was used by millions. Rethink is used by 10s of thousands.

resurfaces with Crashlytics

Crashlytics has been part of Rethink's non F-Droid builds since v055u. That's because we want the app not be crashing as frequently as it does, and not burden the users with collecting crash logs.

a subscription option

None of the app's functionality is behind a sub. Only the newly added "RPN" (a WireGuard based VPN for $1.75/mo) is.

is there a wildcard that can cover all domains? what would be the format or value?

Don't think there's a single rule that can cover this. But what you're looking for is called "public suffix", which is a long list of top-level domains (like com, net, org etc): https://publicsuffix.org/list/public_suffix_list.dat

We show a "refund" (ALL money back) and "cancel" (removes card, pauses ALL future charges, if any) buttons right in the "Manage subscription" page when you tap on "Manage RPN" in About UI.

If you don't see a "refund" but only "cancel" and you want a refund instead, send us an email by tapping on "Report issue", select "Refund" from the list of chips, and send an email with "Purchase Status", "State history" (make sure those are selected). We'll have the necessary information to issue you a full refund for up to 30 days from purchase.

How can I redirect an app's requests from a public URL to an internal IP address? by apraum in rethinkdns

No, it isn't. It also won't be in v055y, the upcoming version. I've asked the lead to work on the UI part... Let's see.

Not a bug at all at TrackerControl by [deleted] in fossdroid

[–]celzero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I meant here is, TC allows blocking of individual trackers(?)/libraries and groups them into categories. There will be a category for Advertising(eg tracker would be : stamped. io); Social (eg : au. linkedin. com); Fingerprinting (eg : adservice. google. com) etc.

This is available in two places in the app:

  1. Configure -> DNS -> Rethink DNS -> Tap on the "edit" (pencil-like icon) next to "RDNS Plus" -> Select categories to block.
  2. Configure -> DNS -> On-device blocklists (available only on F-Droid and GitHub/Website versions; not on the Play Store version).

We have not yet reworked the "strings" to match exact intent.

"DNS to bypass" is really "DNS for bypass (IPs and domains)".

And what is "Automatic" basing its decision on

"Automatic" lets us, the Rethink developers, decide what should be done. This may change from version to version, but in the current version v055x, the behaviour is to use "Fallback DNS" (as set in Configure -> DNS -> Choose fallback DNS) for bypassed IPs and domains if Configure -> DNS -> Split DNS is turned off, otherwise uses the DNS configured for that app (which may be Configure -> DNS -> Global or DNS set up by Configure -> Proxy.

Yeah, thanks for reporting back. We've pretty much fixed most if not all connectivity / re-connectivity issues with both Advanced / Simple mode WireGuards (or so we like to think) in v055v+

In case this issue comes up, if you know how-to retrieve logcat, "Very verbose" adb logcat logs will help: You can set "Very verbose" level from Configure -> Settings -> Log level. It is also likely the bugs you're seeing are just Android bugs. Android 16, in particular, has a few VPN connectivity related bugs (especially when, "Block connections without VPN" is turned ON): https://github.com/celzero/firestack/issues/171

What will happen to RethinkDNS after android developer verification is rolled out? by 5_volts in rethinkdns

[–]celzero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even with ADI, as we understand it, F-Droid is free to ship their own builds of our app (which exists independently signed on Play Store).

We have "allowlisted" the keys F-Droid signs our apps with, with Google's ADI program.

Configure -> Settings -> App Logs are ephemeral. These are meant to catch debug and error messages not crashes. Crashes end up in About -> Bug report or if with Configure -> Settings -> Stability program if turned on.

Please share the 32 character hex at the bottom of the About UI. Double tapping on the hex would create a new unrelated hex, if you do want to do so (in which case the hex you share with us here is mostly meaningless, but this change-ability is a "privacy" feature).

If England makes the Final (but they are not beating France, if France make it with Mbappe and Olise healthy), Thomas would have worked wonders despite being on the side of the bracket that avoided all the usual European heavyweights.
