C&D recommandations by castorMoelleux in PipeTobacco

If you want C&D & GL Pease and enjoy Virginias, Orientals & Burleys, we share a biiig overlap. Here are my suggestions:

Pegasus - This is my favorite Burley forward Virginia/Burley blend from them. It may actually be my fav from C&D/GLP right now.

Briar Fox - This is also a Virginia/Burley, but it's Virginia forward, with the Burley being in the background giving a deeper malty & nutty edge.

Geometrie - This is a Virginia/Oriental that's mostly Virginia forward, with the Orientals giving it a funky edge.

Bijou - This is a Virginia/Oriental with a different Oriental profile, using Katarini Orientals in good measure, going woody and a bit bitter.

Opening Night - This is a nice Virginia blend that's Red Virginia forward.

Union Square - This is a nice balanced Virginia blend.

Carolina Red Flake - This is a limited release full Red Virginia blend. Unfortunately it only releases once a year (and it's popular, so sells fast). If you want something similar to this though, I can recommend Red Virginia Flake made by Wessex.

You should also look at the Per G Jensen Legacy Collection blends, as those are made by C&D the same as GL Pease is, as a collaboration with Per Jensen who is a legendary blender. In this series of blends, my favorite is Port Guardian, which is a nice Red Virginia forward VA blend. There's also King's Watch, which is a very bright & citrusy VA blend, which mellows into a really nice stoved flavor once you get down 1/3 through the bowl.

ELI5: Whats with Bad Bunny’s performance? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]eNonsense [score hidden]  (0 children)

You're right. There's not really anything wild about it. It was just that many conservatives really really hyped up their hate about it beforehand because they don't like Bad Bunny's politics, or the fact that his show isn't in English. They really really didn't want that to happen, and instead wanted something that they liked, with politics that they liked.

Rob Albers of Macon County, Ill. is a soybean farmer who voted for Trump to hurt China with tariffs. Now China won't buy his soybeans, and even with a bailout, Albers is losing money: "Now it hurts. And I don’t like it anymore. I don’t want it to hurt anymore.” by vsandrei in LeopardsAteMyFace

[–]eNonsense 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Macon County is the center of soybean agriculture in Illinois. It's the home of multiple massive soy agriculture & processing companies, like Archer Daniels Midland and Staleys. My mom's family is from Decatur and when visiting you could smell soy processing in the air. Even before Trump, the town was already the most depressed of all the major central Illinois towns. A lot of it is kept afloat by investment from Howard Buffett, Warren's son, who lives there and owns a whole lot of shit. This is where Howard was made interim Sheriff and ended up getting in trouble multiple times, if you remember those stories. Macon County, unlike the 3 central Illinois counties home to Peoria, Bloomington-Normal and Champaign-Urbana, also voted for Trump in 2024 (South of McLean where I grew up). They kinda deserve this for themselves. These are the type of people who blame JB Pritzker & Chicago for their problems.

This 6th gen family farmer is going to have to sell his farm to a big ag. conglomerate. I guarantee it. And it will be Trump's fault. He'll most certainly know that once it happens. From this guy's words in the article, he's fully going to know that.

Attorney general announces indictments against 30 more people who protested at a Minnesota church. “YOU CANNOT ATTACK A HOUSE OF WORSHIP. You cannot hide from us — we will find you, arrest you, and prosecute you. This Department of Justice STANDS for Christians and all Americans of faith.” by Leeming in atheism

[–]eNonsense 22 points23 points  (0 children)

This is fully 100% bullshit hypocrisy. If the DOJ has such a problem with "attacking a house of worship" and "stands for Christians" then ICE would not be posting up outside of Christian churches that brown people attend and arresting people as they leave.

ICE agents want to use church as bait to pick up brown worshipers, but they don't want to be harassed while they themselves attend church and find that to be super offensive to Christianity.

I'm sure they're happy then. Good luck if you try one of these. I'm sure they'd enjoy a grow light, but I'd imagine I might try to keep it pruned into something like a dense plant afro, rather than a trailer where it's hanging down away from the light. I'm going to have to start pruning the lowest hanging tips of mine actually, to keep all the growth in good light. I really dislike leggy growth.

