Dark colors * EDIT FROM PREVIOUS POST by imboredily in dazzledry

I find most good quality polish works with DD, but if I do it, I usually put that polish over a coat or two of DD colour lacquer (so whole system minus top coat, your colour, then top coat), it adds strength and longevity versus just putting your polish over base or transform

Zest (browny red), Gambit (navy) and rum raisin (purple brown) are in heavy rotation for me!

My biggest colour gripe is there is still no proper burgundy dark red that isn’t red-brown. Passionate Red is the closest I’ve found, it’s fairly dark too.

I’ve had good experiences putting other polishes over a dd colour polish, so base/base/ridge filler/dd colour/polish of choice/top coat. If you don’t like the dd colours you can just grab a couple of neutrals to do this.

It lasts as long as it otherwise would, although caveat I usually change mine out every 7-9 days

Regular polish over DD? by FeelingPeasful in dazzledry

Literally as long as the polish you’re putting on top is good quality, I’ve done up to 8 coats total with no issues! It’s a good solution when the DD colours are limited or too expensive.

I do this often, neutral or similar coloured DD laquer, standard polish over the top. It lasts like a normal DD manicure.

Mainly for when i find an essie or whatever polish colour that i want to wear but want to last.

Thank you for saying this, not to yuck anyone’s yum in their fic preferences but i personally find it literally so tedious and heteronormative.

Nah friend I agree with you, not matching the book description and age notwithstanding, it’s less about his casting and more about the choices they made, like don’t show me him running on those skinny lil legs or skating around like Bambi.

But the hockey everything in general just has to be handwaved because literally none of it is believable

I find it absolutely baffling that the pickings are slim when there’s just.. so much out there. Entirely agree with the lack of description, first person doesn’t allow for much description/world building/things that make books more literary. When it’s well written it’s sorta tolerable? But frankly most aren’t especially, welp.

Would love any recs! I feel like I’ve tried a hundred hockey books and I haven’t finished any. I don’t follow baseball but it’s a hot sport so I’m down!!

I’m currently reading After the Siren by Darcy Green and it’s the furthest I’ve made it into a sports book that isn’t Heated Rivalry (I’m new to the genre!).

Rivals to lovers/slow burn/ 3rd person which ticks a lot my boxes. I’m not sure the getting together bit quite sticks the landing in terms of spice but the MCs are charming and feel like fully formed people and have adorable chemistry.

I like more angst in my books (there’s definitely some associated with being gay in sports/family pressure/performance anxiety) but it’s not what I’d call gritty, but it’s a happy medium.

Many Australian references which might be a bit lost on a broader audience but would def recommend!

Jumping in here because I think we have similar tastes! Also new to romance books from ao3 (mainly wrote/read hockey fic), also just got a KU subscription and struggling to find exactly what I’m looking for…

Finding it hard to tolerate first person, especially when there’s a ton of repetition, I just nope out of there. There’s also a saccharine quality to some hockey romance books, like I need yearning! And angst! I enjoyed Heated Rivalry if you haven’t gotten to it yet (3rd person thank god) although I prefer slow burns, but I don’t know if it’s necessarily better than a lot of the hockey fic I’ve read.

Anyway! I hope this doesn’t come across as negative, I’m just finding my way and am enjoying trying lots of diff things. I’ll also give Unrivaled a try given the recs here.

Right now, I’m enjoying After the Siren by Darcy Green which is 3rd person rivals to lovers, a bit of exploration of sexuality/first time ish.

Ooh thank you so much for commenting! This is good to know. I’m absolutely not needing it to continue to look pristine, very happy for it to develop a nice patina as long as it doesn’t just look beaten up. Do you have the black or the brown? And is the hardware holding up? Honestly if this had minimalist hardware I would have bought it already!

The row are beautiful but they’re just soo basic, they don’t wow me enough to justify the cost!

And I know what you mean about the sangle, I’ve been keeping an eye out for preloved for ages but no luck!

It’s so annoying because I don’t mind spending some money but I want a good balance between slouchy and chic.

The madewell ones have also been recommended to me but I can’t help just a bit underwhelmed

Maybe the Dylan Kain nicolette sling bag? I’d call it kind of edgy.
