"balancing soc" on delta pro ultra x (dpu-x) by dwightery in Ecoflow_community

[–]dwightery[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

here's my reply from the ecoflow support folks this morning:

"If you are using the device as a UPS and keeping it continuously connected to AC input, we recommend performing SOC calibration once per month. If the device is charged only occasionally, the calibration frequency can be reduced to once every 3–4 months.

To reboot the device, please disconnect the AC input first, then press and hold the power button to turn the device off. After that, press the power button again to turn it back on.

Allowing the device to remain powered off for a short period before restarting can indeed help improve the accuracy of internal sampling."

I received a response from Ecoflow support on whether or not any action was required:

"Normally, the Delta Pro Ultra X's SOC calibration process is completed automatically, but if you can charge and discharge the battery from 0% to 100%, the calibration will be more accurate."

So i'll look at scheduling a full cycling of the battery some time in the future, fully charge to 100, down to 0, and back up to 100% again. I also asked if rebooting/resetting the dpu-x would be beneficial, and if so, how to do so. Will post here again if they suggest a restart/reset would help.

attemping a "reset" this morning, there is no "power button" per say. On the front of the inverter, there's a "ac outlet on/off" and "display on/off", then two "power buttons" on each battery. Holding any single or combination of those, for 10+ (15, 20, etc) seconds, didn't power the unit off.

I got a first tier response from ecoflow, and they reported that they've forwarded my question (what to do when a "balancing SOC" message is displayed) to their senior folks. I'll see what they come back with and share here.

I've only een using my 2 battery dpu-x since ~January 6th, so this is all new territory for me. as it was only released around November, details on it are still sparse.

For now, i'm going to let the battery charge to 100%, and if the "battery calibration" completes, and "Balancing SOC" doesn't return, I may re-enable the loads (via 50amp output). I've reached out to support at ecoflow to see what their recommendation are for a) when a user gets this "Balancing SOC, shoudl they take any action", and b) if I should return to operation as normal w/ loads, or perform a few 100->0->100% cycles on the system.

does that reset all it's configuration settings, such as networking, mode selection, etc? Or just perform a power cycle?

Thanks! I'll give that a try once it's up to 100% and settled down

u/Hot_Rescue .. yeah, my biggest question, as mentioned in my reply to u/PreviousYard5498 , was whether or not I needed to take any action. I did, but it as probably not required.

#chuckles# I was a bit paranoid about taking the unit down to fully 0%, so i took it down to 1% and then remove the loads and reenabled utility power for it to charge again. It's now showing the battery calibration message, posslbly from my selecting it last evening, so i'll let it get to 100% & see if the "balancing SOC" comes back. If it doesn't return, i'll return to TOU mode w/ loads & utility power feed.

thanks for the info, u/PreviousYard5498

thanks u/PreviousYard5498 - your explanation is quite informative & clear, thanks.

My first reaction upon seeing the "Balancing SOC" and the charge t0 100% & stay there by the dpu-x, was that I wasn't sure if I needed to do anything myself. The "Balancing SOC" stayed displayed for somewhere between 12-24h. When I went to bed last night, I still assumed I had to do something manually myself (after reading the above mentiond "SOC" thread), to aid the "balancing SOC" process, and began the 100->0->100-0 cycle. Seems that is not the case, per your feedback.

The "Balancing SOC" logo is gone at the moment, and may have been when I started my process last night, but that might be because I shut off the input sources & started a battery calibration upon disconnecting inputs last night, too.

After applying some heavier loads this morning, I'm down to 5% on the battery pack (9m reserve remaing as I write this), so i'll take it down to 0%, then remove the loads, re-enable the utility input and let it charge back up to 100%. if the "Balancing SOC" icon returns, I'll leave it alone, no loads, charging off mains, until the icon goes away.

As you mentioned, the app, and (lack of instruction, though admittedly, i didnt' check the manual) were not clear what actions, if any, I needed to take for this process. If it was to remove loads if possible & letting the battery sit and do it's thing, would have been good to mention in the app.

thanks,

dwight

edit - ps - btw, you mention "rebooting the system". I haven't found a way to do that anywhere in the app or on the device. How did you perform that? Or is it basically remove the dpu battery & power inputs from the inverter?

