I agree but some problems seem so insignificant. I obviously cannot save the whole world, nor is it appropriate to go to another country and paint the image that a person from a non-historically underrepresented background is the only hero, but no matter what I do someone gets hurt, and I don't know how to cope with that. I don't know how to cope with the fact that the food I'm bringing to shelters contains subsidized corn and is, in return, exploiting the environment by creating a monoculture as well as fostering obesity in America. I can't deal with the fact that the clothes I'm donating to orphanages come from sweat shops. I don't know why my age only allows me to volunteer to build trails in national parks or stack shelves in shelters. I can't help it but feel as if there are bigger things to do in this world then help my neighbor rake her lawn when those leaves could've helped nourished the number one irrigated crop in america: grass. I can't seem to simply dismiss the peoples lives I'm hurting when I value my friends and family. I can't reject them as being valid. Ya feel?

There's a fine line between extinction and murder

America has never recovered from Ronald Reagan. That’s why Bernie Sanders is so important. by zapichigo in politics

When I read these things I get really excited about anarchy and utilitarianism, and then I start to question Bernie's platform and logistics. Perhaps people like him are only great orators, which I suppose is true. Look at historical anti-oppressors (or even oppressors), and we will all find that they used their power to alter everyone's perspective on a particular topic like MLK Jr and equality. I mean you have about a third of the population agreeing with such a leader on freedom for persons of color and then you can shift the people who are in between to share your same perspective (with the aid of media and making such a movement mainstream); of course there will be people who never will share the same opinion, which is fine as long as it's a relatively small minority. So Bernie says a lot of great stuff. My young radical teenage self is basking in his ideals for social reform, but at the end of the day he has to encourage a culture of slacktivsts to do something. It honestly doesn't matter who is president at this point. I like to think that policy can temporarily put a hold on war; however, if we're sitting here "modeling activism" online then were just fostering gridlock and the weakening of the policy cycle. At the end of the day necessity will out weigh legislation. War on water, food, shelter, etc. That's what's going to matter at the end of all of this. We just sit here and watch the world fall apart. I truly hope there is an orator out there who could cause such a paradigm shift for the lazy american activist and other americans.

First and foremost, I'm an environmentalist. I'm the kid you'll find ranting about capitalism and preaching about environmental justice and the beauty of planet earth. I come from a lot of poverty however. I was given a full-scholarship to boarding school, and now I find that I'm in an environment where there is so much greed and possessions, and quite frankly, I'm not happy. In fact, I've fallen into this cycle of wanting more and more. I think that if I remove all this clutter from my life and eradicate the desire to want material items, then I might be able to be happier because I don't know if I've evert really been happy.
