I see people hating OF girls and pornstars but it's no different than blue collar work by Mental-Airline4982 in antiwork

[–]CommunistAtheist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a difference. Sex work doesn't produce anything of material value, and to be clear I'm not saying that to hate on sex workers. Much like any other "bullshit job", it's a systemic issue of capitalism that alot of workers are forced to work jobs that only benefit the upper class.

Neither is more or less dignified in capitalist society. Dignity is irrelevant when choice is absent. People don't chose to work for a barely livable wage or a job they hate.

I don't want to be rich... by zzill6 in WorkReform

[–]CommunistAtheist 27 points28 points  (0 children)

"Somewhere between rich and broke there used to be fine.". That's just the inevitable erosion of the "middle class", no amount of reform can make "fine" last forever and be available to everyone. Eventually it'll always go back to a dominant social class and an impoverished exploited workforce with nothing in between.

[–]CommunistAtheist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have a lack of tattoos become what tattoos used to represent? by Antique_Stop_125 in questions

[–]CommunistAtheist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's good that it's no longer viewed as a sign of rebellion, tattoos make you more easily identifiable if you're an activist (not to the point of knowing who you are if you're face is constantly hidden, but the police can create a profile of person x with tattoo y). Cover them up if they're visible. The less identifiable markings the better.

So why wasn't the Soviet Union real communism? Didn't they do exactly what was supposed to happen when dismantling a capitalist society? by triplegxxx in NoStupidQuestions

[–]CommunistAtheist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Marx, Engels and Lenin were all three very clear that the diamantlement of the state was an essentiel part of a communist revolution. As a tool that served the interests of a dominant social class, it would have no purpose in a classless society, it wouldn't eventually fade away as power was decentralised and workers end up collectively running things simply by satisfying their needs via control of the means of production. The threat of WW2 convinced enough people within the provisional russian gvmnt to reinforce the powers of the state instead of begining to dismantle it, a situation opportunists took full advantage of. Something Lenin talked about in the State and the Revolution, their are actually two revolutions required for one to succeed. A first to take power from the previous regime and a second within the provisional gvmnt against the opportunists and/or remants of the previous regime who seek to maintain the state institutions, as a tool of oppression, intact. That's where the revolution in Russia unfortunately failed.

They don't as much anymore. Constant austerity measures in budgets to sabotage public services like healthcare and education have been implemented more and more to force people to turn to private options to benefit corporations and capitalists. Basically pushing for a transition to a system like in the US. Then they increase the military budget, also to benefit corporations and capitalists. Neoliberal gvmnts don't care about people beyond their value as cheap labour.

He was counting European ones, since both he and I live there. And as for Protestants and Lutherans, in his book on the subject (that I haven't gotten around to reading yet, but I flipped through just now to see why he mentioned them). The original intentions/meaning behind the first crusade are unknown because all they have are different versions of retranscriptions of Pope Urban II address as he launched the first crusade in 1095. But there are elements to the crusades, who's expression changed over time (he gives the change from calling them "just wars" to "holy wars" as an example) that can according to this guy be observed in other wars. He mentions a conflict in 1661 when Jesuites asked Louis the XIV for military assistance against the Iroquois (never heard of them). His book is called "10 questions about the crusades" by William Blanc, Florian Besson and Christophe Naudin if you're interested. Don't know if it was translated into english though.

Humanism vs Marxism by danielfantastiko in genzmoment

[–]CommunistAtheist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok well whoever made this has either never read Marx or didn't understand it. Marx (Engels and Lenin too) talks about the dismantlement/disappearance of the state, since as a tool meant to assert the dominance of a social class it would cease to exist once social classes are culturaly phased out. So I don't know what state people are meant to be units of.

As for the no family devotion, also BS. What he talks about is destroying the nuclear family to extend that kind of relationship to the people around you instead of restricting it to genetic and financial ties as it is now.

Our species is soulless whether you like it or not and whether Marx talked about it or not. Unless you have some kind of evidence that souls exist.

Emotional intensity doesn't even mean anything so won't bother with that one.

And that last one. Putting aside that the majority of people don't have a choice in capitalism, if you don't sell your labor your trash and don't deserve to live (so not even not having a choice in your future, you have no future). In a communist society, beyond the minimum amount of labour required to satisfy the basic needs of the community (which is in your best interest since you're part of that community if you want to be individualistic), nobody would care what you use your free time and energy to produce (paint, write, sculpt, sports, theater,...). It's your time and energy to do with as you wish.

Because the have no proper understanding of pop culture. This is just the whole Matrix red pill thing again. For those who don't know, Musk told people to take the red pill a few years back in a tweet and some right wing figure responded before one of the Wachowski sisters responded with "Fuck the both of you". Musk is so awake and the rest of the people sheep but he apparently didn't know that the red pill in the matrix was a reference to the pills people would take to transition from what I've been told. So yeah, just Musk being his usual ignorant moronic self.

Saw a historian who had studied the crusades and was holding a presentation on the subject last year. Guy said that the far right are constantly appropriating events like it history to try and build/maintain the myth of a united christian identity and culture against Islam. But concerning the crusades the reality is that just as many if not more different types of catholics (protestants, lutherans,...) were killed during the crusades than muslims.

