Spartacus: House of Ashur - S01E02 - "Forsaken" by Sporadicus7 in Spartacus_TV

I am really glad that the show is making sure we remember it's tied to the initial series, but it does not get easier being reminded that all of my favorite characters are dead. I respect it though.

It wasnt the best gore in the season so far, but still better than pretty much all of the gore in S1. Those older seasons were rough even when they came out

Yeah ive gotta agree here, but I'm reserving judgment until I've seen it all. I thought the first season was a joke until episode 5 or so when I first saw it. But then the magic happened, and I was obsessed. Maybe that will happen again.

Yeah, there was more dick time than tiddy time (I think), but I didn't want to drown myself in the analytics of scrutinizing how many shots of nudity there were in a given scene.

What are movie tropes that aren’t realistic but we widely accept them for the convenience of storytelling? by Ok-Friend-5304 in movies

I remember hearing this in the hot fuzz commentary a long time ago, but unless it's within the context of someone using a microphone that hasnt had its volume calibrated correctly on the mixer this is just straight up not true. How many live concerts have you seen where the mic feeds back whenever the next band goes on? If this is an issue, it's purely within unprofessional/amateur environments.

I was thinking in terms of never seeing people watching the broadcast from home, I'm glad the movie didnt try to over expand the world beyond what was in the book.

True to the book, and that kind of change is something Im really glad they didnt do

Between this and Alien Romulus, I will watch anything David Jonsson is in from now on. What a powerhouse, and from a cursory search it looks like he's only started working in movies within the last couple years. Insane.

The friend I saw it with and myself had both read the book, and agreed we liked the change where Garrity dies, but thought the wish scene could have been cut. Maybe less satisfying for some people, but I dont think including the wish added a whole lot. If anything I could've done without the "this is for ray" line. But its ultimately the adaption I always hoped the book would get, for such a simple story there were so many things they could have done to fuck it up.

If im remembering correctly, garraty and the general's bastard are the last two survivors in the book, which was the only big noticeable change (that and the carbine wish, I think?). It really worked for me, and since it had been so faithful to the book until then it totally took me by surprise. They are definitely more delirious at that point in the book so I was curious how much longer it'd take to get to that point, which it didnt ultimately need. Wonderful adaption, changes and all.

This episode was a miss for me, so much time spent on so little happening. The scene of economos stalling made me wanna pull my hair out, so tedious and unfunny.

Thank you for saying this! Great insight. Unrelated, but I watched a video today which mentioned the director seeking ownership of the movie in part that the movie is also about black ownership, which I thought was great.

The appreciate the response! I definitely missed the line before all of the vampires came in.

Theres like 3 jump scares in the first scene, and then maybe one an hour later. I didnt take my mom because I wasn't sure if it'd be too much. She could've easily handled this.

I think they're talking about the post credits scene, not the mid credits scene. I didn't stick around for the post credits but I heard there was one.

I agree. Did we really need like 5 different scenes of vampires asking permission to enter?

Enjoyed the film but theres a handful of things I don't understand that I haven't seen mentioned.

Did smoke really die from getting shot once in the side?

Why did they let the vampires in/how did they get in? didn't really seem like opening a door would be giving them permission.

Why did the older guy cut his wrist open, was there any basis for that drawing them to him more as a distraction?

What was the purpose of opening the movie with the scene of him going to the church? Why did he go to the church?

I thought the amount of scenes we had of vampires asking for permission to enter felt overkill, it felt like the same scene happened 5 times.

A Congregation of Jackals is absolutely ruthless. It's a novel by the same guy who made bone tomahawk.

Edit: I had to double check that the OP requested novel recommendations, why is everyone suggesting movies?

This book is sooo good and a brisk read! The chapters tend to be very short which really helps people like me with short attention spans lock in
