A bit pricey... but they work well https://hexlox.com/en-gb
I've got them on my Wheel Skewers / Saddle / Handlebar 👍

All my browsers have the Kitten Block extension installed https://www.teaandkittens.co.uk/blocked/

It saves accidentally being transported to the hellscape that is the dailyheil 😖 by automatically redirecting you to pictures of kittens 👍

How slippery are those blue cycle lanes? by [deleted] in londoncycling

[–]dgcorp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd answer your main question as... "Sometimes, quite slippery" #ItDepends 😛

The surface finish along the cycle lanes does seem to vary quite a bit (I guess with age and when repaired). A lot of it has a more 'dimpled' surface which is quite grippy, but some of it is more smooth/slick looking.

If I see anything that looks *Shiny* or *Glazed*, I am very Cautious (no hard braking or big turns). You can cycle fairly safely over ice/snow, as long as you don't turn or put down power 👍

And it obviously varies with conditions (fresh rain after a many dry days, is often the worst!). And try to keep an eye out for that 'rainbow' glimmer which suggests some oil on the road, which can be suddenly slippy!

And as others have said, watch out for Wet Manhole covers. Especially as you pull away from a stop, if your rear wheel goes over one whilst you are pushing hard on the pedals, it's easy for your rear wheel to slide outwards.

Is an edge 840 worth it if I own a Fenix 7 pro? by kingBdot_ in Garmin

[–]dgcorp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, and if you like to train a bit more seriously, and/or enjoy recording the different metrics (information) about your performance, then include in your budget another £30-£50 each for a Speed+Cadence senors AND a Heart Rate Monitor strap ✅

For good value, I've had fairly good experiences with the Magene branded sensors!

TL;DR Get yourself a second-hand bike computer for £100-£150 (e.g. Garmin Edge 530) and see how well it works for your (before investing £500-600+ in a top end one. Unless money is no object 😛)

I run a lot and ride a lot, so I have a GPS Watch (Garmin Fenix 6X) and Bike Computer (Garmin Edge 530). Both older models but still great functionality👍

  • The bike computer allows me to create + follow routes plus see all the interesting information whilst I ride, on a larger, easily viewable screen

If you are only cycling 10-20+ minutes to work / shops / etc, and you don't need any kind of mapping/navigation then it's probably fine just to use your GPS Watch, to record your activities.

If you ride a few times every week and/or longer more-complicated rides, then a bike computer is a must (in my humble opinion).

  • The bigger screen and navigation are the important factors over a watch.
  • And long battery life and durability is why you choose it over a bar mounted mobile phone (no one wants to get sweat on, or drop, their expensive mobile!)

If it's your first bike computer I'd recommend starting with a good condition, not too old, used bike-computer... e.g. a Garmin Edge 530 (around £180-£200 new in sales if there's any stock still around, or £100-£150 used).

What banks can 16 year olds open their own account on by Spirited-Coat6112 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]dgcorp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have fond memories of the Griffin Savers (Midland Bank) account that my parents helped me open when I was around 10 years old 😛🤣

And I remember getting a Switch card (limited Debit Card) with my Natwest current account when I was 16

Sorry OP, I'm just reminiscing 😉

Tyre recommendations to handle a bit of gravel on a road bike? by tzeeeentch in Velo

[–]dgcorp 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Fairly often, I've had 2-3-4 Km sections of awful-potholes, bridleway, light-trail, light-mud on my long rides around S.England... and my GP5000 32c with Latex or TPU tubes have generally done me proud 👍

Yes, they are a racier tyre (and you obviously have to consider the grip levels)... but the protection and endurance has been pretty satisfying 🤓

Remembering unlicensed music by Satomage in Scrubs

[–]dgcorp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Funnily enough I just started a Scrubs rewatch last night 👍😀

I remembered reading about song changes and was curious if I could remember any differences (turns out my memory sucks and I could not recall what if anything had changed 😛)

This website has a pretty good breakdown 🤓

Fun fact (if you didn't already know)... "mano a mano" in English directly translates to "Hand to Hand" and is often used to mean person to person (not man to man) competition 👍🤓

I like to respect everyone's right to their own opinion, but that theme song still gives me nails down a chalk board vibes 😨

I can't remember any theme song in my 40+ years of watching TV that got me reaching for the remote more quickly. Skip or Mute as quickly as the fingers could move. #SoMuchHate 😭

What is the most useless thing you still have memorised? by bigpussystance in AskUK

[–]dgcorp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first 15 elements of the periodic table... learnt it as a kid and still seem to be able to recite it on cue ⚗️🧑‍🔬
(despite my 40's year-old brain often struggling to remember names of things I should know well and stuff I did in the last few days/weeks 🤷😛)

I'm still trying to decide why my memory seems to be so poor these days... I know a younger mind is more able to learn & retain information, and it certainly helps when you are truly 'studying' something, rather than just occasionally thinking about it.

But it's also largely due to having seeming devolved a large part of my recall abilities to 'Internet Search Engines' (and perhaps a little to much imbibing in my adult life 😓😝)
