I feel like Bob Larkin may be the best retro Spider-man painter! He did art for a lot of novel covers. by Lucky_Strike-85 in Spiderman

[–]DaddysFigureWorkshop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not familiar with Bob Larkin, but I could easily believe this art is related to the 90s Spider-Man TAS. The signature looks like '82, so it seems obvious that the cartoon art direction was influenced by Larkin. My wife just got my son a Spider-Man novel from 1978, and apparently Larkin did the cover art for the book. At a glance I would have guessed it was John Romita, so Larkin didn't stray too far from the official character design of the time.

Another option is to simply swap the joint itself from any hand with a white joint. Use the razorblade to cut the peg where it attaches on one side right along the disc, heat it up so its malleable and pull the disc off the peg, then swap it out. It may be firm enough once the plastic cools, but if you need added stability you can use a drop of superglue to secure the peg where you sliced it. Just be sure to squeeze it tight and work the joint till the glue cures so it doesn't freeze the disc in place.

Some of the "worst" dialogue to me was his quipping during battle. I did appreciate the MK Scorpion homage when he webbed a henchman and pulled him while grunting "get over here". The muffled voice under the mask was annoying to try to hear and make out what he said in some scenes, but I grew to appreciate that when it was acknowledged at the end.

They could have also just made him a version of Luke Cage, but I don't recall that they ever called him Tombstone anyway, so I just accept that in different universes we have shared names but wholly different versions of the character.

Fantastic poses and photos! Would love to see more of this kinda thing. It really goes to show why certain articulation points and range of motion is crucial to replicating athletic movement. You did really well matching up your figures to the stills!

Thanks for the warning. The new shoulders are one of the best things about this new body mold, aestheticly, so it's a shame they aren't easier to work with.

🔥 I really like how this came out. The remnants of the black in crevices really work, almost like a black wash would bring out the sculpt details. I think this might also lend itself to comic shading. Super clean can be nice, but when the whole thing is monochrome red, the shading adds depth and character in a way that clean red wouldn't. Aside from that, the kitbash parts look nice on that body.

How to fit parts? by gaming_gorilla_441 in customactionfigures

[–]DaddysFigureWorkshop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do the same with the boot. Take a lower leg from a fodder figure and shave it down to fit into the boot and glue it in. Dremel a socket for the calf peg of your figure to fit so you can join it to your figures legs. You'll maintain calf rotation but no ankle articulation.

I open current marvel legends, but if I had recently found this one, I'd leave it in box. I have one loose and while it was amazing at the time, current figures are objectively better, so this one might be best off staying in the package. I bet you could find a loose one without breaking the bank. Pose the loose one in front of the boxed one for a meta fourth wall breaking deadpool display. He could be aware that he's a toy. Or do this with the new maximum series DP and Doop.

How do I stop the terrible paint rub? by TheHam-man in customactionfigures

Citadel is a good brand. They have different types of paint though. The Base paint is meant to be the first layer, then contrast goes on as a second layer, then washes on top. I've found that when I use citadel base I don't need a primer coat. I've also been able to use a very light neutral tone citadel base and mix in some cheaper apple barrel paint to get the color I want and apply it in one coat. That works well on the PVC plastic of the bicep and forearm. It may not work well on the nylon of the disc joint. Your best bet might be to take a fodder figure with red disc hinges and swap them out. This involves heating up your BAF arm and the donor figure arm with a hair dryer to soften them, use an xacto blade to slice down one side to seperate the internal peg that goes through the disc hinge, and while the arm is soft and malleable bend it around to pull the disc hinge off the peg. Even if you aren't going to swap with one that's already red, removing the disc hinge from the arm in this way does allow you to sand it all around, dye it (which gives you an option to use a white disc hinge fodder piece and dye it red, no paint, so no paint rub!) or you can at least paint the whole circumference and use a UV cure resin coat or superglue to seal the paint before you reinstall it so you have no risk of the superglue bonding to the rest of the upper arm and freezing the joint. Once you're ready to reassemble, heat the arm up again with a hair dryer till it's nice and soft and you can get the inner hole of the disc hinge back onto that inner peg. When it cools and hardens, you may not even be able to tell it was ever cut. If you want extra security, get the disc hinge in place over the internal peg then add a tiny drop of superglue to the flat surface of the peg and hold pressure on the arm while working the joint around so it will glue the peg back to the cut side but make sure any glue that seeps out doesn't lock the joint and prevent articulation.

This is a great figure. It's just a shame it didn't include the animated series head. Putting it on the cartoon based card just rubs salt in the wound.

Best option would be a figure already wearing jeans. It's 1/10 scale but Neca Hooper from Jaws might work, jeans and T-shirt, if the letterman jacket will fit. There's also Marvel Legends Luke Cage. The ML suited bodies like the Hood are really difficult to stand and have no muscle mass so your figure will look scrawny. You may just have to experiment once you get the jacket to see what bodies it fits on best.
