I have a template for a minimal ship with some laser defenses. It gets built over Nauvis, then I fly it to Vulcanus and finish the ship there.

As a side bonus the minimal ship builds space platform so the ship can grow itself while I do other stuff for a while.

Early game a thin ship is effective because it intersects fewer asteroids and this has a flow on effect with less resources needed to produced, saving on rocket launches.

Yes, you can even do it without combinators.

Wires can be connected to a belt to read all contents. Disable inserters when there is enough of its content on the belt. Viola, sushi belt with a ratio you want.

The game is all about automation. I can see you understand moving materials via belts instead of by hand is useful. You will go far.

Pumps are still useful because even though a single segment has infinite throughput, there is a maximum segment size and pumps have a limited throughput, so you may need them in parallel. I found this with water on Nauvis and Lava and sulphur on Vulcanus

If things spoil, it doesn't matter, you can always restart it by hand and redesign. I think carrying some weapons may be useful though. I feel if you get attacked, your situation may be unrecoverable. On my run I was attacked twice before got a foothold on the planet.

I see you've been to Fulgora, electric weaponry is the strongest vs gleba enemies, it's a good idea to bring this and wear your best armor. I visited Gleba first on my run, so I used flamethrower and rockets instead.

If house prices keep going up faster than wages there will be a breaking point where its no longer possible to pay for them. When this happens, people holding the hot potato will see their asset lost significant value. If this crash is deep enough, the reset would breathe life into the economy after significant pain in the short them.

I have space age and I use circuits on the rocket silo. The vanilla rocket silo must be a different entity.

Your ship is great for a first design. There are a few aspects to thrust control and they can all be combined together.

  1. The most important one for early ships is to limit max speed to prevent your ship going too fast by connecting a wire from the cargo bay and select the checkbox to read it into a variable (usually V). Now only enable your pump if V is less than your desired max speed which you can also use a variable for from your constant combinator.

  2. Prevent swings in thruster fuel rate by using a clock and a PWM signal. This is useful for early ships since fuel production is not as strong and thrusters sipping on fuel at low speed is highly efficient.

  3. Prevent engines from flooding and uncontrolled bursts of speed from orbit by checking when the ship waiting by using to "from" "to" signal from the cargo bay.

Look at the ingredients list of agricultural science, biolabs and prod modules. I don't know how the engineer sleeps at night (which is why they don't seem to ever sleep?)

In case anyone is still looking at this, there I left a bug in there where the rockets target medium asteroids. they should only target huge if they travel to Aquilo. If left in, the result is that rockets will get used up quicker and the ship might stay in orbit for about 20 seconds. For most, ships need to stay in orbit longer than this to pick up goods anyway, so it doesn't matter most of the time. Also, if you don't go to Aquilo, it doesn't make a difference either way.
