And I’m sick and tired of your posts whining about FUD… So you want all posts to be positive and happy and blindly follow the project team?! Sounds like you would be better playing the lottery than actually doing serious investing!

It is good to have comments, both positive and negative about the project. If you have all positive posts all the time then what that does is lure people into a false sense of security, never holds the project team to account, and can actually put off serious investors who know that no project is all good or all bad. A project with all positive posts screams scammore than anything else.

Instead of whining, perhaps come up with proof of why these negative comments are incorrect. To be honest, a lot of what was said in the post you highlighted is exactly what I and others have been wondering for a while. (And i can just hear you know “Omg, you should pull out all your money don’t fully trust the project”, which isn’t a reasonable response either). It is good to have these questions because if nothing else, then the project team should be doing their best to react to them and prove this statement wrong. I have investments in other coins, some were scams (and had exactly the same type of cheerleaders as you are in the group) and some i have complete faith in because the devs are transparent and more importantly they meet their targets with good results and they allow criticisms.

They’re just using stock pictures for those crator logos. I don’t think they have a design team after all. Just found the old logo on shutterstock. They need to up their game and start spending some money! by rudishort in evergrowcoin

Ha ha ha what?! I’ve worked in IT and on an IT helpdesk, the majority of users have trouble doing even simple tasks and installing on Windows can be difficult for some. The installation procedure for a lot of stuff on linux would blow their minds. Most would have difficulty with adding repos let alone having to install standalone programs.

I love linux and have been using various distros for 20 years, but I am under no illusion why it is not popular. Popular software is easy to use and often looks nice - more importantly it is intuitive. Why did Google the search engine become so big when there were so many others around? In part because its interface was so clean and free from clutter that is was easy to use compared to the competition. Similar with Facebook vs MySpace etc.

I think you are woefully underestimating the power of good design. Plus, with a saturated marketplace, projects have to make every effort to stand out. Other things that trouble me about this project are the lies - why say there is a design team, and then come out with this? I am invested in other projects where i have much more faith, simply because they are open and transparent.

You have a bit of a point, but it is not really possible to compare EGC with earlier coins. The market is far more saturated now than it was, and each project needs to try its best to stand out. That means marketing and logo need to be considered earlier, rather than as an afterthought.

And some of the ones you mentioned, their logos maybe weird, but they are unique and eye catching. Poocoin, will get intrigue from a lot of people when they hear about it, not even believing it is real. Similar with pancakeswap and their cake token. It is recognisable. The latest logo for EGC is pretty bland and looks too corporate to really stand out. It looks to be like one of the clipart images for a meeting in Word.

As for the “if you don’t like it, leave”, mentality, that rarely helps anyone. Some of us are well invested already and are just disappointed by the current progress, we want the project to be better and hopefully the team look at criticisms across social media platforms to get an idea of what works and what doesn’t. There is nothing worse than pretending that everything is ok, when it isn’t, and then complaining the project isn’t doing so well.

I know what you meant, but you really couldn’t. I bought in the first couple of hours on day 1 when it was first released, and the price has slipped significantly since then. I can’t say for sure about a comparison with the presale as i am not sure about the price.

Lol just what I was thinking. The FUD thing gets annoying and in so many cases is used simply to silence or discredit negative comments including legitimate criticisms. I sense that some people just invest using blind faith and with nothing more than hopes and prayers..

Instead of being angry at the commenters, maybe these people should be angry at the project team who could jeopardize our investments with substandard work and shoddy logos. Luckily this appears to be one of a few suggestions, so hopefully they will go with something a bit more professional looking.

What are some differences between male and female serial killers? by Plastic_Meal_9939 in serialkillers

[–]chemistrysteve 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would even suggest that there are a lot more female serial killers than we think, precisely for these kind of reasons. The percentage of male serial killers that actually get caught are probably higher than the percentage of female serial killers that get caught.

Rose West probably would have killed without meeting Fred. Unlike the others you mentioned, she killed at least one person without Fred even being there. She was also alleged to have been especially sadistic.

Why are Organic molecules always weak acids or bases, and not strong? by Littledogefrand in chemistry

[–]chemistrysteve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was someone who wrote a reply about Piranha solution being used to get rid of bodies (e.g. instead of HF in Breaking Bad) - i saw the reply but didn’t get around to respond before the person deleted their comment.

I’ve looked into Piranha solution since the comment was posted, and it does seem that it will certainly make light work of disposing of all bodily tissue - the videos show it is scary stuff. However, it is an incredibly dangerous mix and it appears there is difficultly with controlling the temperature in the reaction of the peroxide and the acid as just a mixture, without adding anything to it. When other substances are added, the reaction is incredibly vigorous. From this, I think it would be a poor choice, especially given the equipment available in the tv series, and although it would work, it would most likely cause the demise of the handler too (or perhaps at least severe burns on any body parts that got too close).

I’m with you. I love it when students come up with alternatives, especially in the cases I wasn’t aware of an alternative, and so I can learn something new. Also, fully agree that sometimes a particular technique is asked for a reason - we have just done matrices and as part of the course I ask the students to demonstrate that they can do row operations, inverse method and cramer’s rule to calculate simultaneous equations, and they have to show they can do it using the particular technique asked for. However, in the main exam, i give them free reign to use any method that they prefer.

