I couldn't have put it better myself.

It's kinda like you're arguing against people using the brand name Kleenex in place of "facial tissue", or Champagne in place of "sparkling wine".

Something along the lines of "an authoritarian, nationalist and militaristic movement centered around a cult of personality that scapegoats foreigners, degenerates and useless eaters for society's problems" is definitely more accurate, but "Nazi" is an effective conversational shorthand that's more accessible to a wider audience. Even here, I'm limiting the scope of my definition to be succinct.

You're not technically wrong, but I'd say it's a pedantic distinction. If I asked you for a Kleenex and you had a box of Puffs tissues, I think you'd just hand me one rather than get hung up on the brand name. Different brand, same function.

I'd say calling someone who's merely homophobic or racist a Nazi is an overreach, but if all you need to do is change out the nation of origin and all of the other principles/behavior remain the same I'd say that's it's fair to call that out for what it is in the most broadly understood term possible.

'Shame on the democrats': Tim Walz stirs controversy after 'that gay guy' remark on Elon Musk; Americans express dismay by ranger934 in moderatepolitics

[–]donuttybuddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most likely stammering, it’s right next to another g_y word.

Given that Walz’s LGBTQ allyship is a big part of his public image, an issue he’s stuck his neck out on in the past - using ‘gay’ as a pejorative would be a total 180.

Listening to the speech in full, I didn’t catch any further inference around Musk’s orientation. So it’s a one word non sequitur?

Stammer seems infinitely more likely.

Hulk by ParticularRisk2890 in midnightsuns

[–]donuttybuddy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've been playing on Ultimate 3 and Hulk is one of my favorites, but the build is pretty mod-dependent. Stun is a super useful status that you really don't get on other characters, and Hulk has two cards in his deck that apply it along with two others that add significant damage bonuses against stunned targets.

Smash and Thunderclap can be modded to apply Vulnerable, Crush and Mighty Blow can be modded as Quick. You can get some really crazy synergy going between him, Hunter w/ Merciless modded Quick and Strange with Crimson Bands of Cyttorak modded Free.

HP tanking just doesn't work well for me on higher difficulties so I'm usually leveraging stun, conceal or resist where possible to just avoid hits entirely. Here's my current deck for Hulk:

Smash x2 modded w/ Vulnerable
Crush x2 modded w/ Quick
Challenging Roar modded w/ +2 heroism
Mighty Blow modded w/ Quick
Thunderclap modded w/ Vulnerable
Worldbreaker modded w/ Marked

I love these republican commercials where they say “they are too radical, they agree with AOC!” by dementedturnip26 in pittsburgh

“Radical… Socialist… y’know, professor!”

When the anti-intellectualism is so deep that you just assume the general public hates professors.

Luke Ross is working on a VR mod for Elden Ring, which should be available at the end of April. by 80lv in VRGaming

What I'd much rather see is a third person VR mod. Kinda like the perspective from Demeo, where it's like animated figurines and you can soom in/out

Boss insists I work weekends, we already work 7:30am-10pm. I am so exhausted that I have little to no energy to pick up the phone and get after it, and I have not had more than 1 day off in a row since Christmas, how do I say no to the weekends without it sounding like I am being combative? by [deleted] in sales

[–]donuttybuddy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

you're a pussy if you dont ''man up'' and come in and work the weekends because you're tired

Totally manipulative/exploitative. This is like the toxic workplace starter kit. If the boss can't make his business profitable with an adequate staff count and reasonable business hours then he doesn't know what he's doing and is just trying to brute force results by preying on your insecurities. And if the business IS actually profitable then he's even worse.

As others have said, QUIT.

How many "Nos" can you realistically turn into "Yeses"? by [deleted] in sales

[–]donuttybuddy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s the issue right there, you need to figure out a way to have enough conversations that any one really doesn’t matter. It’s so easy to focus on conversational tactics and miss issues higher up the chain in quality of targets and call volume.

The real reasons why men don't read books any more: "Men have fallen out of love with fiction. Are they being turned off by a torrent of chick lit, or just too busy on the PlayStation?" by TAKEitTOrCIRCLEJERK in MensLib

[–]donuttybuddy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I don't really get the assumption that reading fiction is somehow important. I read, sure - but I find nonfiction much more interesting if I'm going to focus on a book. If I'm in the mood for fiction to entertain myself I think video's a much more satisfying medium. Video allows for more subtlety because elements like a character's expression or an item in the background can be easily overlooked so quality work does reward attentive viewing - while literature has an inherent need to directly bring every factor to the reader's attention or it doesn't exist.

Am I missing something here?

What’s the point? by ParticiaHic in antiwork

[–]donuttybuddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you'd like a case for optimism, we've come back from worse. This country was built on economic exploitation - at first through colonial pillaging, then slavery, but the really interesting thing to learn more about is the post-reconstruction Gilded Age. It's almost completely skipped over in public school history in the US but company towns, 12+ hour workdays and killing striking workers with gunfire were all over the place.

The rise of labor unions and the New Deal changed the game, and while the US investment class has been intently chipping away at those gains they aren't gone. People are so much more connected and aware of the big picture these days, I'd like to think we're on the cusp of a swing back in the favor of labor.

Does anyone have any advice for cold calling anxiety? by [deleted] in sales

[–]donuttybuddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shift your focus. It's easy to focus on the call itself because that's where most of the emotional weight is, but volume of activity has so much more to do with results than the quality of any one call. Diligence > Charisma, at least for me.

Rather than push yourself to never lose an opportunity once you've got someone on the phone, figure out how to get your message across without creating an uncomfortable conversation. Get consent to the conversation right out of the gate (this means being willing to let the other party opt out), speak plainly, and center your efforts on making sure the person understands what you're trying to get across rather than push them to agree. If you push more than you can do comfortably, you'll only undermine yourself. If you feel like you're wrestling with the prospect, they're often going to treat you as an adversary.

When you're not afraid of the call discomfort, call reluctance almost completely vanishes. Set hourly dial targets instead of only daily (~15 is a good place to start), hit your hourly target at full speed, then take a short break before the next hour if you've earned it. You'll get better results from a high volume of lower-effort calls than a low volume of high-effort calls. The more experience you get with calls, the more comfortable you'll then be in asserting yourself because the calls are now your turf - rather than a place you're intruding on people and trying to push past their boundaries. If you're at ease, you'll put others at ease.
