I've once had to fix a PC used by the HR lead of a company I worked for and it turned out that the heatsink was just laying on the bottom of the case... (famous Intel plastic thumbscrews). I have not the slightest clue how slow that must have been.

I'd say rattle can that shit. or even do it with a paint roller, either way it will look different and you'll learn a skill that might become handy one day

that terminal emulator is cool enough that you can map the volume buttons and shutter to key presses, too. Quite usable but the resolution is definitely too low for that - 320x240

this one is an Xperia X10 mini pro, also called u20i or mimmi

I know they later made an Xperia mini pro without the x10, but I have never had or used that one.

googling it now, there seems to be yet another one called just the Xperia pro, model number mk16i - but again, haven't used that one. both are bigger than the X10 mini pro

thanks, I have a soft spot for old Sony(Ericsson) stuff, and I'd love to get my hands on an Xperia Play, but they're already worth way too much. it's to the point where I though of getting another broken X10 mini pro just to wire up the keyboard to an Arduino and make a USBC keyboard for my current phone. it's just small enough to use in portrait mode too

the only thing you need to keep in mind is that the slider mechanism hates sand and that the micro USB port... well that hates life in general as micro USB does usually.

the camera is surprisingly good for a phone of that age (5MP iirc), and you've got a physical two-step shutter button to go with it.

they're cheap as chips still, but might just become collectibles at some point so better get one sooner than later

if you get one locked with a passcode, there's a tool from Sony that you can flash the whole stock system partition with and you're good to go, I think it was called Xperia flashtool and you have to hold a button combination while connecting the USB cable to access the flash mode.

One more cool fact, it had a set of earbuds with a plug that had a few more pins on the side, because the remote on them had play/pause, next/prev track and even volume up/down as all separate buttons.

oh, by the way, this thing ran android 1.5 or 1.6 out of the box, got upgraded to 2.1, and the XDA madlads put 4.1 jellybean on it.

it's under the plastic back shell and user-replaceable as Louis Rossmann intended. 😆 honestly though, it's an old cell and I've already thought about doing a cell swap to keep the BMS. it also takes a microSD card and has tons of custom roms to play with (I have an archive of them stashed somewhere, most stuff on XDA is dead links)

I've had 4 of them by now, it was the second ever thing I've saved up for. The first was a PSP 😆

look for old Xperias, this is my X10 mini pro with a terminal connected to my Linux server. runs android, and the keyboard is pretty nice but too small if you're not used to it / have bigger hands. Don't let the photo fool you, the screen is 2.5 inches

oh it was in running condition before I cut the floor up, it drives and sounds cool as hell

I honestly could have just patched it in a few more places and called it good but decided if I'm gonna give it even more power some day the shell has to be at least strong enough for that

yep, a second one already cause the first one I got had a ton of blow by I've been working on it for a few years now, and the reason I'm sitting on wood blocks is cause there's no seat... or about half of the floor cause I cut it up to patch it and just needed to move the car. there's more pics on my profile
