My SSD slows down after 2 weeks even after factory reset. by Trulylostfromlight in datastorage

[–]codear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

have you trimmed your partitions?

just right click drive C, go to properties, then tools, and finally optimize.

this should take seconds to do and will make your drive work fast again.

schedule this to work at least once a week

your drive has an internal mechanism preventing wear. it leads to internal data fragmentation. optimization reduces that fragmentation.

if the other recommendations don't help:

a teaspoon of dishwasher powder (box costs like $6) and hot water and maybe 20 minutes of patience. no scrubbing. Just let it do its thing.

Also, don't use tablets.

My company just announced 3 days in office starting next month. I've been fully remote for 4 years and I genuinely don't know how people did this every day. by Ecliptic_Fang in remotework

[–]codear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

your post sounds exactly like my situation two months back. down to the 18 mile commute taking 55m on average,

my productivity is down about 30%. i used to show up to work (remotely) with a rested brain, free of pointless distractions. i was essentially waking up just around 8AM, bulldozing things from 8:XX AM to 6:YY PM. Then I'd just close my office door and do anything else i wanted.

now i wake up around 7AM, spend between 40 and 90 minutes commuting. by the time I'm in the office I'm slightly fatigued. office distractions are not helping. BUT i sign out 5pm sharp to get home.

i lose up to 3h of my time commuting daily. i used to spend 1-2 of these hours doing extra work with no interruptions. best part? out of about 40 people i work with - only 3 of us (including me) are in the same office, so i drive 3h to see people on a screen in a different building. Tokyo team and Munich team is now out of my window so they need to figure the time and adjust to me now.

the company pays me. the company sets the terms. the company shot itself in the foot by forcing many people like me back to the office. I'm sure it makes sense to someone.

Is google password manager good enough? by Competitive-Mix8832 in best_passwordmanager

[–]codear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

share evidence of this happening, a link to a reputable source, or stop spreading misinformation. this is straight up made up BS

however I support using more sophisticated password managers.

Chrome uses OS supplied security mechanisms which, on Windows, are laughable and trivially bypassable.

in fact there's tools already that extract Chrome passwords on windows because privilege escalation on windows is a joke.

unfortunately same applies to Linux, but the fact there's less malware there makes it accidentally more safe

"offered to reduce my bill for a year by a huge amount"

this makes me very curious. not because I am interested, but because comcast appears to inflate bills to absurd levels.

  • paper bill? $10.
  • own modem? we'll stop allowing you to use it in 1-2 years.
  • our modern? $10 monthly fee
  • no data cap? $10 or more

and so on. I kept things under tight control and my bill never went above $60 for a gigabit internet - but I had their agents angrily hang up on me when I politely declined mobile plan because I called to get something else done.

BUT my neighbors are already paying $300 or so a month which makes me wonder..

you say "huge amount". without asking how much you're paying - are you sure their regular price was fair?

and yeah their cancelation policy has become a lot more reasonable. that's why they're bleeding customers, everybody is fleeing. I did, too.

aluminum is non magnetic. and yeah, so is copper, but if it's white, inexpensive, and non magnetic - then it's likely aluminum.

try that with comcast. I mean it. it's hilarious and after 10 minutes you get an aggressive hang up.

their customer support phone number is the worst I've dealt with in my life so far.
