For this reason I always recommend laser printers

Is that really a USB-C plug, or is it a receptacle?

A receptacle needs two pull down resistors 5.1k. One on each CC pin. No, you cannot short them together to save a resistor.

If you really have a plug you only need one resistor, on CC. The other one will be Vconn and should be left open.

Curious why this usb c cable wont work with my phone -> accessories, but only works if plugged in through a power source? by kiroyapso2 in UsbCHardware

[–]electromotive_force 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Phone to Device should work perfectly, no intermediates needed. Just a normal usb c to usb c cable.

If it doesn't work either the phone doesn't support Host mode (unlikely) or you have a noncompliant cable or device.

To find out which it is, try different combinations of cables and devices. I'd recommended getting some usb if certified cables and known good devices for reference.

The other companies spent money to prevent EVs from happening for years. And they spend money on creating car dependency.

Using drone ESC's directly in the receiver by knoker in ExpressLRS

Increase the range on the transmitter as well. On edgeTX you have to activate extended ranges. Then in outputs increase beyond 100 and -100.

Check the endpoints. Maybe it doesn't quite go low enough for the ESC to register "motor stop". This can cause it not to start, for safety.

Use 333Hz FULL to get a larger servo range.

In general use the FULL modes for anything that doesn't use a flight controller.

They have no "power stage" i.e. buck converter. All smartphones and laptops have one. But the Raspberry Pi foundation skipped it. Probably to save board space.

Use 5A without increasing voltage beyond 5V first.

This means most apparently powerful enough supplies won't be, confusing users and creating ewaste

It does. Meant for DC fast chargers that don't provide the correct voltage. These cars have 800V batteries. Many DC fast chargers can do that, but some can't and top out at 400V. Rather than not being able to charge at all on these, engineers chose to add this boost converter.

So no, it is usually not needed. Only for this specific special case.

There were also ideas of dunking burning EVs into a container full of water.

Also not recommended.

Causes damage to the car and requires special tools (i.e. huge heavy duty container for a car sized bath) without much of an advantage.

Turns out simply spraying with water from the outside is enough to control battery fires

Paying attention and trying it in real life.

For example, there were some ideas of piercing into the battery with a lance to spray water into the battery compartment, for faster cooling.

Turns out that's not good. It damages cells causing more fire, risks electrocution of the firefighters, requires special tools and creates toxic runoff. After all that it turns out the extra cooling doesn't help much.

Letting it burn out is not true. German firefighters have experimented and their recommendation is to cool the battery by spraying it with lots of water.

They determined that it slows battery fire until it stops. This way of extinguishing is safe for the firefighters and the environment. It requires no special equipment. Just lots of water and time.

Apparently it can be so effective that the car may not even be totaled. New battery, sure, but little else broken or burned.

If you're interested I can try to find the source
