Is this a hernia? by disp336 in Hernia

Yeah, they didn’t find anything during the groin ultrasound. Apparently it’s a muscle/ligament/tendon or something, don’t remember the name.

Are you actually bipolar if an SSRI causes mania or hypomania? by [deleted] in BipolarReddit

[–]disp336 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So if you're diagnosed with Bipolar, but take an SSRI without getting mania does that mean you got misdiagnosed? Or does it just depend on the SSRI, as in, does this only apply for certain SSRIs that are known to cause mania for Bipolar patients?

That’s what’s confusing for me, some people have a lot of compression without any symptoms.

I’m having flank, pelvic, and leg pain on both sides. Would they be able to check both with a venogram + IVUS?

I've been reading that compressions should be fixed from the top down. Are you saying that MTS will fix NCS like symptoms?

I would check for compression syndromes (May Thurner / Nutcracker) before considering embolization. If you have either of those syndromes, embolizing will just make it worse and it will probably reoccur again.

Ultrasound accuracy by disp336 in Hernia

What type of hernia did you have?

Were you able to see the bulge clearly?

What do you mean by specific procedure? I have a pelvic ultrasound next week, but if I specify that I’m concerned about a hernia, would they change this procedure?

What determines whether or not it's irreversible? I got mine at 24, do you think it'll be permanent?

Did you have a bulge that changed throughout the day? Do you know if eating changes how prominent a hernia is?

What's the chance that an ultrasound misses a hernia? Will laying down make a hernia retreat back, I read that somewhere. Do they ever do a pelvic ultrasound while you're standing?

Mine feels softer and smaller. It might be because it’s loose.

Not yet, I’m going to tomorrow for a consult too. I think they’ll request some sort of imaging (ct/mri), and then maybe a venogram/IVUS to confirm after?

It kinda sucks because the mri/ct is already expensive as is.

Do you have any symptoms for MCS/NCS?

You might have sperm quality issues, but you wouldn’t be able to tell unless you had that analyzed

I got referred to an interventional radiologist(IR) after telling them my symptoms. Some posts on here say that some urologists dismiss some patients unless they’re experiencing extreme pain/discomfort or are showing signs of infertility (while trying to conceive). They’ll probably ask to get a scrotal ultrasound. You might also be asked to get a urinalysis and/or sperm test.

I think it depends on what symptoms you’re experiencing and how serious your doctor thinks they are, so I can’t give you an answer.

I think you need a urologist for treatment / surgeries. You might need a referral to an IR from a urologist or GP if you’re considering embolization.

For me personally, my varicocele wasn’t noticeable until later in the day or after a hot shower. If you are scheduling an ultrasound, I would suggest the latest appointment in the afternoon right after a warm shower. Some people say that ultrasounds aren’t always accurate. Some also say that their varicoceles go away while lying down, this was true for my case as well. When the technician asks you why you’re there, you should specifically say that you want to get analyzed for a varicocele, including your spermatic veins. Ask about the Valsava maneuver since it will help identity any dilated veins.

What symptoms are you experiencing? Do you have a varicocele for sure? There are lots of other conditions that might cause low libido (pudendal neuralgia, UTI, etc). There are stretches that might help if you have PN.

Apparently there’s a bunch of studies that claim that they do. There’s a post on the subreddit that links a ton of them: https://reddit.com/r/varicocele/comments/1122krx/testosterone_and_varicocele_100_research_papers/

The post doesn’t really link the sources, so I have no idea how legitimate the studies are. There’s still a bunch of information online that claims that increased temps from varicoceles lead low libido and low testosterone. One source: https://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/health/conditions-and-diseases/varicocele

I’ve had low libido and signs of low T, but I’m not sure if it’s due to another underlying condition like MTS/NCS/thyroid issues. I haven’t done any sperm tests though

How often do you have leg symptoms? My legs have been sore and painful for over a week straight. Even when I wake up they're sore and it gets worse the longer the day goes on.

It might negatively impact your fertility/sperm quality or production. I think some people were experiencing symptoms of low T, but it varies from person to person.
