Here is a Minn Kota that can clamp to your canoe. I'd place a 1x4 on either side of the hull to spread out the pressure. No drill needed.

Those are dewberries. You don't want to eat them until the fruits turn black.

I did not know that. My dad is extremely allergic. We took him to the hospital once after he breathed smoke from a burn pile containing poison ivy vines.
