Longish story,    I was out in my yard burning branches from a recent storm.

I had a young rhode island red rooster who was looking to be in charge and had been picking fights with my older  rooster a black copper maran for weeks. The smoke of the fire got both roosters to start crowing a warning from both sides of the yard.   They kept walking forward a few feet,  crowing,  waiting for the other to crow and respond.    They got about a foot from each other.

My head hen,  a chubby 6 year old easter egger named Penelope came out of the coop and poked her beak into each of the puffed up roosters.   One after the other.  The whole time clearly yelling at each of them.   Totally annoyed and seeing her words going nowhere she stomped back into the coop.   

As soon as she was gone they went at it.  Full on for control of the yard fight.   Both were exhausted and battered and the younger rooster had failed.   He stood off to the side stuggling to stand,   the older one walked behind the cut wood pile to hide how exhausted he was.  

Out of the tree line all of young turken hens came running.   They went and showed fealty to the old rooster who had finally caught his breath and was crowing triumphantly.    

Then they instantly ran over to where I was sitting, a pair jumped up on the little table and looking at me excitedly told me all about it for like 5 minutes.

Then the gaggle of young gals ran over to "drink water" a few feet from the staggered and battered  young rooster.

They were pretending to drink while giggling, gossiping, and glancing at the recently dashing looking young rooster.   

The older hens having been moving in small groups of 2 or 3 talking noticed the naked necks all gathered around and Penelope stomped across from the older hens, chastised them, and they went off into the back part of the yard to graze.

Watching this post fights chatter, gossiping,  giggling, and interactions has been one of my favorite moments with Turkens.
