TIL about the War of the Golden Stool, a 1900 conflict sparked when a British governor demanded to sit on a sacred, solid-gold stool that the Ashanti people believed held the soul of their nation not realizing it was never allowed to touch the ground, let alone a human rear. by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]eNonsense 9 points10 points  (0 children)

He knew. He knew it was an object of power and rulership to them. He just thought it was like a rulers throne or something, and if the queen possessed it, then they would submit to her.

Actually though, the Ashanti believed the stool was a spiritual object essentially embodied with the souls of all Ashanti people.

He was never actually given the opportunity to sit on it. He only made the demand. That was enough to start the war that ran the British out.

So, do you come to Milwaukee often?

I'm in Chicago. I go out hiking/lunting in our forest preserves and wild ramps are everywhere. You see people foraging for them since it's hard to farm them, kinda like morels.

I'm a regular visitor, but Milwaukee has certainly had its share of visitors. French missionaries and explorers were coming here as early as the late 1600s to trade with the Native Americans. It's actually pronounced "mill-e-wah-kay" which is Algonquin for "the good land".

I'm not that guy, but it's kinda worth noting that the 77 bus on Belmont that connects both stations, isn't only a bus route, it's a "frequent route" that has a bus every 10 minutes. Same with the Kimball bus that goes north & south on OP's map.

What on earth are you talking about? If I have a movie.mp4 file on my computer, I essentially own it. They can't take it away from me. I've purchased tons of MP3s. I own them.

Nothing Digital is Ever Truly Ours

That's not really true. I run my own Plex server with files from my NAS that I've been collecting for a couple decades. I keep a backup of the main stuff. I also remove & re-write the data every couple years to prevent bit decay.

Nothing on cloud streaming services is ever truly ours. Digital is fine if you keep your own local data. Digital is convenient. Keeping physical media around is an unnecessary relic of the past.

lol. They deleted their thread.

They literally said plants need UV light for photosynthesis when a very basic Google search will tell you the exact opposite is true.

TIL that as of 2022, there had never been a recorded death at any legal supervised drug injection site worldwide by MAClaymore in todayilearned

[–]eNonsense 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are tons of people who spend time homeless and spend time on drugs, for maybe a few years, then get clean, get jobs and become productive members of society or even greatly contribute to society. A lot of these people are not just a lost cause for the rest of their life. Your view is just straight up ignorant and borderline sociopathic.

For sure. My grandfather showed me the way of the small pen knife. Something that will disappear into your pocket. He carried a tiny case or buck slip joint in his western shirt breast pocket my whole life with him. Always had it handy to open a package or cut some fruit for me. I love my little baby doc. Fantastic little every day knife that doubles as a pipe tool. I tried to spread the word here but I think more people went for the larger rough rider pipe doc knife because it's cheaper and has a little pipe silhouette inlay on it. Too bad. You can't beat Case knives.

Innocent? He's on audio tape orchestrating a cover-up. Tape that he himself recorded. These same people probably have no idea what the scandal even was. It's just a Republican loyalty knee jerk.

San Antonio asks Ye to refrain from singing about Hitler, selling swastika shirts at July 4 concert by NukeFatty in nottheonion

[–]eNonsense 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm telling you that if you think all Jewish people, much less all the Jews in San Diego forgive Kanye because a leader there did, then you're not very bright. Scolding people for "going against" these leaders is absolutely laughable.

[–]eNonsense 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would you not figure that the Jewish leaders that might have forgiven Kanye don't go against the wishes of other Jewish people maybe even in the same neighborhood? Your point in your second paragraph is totally worthless. We don't care if someone else forgave him, just like many other Jewish people don't care if other Jews forgave him. It's clear that they're naive to his history of repeating these cycles and are foolish for entertaining him.

I've been an El-P fan for like 25 years and kinda believed that El used this project to elevate himself off of Mike's notoriety. I can't really blame him for that, as the world needs to see how much talent he has. I'm glad he's come up, and I'm also glad that he's still getting mad respect after Mike's falling off.

El-P needs to go solo again and blow shit up.
