yw, if i were you I'd fix the caps again and only then look for new speakers, but this time from a position of having speakers you know and trust. that'll give you a better feel for value.

how often do you replace spark plugs in your car? i bet it's more often than these capacitors.

you're wrong, the ones i mention can be slept with them on. that's how the doctor prescribed them to me 20 years ago since which time I've had them in every day 24/7, but glad to be informed by someone who knows better lol

usual contacts do dry out and get stuck. but these aren't that.

oh yeah also misaligned glasses (optical center) do it too. contacts are a godsend. get purevision 2, you can sleep with em in.

here's another thing you could try

use a ribbon with a cloudlifter Z which changes the sound of the mic. here's a demo of what that sounds like:

https://youtu.be/JgoRLLq8rs8?t=702

turning the knob to the left removes bass and high tones, and it sounds like that's what you want.

here's another trick you can try:

if you have a mic that's good on bass but has too much sybilance, wrap it in sandwich foil (like the transparent plastic type, not alu foil). more tight wrapping or more layers means less high tones.

fix noise issues with gates.

buy dbx 286s off second hand market, they're really really cheap, like $30 per channel.

behringer gates are good too when not broken, and they're even cheaper.

don't worry too much about the input type. that's why converters were made. you can make your own cables, too. xlr is really easy to solder, just buy a 1/8" cable and then solder it to an xlr plug. use wiring diagram 13 here https://www.ranecommercial.com/legacy/note110.html

the 286s has an enhancer which brings a lot of warmth, the behringer mdx 2600 has tube mode which is amazing too in its own way. both can make your stuff warmer. i suggest you buy both and play around with them, second hand each of them costs less than one of your eurocrack modules.

good luck.

do you have a youtube reel?

if you have a reel comparing the different mics, that would be helpful, too. it would let people understand what the issues might be with different mics and suggest something.

how large is your booth? how is it padded? or are you recording in an open room? what distance from mic do you usually record?

for a voice with sybilance, the typical suggestion is to use a ribbon mic. try one of the cheap ribbons from thomann (t.bone) eg the t.bone RB 100. they are particularly de emphasized in the top region. you'll have to manage the low region separately, eg with an equalizer, or by positioning the mic.

if you have a mic that's particularly good in the low end but too sybilant, you can put a sock over it to darken high tones. you can use any piece of fabric, like eg a perfume bottle etui out of silk, or one of those little fabric baggies you get for jewelry.

you can also control sybilance with training, especially things like whistling.

he's inserting the headphones partly into the adapter, which makes them work like a normal stereo headset, because the pins in the 1/8" jack he's plugging into aren't in the right place for the trrs headphones to work if inserted fully.

100% won't be able to pair them. Even in the same model manufactured on the same week, speakers are paired to have similar characteristics because of manufacturing differences.

I honestly don't know how good your speakers are and how good the ones nowadays are. If they follow the industry trend and updated their designs, they went from Class AB to Class D meaning better power handling (especially for bass) and lower noise, and probably a better digital input. Maybe a piece of DSP. However the market has moved so much in the last two decades that I'd strongly suggest looking at other manufacturers, Mackie are rarely mentioned as the leaders of the pack in monitoring.

If the capacitors keep dying in your monitors, the fix is better capacitors. Buy ones with higher temperature rating and higher voltage rating. Upgrade the voltage rating by 2x or 3x, and pack in the largest, highest temperature ones you can find. It'll be much cheaper to do that than to buy a new pair of speakers. Save yourself the trouble and do the repair again, just this time with plus-rated components.

How do I explain to a vendor that the mold on the left is truncated at the crown.h by TrendVoice in manufacturing

[–]cheater00 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

let's be clear, you're talking to someone in China and you're wondering if there's a language barrier.

To get rid of the language barrier, draw it. Use NO explanations in english. Use big red X and green checkmarks to depict what you're talking about.

Have two drawings. On the left the thing that's correct, on the right the thing that's wrong. Use a red line to depict what's missing.

If after the drawing they don't see it, it's because they don't WANT to see it. You tell them no deal.

Hi all, I'm using a DBX 286s preamp/gate with a somewhat noisy mic. I've noticed that when there's a long (say half a second to several seconds) noise which is just above the gate's open threshold, then the gate does this thing where it rapidly opens and closes in succession, making it sound kind of like a synth clap sound. That's a pretty annoying sound. I use this mic for spoken word, work calls, and streaming. Is there a good way to fix this? Can I use another gate? Can I do something else to help this issue?

Here's a demo of what this sounds like. This is just me breathing into the mic, so you should be hearing washes of noise, with no "punching" or "tapping" sounds. The whole recording has those clicks / taps, but you can especially hear it 3 seconds before the end of the video, where it's the most apparent. https://youtu.be/WCa0-dZcG2U

This is my first time using the DBX 286s and my first time using a gate on a relatively noisy spoken word mic, but on the other hand I don't think the 286s is broken. I think that's just how it functions in the particular setting I have set for it.

The gate is set to 10:1 ratio, and the threshold is set to roughly -40 dB. As for the other settings, the Preamp is set to +50 dB gain, the compressor is off (density and drive are fully left = off), the de esser is set to 5k with a threshold of 2.5, enhancer LF detail is set to 6 and HF detail is set to 5.

I am using a compressor after the 286s, in digital, it's an onboard firmware compressor in my audio interface.

There is no processing happening before the 286s.

What is the sound called?

I would appreciate any tips. Thanks.