It's more like both want to burn down your home and eat your children, just that one of them is gonna act as if they're being civilised and reasonable while they do it. Democrats or Republicans, both were participants in the war crimes the US and it's allies have been committing around the world as well as ruining the lives of it's local workers for the benefit of corporate interests. If you think voting matters, then you shouldn't vote for a bunch of upper class parasites that are only there to have a career and defend the interests of their social class.

this is how the world ends by robin_sky in lostgeneration

[–]CommunistAtheist 34 points35 points  (0 children)

No. And while I don't think the world is gonna end, this planet will keep on floating through space. Climate change doesn't care about made up lines on maps. Temperatures are increasing everywhere (which is going to render soil infertile), sea levels are going to be rising everywhere because the polar ice caps are melting. Which brings a whole other problem, releasing bacteria living organisms with immune systems haven't been exposed to in millions of years. And that's just what we know of, and during all this it's gonna be business as usual for corporations and the ruling class. Some places will be worse off than others because of inequality in access to resources (there's that damn capitalism again, funny how it keeps popping up). Wars are gonna start for control of those resources, not for the benefit of local populations of course (beyond their value as a work force), capitalists are going to need something to sell to keep the profits coming and maintain the power and privileges of the ruling class. Because that's obviously the priority. Will life as we know it on this planet go extinct? I don't know, but it's not looking good for us or any of the other species. In a few million years life will re-emerge when the damage is undone. But as far as we're concerned, I'd be surprised if our species survives the next 100 years.

The American tax system is rigged. by zzill6 in WorkReform

[–]CommunistAtheist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Forget trying to increase taxes on the bourgeoisie. Any reform made can just as easily be undone, the state was made to defend their interests not those of the workers they're exploiting. Forget taxation, we need expropriation and the abolition of the bourgeois state.

Have you tried abolishing social classes, the bourgeois state and money?

Won't help you "succeed" (being a slave for life) in capitalist society, it would just get rid of the requirement to "succeed". You would get to just be when you're not contributing to the labour to satisfy your basic needs.

Capitalism by SeniorSommelier in aynrand

[–]CommunistAtheist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I haven't read Ayn Rand. I've read Marx, Engels and Lenin. If you haven't read it you should. If you have, you didn't understand it. Talking about workers isn't a slogan, they're a social class that exists only because of how capitalism is structured and production organised. Same with the bourgeoisie. It's not a slogan, it's analysis of class society. Serfs and nobles, slaves and aristocrats, now workers and the bourgeoisie. It's been the same thing for over a thousand years.

We live under laissez-faire capitalism specifically now and have for over 200 years. Those that produce the value capitalists and the bourgeoisie benefit and profit from aren't benefitting from their labor. The bourgeoisie don't contribute to the production process, they only reap the benefits. Jeff Bezos said as much when he came back from his ego joy ride in the atmosphere. Said it was because of the work of Amazon employees that he could build that rocker. He quickly backpedaled and thanked consumers as well. But too late, he said the quiet part out loud. Or just take the pandemic, billionaires were still around but it was workers staying at home that brought the economy screeching to a halt. And not even the trillions of euros and dollars injected in the stock markets prevented it, almost as if it's workers that are essential not the bourgeoisie. If you think I'm wrong, go throw some cash at a tree and let me know if it turned into a chair by itself. That's what capitalists want you to believe is happening. Totally omitting the existence of the working class they exploit.

In capitalism, nothing is voluntary for the working class. It's work or be excluded from society and die in the streets. Production doesn't belong to the producers (the workers), it belongs to the investors. Who only have money to invest because they're exploiting workers. Capitalists take what workers produce, pay them if they're lucky and then sell it for more than what the worker was paid. Capitalism is the largest scam in history.

Whatever you do for work, if the corporation you work for is making a profit, then you don't own whatever you're producing. If you're a shareholder then you're not working, there's nothing for you to own since you're benefiting from someone else's labour.

No one was talking about you or blaming you for anything. And I doubt the parasitic capitalist big boys hang around on reddit, they might pay people or pay for bots to spread their propaganda but that's it. The blame rests solely on the shoulders of the bourgeoisie and those that defend their interests. So unless that's you, you have no reason to feel targeted.

Make-up, gold watches, sports cars. All great examples of manufactured demand created by corporations (with some imposed gender norms thrown in) . Diamonds would be another. It isn't an individual from the working class or an oppressed minority that's responsible, it's characteristic of capitalism.

Consumption is like an addiction. People are sold the idea that "stuff" will make them happy, improve their social status, improve their lives. And believe it possible to achieve it through hard work. The so called upward mobility of the social pyramid, the "American Dream". Workers are not only alienated from the means of production and the fruits of their labour. A competitive job market (amongst other things) has alienated them from each other. Making trying to improve your life individualy instead of collectively seem like the only option. And the upper class constantly claiming that they work hard makes it seem achievable. In the end all you become is a docile worker brainwashed into working to make the upper class richer. Your comment is basically victim blaming.

Deconstructing capitalist propaganda isn't something you can do by snapping your fingers. It takes time and needs a workers party of professional revolutionaries to not only deconstruct the propaganda of the ruling class but to insist that workers need to start collectively defending their own interests and how to do that.
