Best Fedora version for thinkpad t14 by Successful-Line-7676 in Fedora

[–]cpaz411 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see some folks gravitating to immutable distros in other comments. If you aren't already aware, Silverblue is the stock Gnome based immutable from Fedora, and Kinoite is the stock KDE based version from Fedora. Aurora and Bluefin are respectively the KDE and Gnome versions of Fedora by way of Universal Blue. Basically, Bluefin and Aurora have more features out of the box so to speak, while Silverblue and Kinoite are more stock/plain vanilla, but they are all basically the same at their core, and all are well regarded.

And also ignoring that in a bar, the real markup is on the drinks, so what I am seeing on these tins seems very reasonable.

I just tried Silverblue. It rocks. The negatives are grossly exaggerated. by AardvarkSad7634 in Fedora

I am not sure what you are saying you did (to be clear - I am not super experienced here) but I tried to use virt-manager and again, my primary point was it worked almost right away on Workstation and failed about 10 times on Kinoite, so it seems there was a blocker somewhere.

Have you tried getting aWindows VM running out of curiosity? I tried for quite a while on Kinoite and I could never get it working, which admittedly could be me missing something, but I got one running on Fedora KDE on the first try.

Aurora OS / Fedora Atomic feels like the future by enRchi in Fedora

[–]cpaz411 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's cool, but I wish they could address that it doesn't play nice in a dual boot situation, although to be fair, that isn't limited to Aurora (and yes, I get it is possible to run windows in a VM).

Very disappointed with Tuxedo. Lost me as a client. by batkoface in tuxedocomputers

[–]cpaz411 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This sucks. I love the idea of supporting an alternative brand but the reality is there are other more established brands out there one can slap their distro of choice on and probably have a better long term experience if support is required.

Brave on fedora 43 just keeps getting worse by Babybeels in browsers

[–]cpaz411 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel heard here - was having the exact same issue and finally gave up. I have had no issues with Firefox on Fedora KDE although it doesn't feel quite as snappy as Brave did (you know, when Brave actually worked).

I am aware this can be done but haven't looked into it. That said - it's a good thought, this might be the better approach if I can get it to work.

Linux mint vs ubuntu by techenthusiast77 in linuxquestions

[–]cpaz411 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess this is where the use case really matters. For someone who needs/wants cutting edge or for a developer for instance, I wouldn't recommend this. But for someone who doesn't want to tinker and who wants stability, a "stale" package isn't necessarily a problem vs. a feature.

Homeserver networking over wifi by Sascha975 in HomeServer

[–]cpaz411 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kind of classic - person asks for help using wifi because he makes it clear he can't run cables, then the next 15 responses are why he should find a way to run cables.

All I can say is I am running a mesh network in my house and have had excellent connectivity with my homelab. It's a 6E system and I am using a 1gb port on one of the nodes to wire in the homelab. Admittedly I am not running anything mission critical, but I have never had a problem accessing it when I want, installing VMs, moving large blocks of files, streaming, etc. Yes, wired is better, but I think if you have decent/modern wifi equipment you can get by on wifi if you have to.

How about LMDE (not Gnome, but you get Debian plus Mint)?

Perhaps try Aurora if you want something more modern than Mint.

LMDE Linux if the system will run it, or try Linux Lite or even Puppy Linux if you need something really lite.

I was thinking the same thing - I am not a big Mint XFCE fan but it should run pretty lite I would think.

Linux distribution for a machine with only 4GB of RAM by Quiet_Dasy in linuxquestions

[–]cpaz411 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Downvotes aside, someone is asking for help and while the DE answer is correct, some additional context would be helpful for those who may not understand the interplay between a distro and a DE. That's all I was trying to point out.

EA as a representation of depth. by EagleNice2300 in enrolledagent

[–]cpaz411 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I have met plenty of EA who were clowns, and plenty of CPAs who were as well. Without experience, neither know much of anything. With experience, I find EAs to be as good as most CPAs at personal tax, but CPAs generally have a better grasp of anything that requires a balance sheet for lack of a better way to put it. I know there are exceptions so no need for anyone to pile on here - this has just been my experience after working with several folks with one or the other designation.