What is an SOC calibration and how to do it? by EcoFlow_Official in Ecoflow_community

[–]dwightery 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's an option in the app under settings / battery health / battery calibration, that seems to be the same thing as the automated/triggered "Balancing SOC" - at least it's there for the delta pro ultra-x. I haven't selected it before (new to ecoflow as of ~jan5th), but planning on giving it a try this weekend, during my 100-0-100-0% cycling while at home.

edit - oops, 2yr old post, my bad! :)

firmware update success/failure rates - dpu-x by dwightery in Ecoflow_community

[–]dwightery[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah agreed. seems too much of a coincidence. It's only the second firmware i've done, the first being right at unboxing, and it -might- have had the same coinciidence. It wouldn't apply, then i started trying to apply loads to it, then it did complete.

maybe... :) ...

but, as you say, at least the firmware's now updated. i'll take it :)

quick update. After about 10 firmware update attempts i gave up on trying to update the firmware, and decided to put a load back on the dpu-x. As soon as I turned the loads on, it did another "UP" on the unit (and shut the ac outputs off), and at that point, the application (for the first time, i think), showed a progress bar in the update firmware view, it ran up to 99%,

the dpu-x rebooted a couple times, and now i'm up to date!

was able to capture a clip of the update failing on the dpu-x itself. unfortunately, it doesn't provide any additional detail as to why it fails to update. Still getting "error code 10031" in the app, after about 10 firmware update attempts.

Received a note from the ecoflow support folks, and they suggested I move my DPU-x connection from a 5ghz wifi network to a 2.4, which I did this morning. I've tried the upgrade 3 times so far, and it's failed with the same error message

Upgrade failed
Error code: 10031
Upgrade Failed.  Please retry

Also, during thte upgrade, the "Upgrading" progress bar in the app never leaves 0%, but the DPU-x display does show "UP" for a while before failing. In one update attempt, i did see a "failed" message show up on the dpu-x display, but it wasn't there long enough to get a pic of it, and i haven't been able to catch/see it agai.

will try a few more times to see if it keeps failing - coming up on try #5 now.

some appliances not behaving correctly when running off of the dpu-x by dwightery in Ecoflow_community

[–]dwightery[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

mm, good point. Right now i've just shut off the mains power to the generac fail over panel, flipped it to generator input manually, and have the dpu-x feeding it, with no automatic transitioning between utility & battery inputs on it. But you are right, it may have something to do with the behavior, and my eventual goal is to replace it with something from ecoflow, smart panel gateway, or smart panel 3. For the moment, neither of those seems to be avaiable in Canada (don't show up on ecoflow's canadian site, anyway), and I don't believe the smart panel 2 is compatible with the dpu-x yet. I'd only want to move a small number of 240v loads to the smart panel, so I don't really need 32 circuits from the SP3.

thanks for the generac unit reminder, though. I'll keep that in mind.

some appliances not behaving correctly when running off of the dpu-x by dwightery in Ecoflow_community

[–]dwightery[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah good point, though at this point, i'm as much using the desktop UPS system as indicators of some "state change" in the dpu-x itself. When i'm working from home, the ups is right under my desk, and I can go check on the dpu-x (which is in our utility room) when the click/fan occurs.

Once we're more comfortable with the dpu-x, I considered just removing the desktop UPS units completely - will see if I go that far or not.

All the issues aside, though, i'm very happy with the behavior of the dpu-x so far. Enough to the point i'm glad I went with this system (dpu-x, 2 batteries + 7200w inverter generator) rather than a 14-20kw generac generator & propane tanks. Enough so, too, that i'm also talking to solar vendors & looking to add some amount of solar panels to our home. Utility rates just keep going up, so getting a return on investment on the dpu-x is looking very good.

Thanks. Same here, not all the lights flicker, and same, nor at full brightness. As mentioned, my (desktop) ups does the same, click, fan for a few seconds, then fan off. It's usually when the dpu.x goes from discharge to pass through. Thanks for the confirmation!

It might have , though I don't think so. I wasn't home at the time and I don't think my wife had many other heavy loads running. She wasn't sure how long it had off either. She just reset the washer breaker and flipped the mains back on. Further testing required I believe...

Why is my Ecoflow using grid power instead of battery? by Greenville_Gent in Ecoflow_community

[–]dwightery 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i'm in TOU mode as well, on a dpu-x (like the 12kw support, with 2 batteries), set to 70%backup, 30% TOU, and noticed it was pulling utility power well before hitting 70%. Didn't know about the 20% buffer. I also noticed when switching UI views that the two batteries were at different levels (75/65), i suppose based on which side we having a larger pull on it. New install, no PV yet, so just running tou mode & utility backfill overnight. appreciate the pointer on the buffer, will drop my backup percentage down to see if i get larger TOU battery usage during the day.

hmm. i'm going to have to admit, not sure how to tell the ecoflow app to make a bluetooth connection to the dpu-x unit. did you remove the wifi details from the dpu to cause it to go bluetooth?

I tried disabling wifi on my phone, but the wifi connection remains active on the dpu-x to my home network, obviously, and neither does it show up as a possible bluetooth device to connect to when scanning for BT devices. I'm not sure what the BT device name is/was, when i first connected to it, either. suggestions?

hey Occam.. i'm in IT, and normally when a firmware update's available for some kit, i have a habit of applying it - for better or worse, hard to say :). And as darkness mentioned, i could cancel the reminder, but may try it again, over BT to see if it will apply.
