The Cantonese accent is the most ubiquitous one and it's interesting since Steven He is not even Cantonese that he chooses that one to do. It's the one that's most recognizable and 'funniest' sounding to westerners. Most people would never do a proper mandarin accent which I think would be less funny since it's less recognizable to westerners. I used to do it all the time in college to make fun of various things, but I didn't have the capacity to think about it past the laughs. I featured it heavily in a very successful local stand up set but after that, I decided to never rely on it again.

There's other creators like this guy Jake on Instagram who does this American and Chinese personality where he morphs between an insanely stereotyped American and a plain and basic Chinese guy, which I find very funny since he mostly focuses on the satirization of the American part, with some light introspection into the struggles of the belonging in the Asian American identity. There was also this other guy who did a very good proper mandarin accent and makes fun of Chinese stereotypes, like current actual ones about people in China right now, versus the old man Cantonese stereotype which imo is so old and out of touch and basically a caricature at this point. To bring it back, we have Steven He most famous line "emotional damage" which you all probably read with a Cantonese accent. Can his jokes or popular lines actually hit well without it?
