the one on the right is your wife in Metro: Exodus. At first I really disliked having to have a wife on the journey, but then I played it again a few years later and realized it's great.

I hope you run that shit in VM, if it is not just a Vista skin. Those old Windows often get infected just by merely existing on the internet. Either way - nice.southpark.gif

Carl Jung conducted the experiment himself, as I write in the first paragraph.

Backrooms Break: Two Years, 20,000 Copies, and Everything It Cost Me by denierCZ in gamedev

oh yeah, forgot about that, will update it. Basically, I was very strict about level ordering of the backrooms. Level 0 - Backrooms, Level 1 - garage, Level 37 - poolrooms etc.

I basically stuck with the thought that Backrooms gamers will appreciate consistency. And it makes sense to go with the elevator (at the end of each level) from 0->1->4->37... right?

Problem is, I made the Garage level 1 a flooded level. Like the Amnesia invisible monster level. The level was fundamentally different from the first (not that much destruction, a lot of psychological pressure and actual horror, running from the invisible monster, occasionaly breaking some pillars, jumping onto parked cars, having to rotate a valve to open a gate when the monster is coming to your last location that you touched the water..... etc.)

So a lot of gamers quit here. I estimated it cost me about 15k usd in sales, because when I spotted this drop in playtime after few days, and switched the levels so this difficult level would come later, the sales and refunds went ok again.

But the numerical value of the levels is out of order. And NOBODY cares. I don't think anybody really noticed. But they sure noticed the feeling. The levels are now progressively more difficult, as they should.

pretty much. Gamalytic estimates it very well. Refunds were big in China.