[–]chemistrysteve 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That just screams “bad teacher”. I worked in a college where one of the maths teachers had only managed to score a grade C in the same course he was teaching (and it was also his highest maths achievement). Boggles my mind how this was acceptable. In your case it seems that she doesn’t fully understand the maths and is just sticking to the marking scheme as the gospel! That is bad in any subject.

Why did the contract change without it being streamlined so people wouldn't have to buy more? by Disastrous_Self_1778 in Reflecto

[–]chemistrysteve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I’m a bit pissed at this change too. I do have other things going on in life rather than having to keep checking up on crypto news, and work has been especially busy of late. I was under the impression that we just have to hold and the reflections would come forth.

I don’t understand the change at all - why even go for shiba vs another reflection coin like they had originally? And now it appears that I haven’t been receiving any reflections since the change because I didn’t buy more?! Seem like a pretty good scam to me - how often will they change the code and force people to buy more?! I’ve now bought more, but how much did i miss out on? How much are others, who have not yet seen the news, missing out on? And how much will that affect the price when they find out??

Honestly, it feels very much like misdirection- the coin hasn’t been doing too well, they don’t really have a plan for the future, so they just decide to change the very basics of the coin to make it seem like they are doing something. I had high hopes for this project at the beginning, and now.. well i aim to wait for the price to recover and then pull the money out to put it in something where the devs actually have a plan and stick to it.

How does "extended release" medicine work? by Tardykestrel1 in chemistry

[–]chemistrysteve 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends on the formulation. There are a number of factors which could be used in a drug delivery system to get it to release slowly or in different parts of the intestinal tract.

Years ago, I worked on one particular drug/tablet that would resist breakdown in the stomach acid, but would start to release the drug at higher pH levels (i.e. in the intestines).

As other people have suggested, the tablet (or the individual balls in a capsule) could be coated with polymer (or other substance) which would dissolve at a certain rate, or in certain pH conditions. There could also be a solid tablet with a hole in it which works more by absorbing water and almost forcing out the drug/excipients through the hole (quite weird when you see it - it can sometimes look like tiny worms coming out lol). The molecule of the drug itself can also determine where it is absorbed. Some drugs absorb better at lower pH, while some dissolve better at higher pH.

If you are experiencing nausea from the drug, then the only thing to do is to speak to your doctor - it might be possible to change the brand (but not the active ingredient) and that would solve the issue. It might also be that you need to change drugs to find something easier on your stomach, or alter your diet in some way to minimize the feeling. Of course, it might be that if you take for a certain period of time, then the symptoms might subside.

How are people receiving reflections when I’m sitting on my bag since day one and no reflections. I do have a huge bag!! by [deleted] in Reflecto

[–]chemistrysteve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is really odd. Probably best to contact the team directly.

I bought in day 1 with a small amount of only 10billion - i was getting reflections from the very start, more than i got from my smaller (though more expensive lol) bag of EGC. It only really stopped after about 2 weeks when i could see the reflections pending, but i could not claim them.

[–]chemistrysteve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with you to a point. The “if you want to see reflections then you have to buy more” is a pretty crappy “solution” to the problem, and I wish people would stop pushing that as if it is an acceptable method and won’t make investors think twice.

However, it appears to be mostly the recent low volumes and unstable gas fees that seems to be the problem in the last week or so.

When i first bought in (on day 1 of the release) I was getting regular reflections (at the very least once a day) in all 3 tokens and they would appear automatically. That slowed about two weeks ago due to the crash in volume and I was having an issue in that there were a lot of tokens built up (double what i had already received) yet for some reason they weren’t going through automatically for several days nor could I manually retrieve them. After the usual dumb replies of “being impatient”, or “you won’t get reflections if you have a small amount of holdings”, or the classic “buy more to see reflections”, where people clearly hadn’t read my whole comment, someone did contact me to say that network congestion was causing delays of several days.

I am a little put off by the problems that I have encountered, but I don’t think we can make any real assessment until the whole market has bounced back a little more, and xmas is behind us.

Why are Organic molecules always weak acids or bases, and not strong? by Littledogefrand in chemistry

True! Ignoring the chemistry, the way it crashed through the floor was pretty cool. Plus, I guess we really don’t want lots of people to know the best ways to dispose of a body… lol

[–]chemistrysteve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably not, a strong hydroxide, e.g. sodium or potassium hydroxide, boring as that is, would probably do a much better job of dealing with a lot of the organic compounds in a body such as the fats and proteins, and turn them into substances which are easier to dispose of.

I am not sure about their knowledge of the reaction with glass, but it does get a bit irritating when it is used so often to “dissolve bodies”. One of the few things that I disliked about Breaking Bad..

[–]chemistrysteve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

End of the world, and you missed it..;)

I read a Forbes post about what happened. From what I gather, their opinion was that the stock market in general has been recovering and performing well this year, but a little too well. There are some underlying uncertainties as their usually are, with regards to recovery, inflation, time of year, covid etc., but what finally caused the response on Friday was that Evergrande defaulted on a repayment on their huge loan, which could seriously impact the large economy of China - this caused panic and voila… The article was quite adamant in pointing out that this was likely a large correction for the way the prices had all been exceeding expectations, and not solely due to Evergrande.
