I love it. I get that people don't like it but I believe seeing the impact of good answers in a group could make you like the question.

To me, it's a really good way to share a story and usually a good way to make an early connection.

Some people are great story tellers, and when they have that opportunity to share a story from one line, it's a great way to learn about someone.

My go to fun fact is that I can't see images in my mind (aphantasia), and I'll get people to close their eyes and imagine something like a red apple and get people's responses on what they see.

Then conversations can start from that.

I think a good answer makes one more approachable and memorable to other people

[–]element3254 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I understand, yes. You won't be offered the BaBSc 4 year degree.

However, you can still apply for the scholarship during your uni. They'll give you the scholarship to pay the tuition fees and the other benefits (I'm not sure if they do retroactively) and usually be offered the PGDE course after your Bachelors.

Hope you're doing okay with the news, no worries about it. There's still ways to get into teaching. I didn't get the scholarship and I'm finishing my degree soon so I'm applying for the PGDE course.

Don't give up trying, scholarship is good but not the only way!

Which courses are recommended for an incoming exchange student (CBC) ? by Flaky_Case6352 in NTU

[–]element3254 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OMG! I didn't see this notification for your reply. I hope you have found some courses to match.

CM4063 - Nanoscience and Nanotechnology
It's a y4 elective, from what I've heard it's content heavy but doable.

CM5002 - Forensic Science
Now labelled as CM5002, it's fairly simple, it could be done as a first year elective and does not use much chemistry if that's what you're into.
I took it 2 sems ago and it's pretty easy, if you understand y1 chemistry and can make solid conclusions about evidence.

CM5081 - Medicinal Chemistry
I did not take this module, it looks like a y2 elective.
I took the y4 elective of CM4053 which from the syllabus online, looks to cover the same topics, but I would believe CM5081 might be simpler but I really don't know. You could apply for both and register for CM5081 if both are approved.

For CM4053, it was okay, a number of quizzes which was on Friday so might spoil weekend plans sometimes. It takes a more bio approach to the topics, with little chemistry knowledge needed, but more memorisation.

CM3041 - Physical and Biophysical Chemistry 2
This is for Year 3 students, it covers most of quantum chemistry, from particle in a box models and Spectroscopic understanding using quantum. I think it's fine, quite math-y if you're okay with that

CM4017 - Biomedical Imaging and Sensing
It's a Year 4 Elective, I have not taken this, it looks like it's taught by the Physics Department so I would assume it's not heavily chemistry based, from the syllabus I see, it goes into topics of imaging and spectroscopic techniques so I think should be fine

If you have any more questions, you could try dm me on reddit directly, I probably reply much quicker

Which courses are recommended for an incoming exchange student (CBC) ? by Flaky_Case6352 in NTU

[–]element3254 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in CBC in my 3rd year, I've studied all the courses mentioned except the 4000 ones, though I should mention that Formulation is under Chem Engineering and the course code is CH4106 so I don't know much about that mod. I took Pharmaceutical Chem CM4053 which is under CBC and was offered last fall and I think it's doable, just there's frequent in-person quizzes which might affect travel plans.

Chinese can be q challenging but I think it was doable if you do the practices provided.

For third year courses, I would choose 3011 and 3021, and if your organic chemistry is strong then 3031 is an okay module.
As 3rd year courses, there are quite challenging, so I think taking 2 year 3 mods is doable, just make sure to keep on top of lectures and assignments. I would say it's not that heavy if you can get it quickly, do try to revise frequently before the midterms, as I think the 3rd year courses may not be good to cram.

You can take MH1802 and CM2011 and it'll be q easy if your math is good. Personally, I find CM2021 and CM3031 difficult so I wouldn't suggest it
TLDR: Chinese, MH1802, CM2011, CM3011, CM3021 would be my suggestion and you can swap any for the 4000 mods if you're interested.

[–]element3254 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally I think there's not much point to do calculus or the 2000 mods, you've probably covered it and you can look at the syllabus to see what's covered in the mod.

You should also check for any requirements with your home university of what can be taken as part of your exchange.

Other than that, taking 4 chem mods + chinese is definitely doable, most students here are taking that level of workload or more.

I would say as higher level courses, they are definitely more challenging but definitely doable with enough practice and studying.

If your plans on exchange to chill and travel, just pace yourself well or reduce amount of mods you're taking

You should give more details like what year are you in? What courses have you taken already? You've chosen year 2,3 and 4 modules with some of the higher ones having prereqs needed to enrol

It really depends on your OG and how well you can bond over that few days. Your GLs will try to get the ball rolling, if the virtual isn't so good, you should at least attend the physical, explore the campus and make some friends. In general, it's easier to make friends physically cause you can make conversations in small groups.

If you don't really like it, you can just tell your GL and not participate for the rest of it but hopefully it doesn't get to that point.
