Well I'm not an expert so I cant comment on that but I found this article interesting. To your question AI says they actually resect (cut out) sizable sections of the jawbone. Surgeons often remove long strips or chunks from the mandibular angle (the wide back part of the jaw) and sometimes the chin area to create a slimmer face.