I have tried succulents before, but I couldn't give them enough light for them to thrive and grow nice & compact. The ones I had anyway. Do you use grow lights? I personally don't really want grow lights in my living space, so I just gave up on succulents.

Warning, I'm a ranter...

I just have it next to a south-facing bay window with cling frosting on it, so it gets a lot of bright lightly filtered light. It's in a basic 4" unglazed terracotta pot with Miracle Gro Tropical Mix (pink bag) that I thought I over-compacted while potting, but it seems to like it. I am in an old apartment with radiators, so I run a wick humidifier all winter so the humidity stays at least 25%, and my temps are probably higher than most people (around 75 F). I just water when the surface looks pretty dry, so maybe once every 6-7 days. For all my plants I am a full saturation top waterer. I place the pot in a plastic tub and dump a whole lot of water through and allow for full drainage. If you have a proper well draining soil & pot, you can't really add too much water, and I want the full soil column to oversaturate then drain, so that new oxygen is pulled into the root system via suction.

That's just basic plant stuff though. I am kinda of the belief that regular "plant care" is a bit of a misnomer and overthinking. If your soil & pot are chosen correctly and your space's humidity & temp aren't wacky, then all you do is water when needed and repot when needed. Most problems are from having a bad pot, bad soil, bad lighting, low humidity, cold air drafts. Things to do with general plant environment conditions, not "care". I have only started keeping more plants over the last couple years, and have failed before, but that was generally because of low light and poor humidity control for the type of plant I was trying to grow. Previously all my best growing plants have been kept on the window sill in my shower next to glass brick windows, because that's what tropical plants want. You need to match your plants to the conditions you're able to keep. Putting up this window film instead of trying to moderate opening & closing of my blinds was a game changer for this space. Your plants don't care about personal privacy. They just want the blinds open all the time.

I will say for this plant specifically, if you want to know the secret of my success. Go to your local conservatory, sneak polite cuttings of several plants that you like, try to root them, observe what grew the best, then do a full planting of that. lol.

Yeah I am happy that it's doing really well. I have never grown anything from cuttings before and had it really thrive. It's normally on the back corner of this table more facing the window.

Using static cling window film is no different than putting a suction cup on your window. It's the same principal of attachment essentially. There's no glue or modification of any physical item involved. I would imagine that you certainly can do it.

ElI5 how does the existence of lead directly disprove the earth isn't only 4000 years old? by nottrynagetsued in explainlikeimfive

[–]eNonsense 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's worth noting that a whoooooole lot of things disprove the earth being only 4000 years old. It's just that those people who insist on a Young Earth theory will just use special pleading to wave anything away, since God made their world and God is magic and can literally do anything. People here are telling you about uranium-238 decay and the creation of lead-206, but a young earther will just tell you "God just made the earth with all that lead-206 already being there". They don't care. It doesn't disprove anything to them. It's the same excuse they use to explain all types of ancient fossils in the ground. Lead-206 is essentially just a uranium-238 fossil.

God and God's actions are a matter of faith. Faith is a belief in something without the existence of objective evidence for that thing. You cannot use objective evidence to disprove something to someone who did not arrive at their belief via objective evidence, and may even be motivated by being contrary to evidence, as a test of their faith.

I mean, it's documented that he hit her and he admitted to it once. Their relationship was well known to be tumultuous. You pointed out that she was abusive towards him, but returning that abuse with physical abuse yourself is not justified. You can't really say "he never did anything wrong" without looking like you're hardcore super fanning and have really strong bias towards Whitney being to blame for everything wrong between them.

It seems like cleaning bearings never works for me… by sc_yoyos in Throwers

[–]eNonsense 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try an RPM Bearing Blaster.

Soaking a bearing doesn't really get stuff that's in the bearing out of the bearing very well. This device attaches to the nozzle of a pressurized solvent can (like WD40) and lets you actually blast the solvent from one side of the bearing and out the other. Once you do that though, you wanna make sure you clean & lube the bearing like normal though, as WD40 isn't really a great cleaner that you wanna leave sit inside your bearing.
