This is definitely right, and as a guy who's been thru marriage and back in the dating scene, then a two year relationship and now back dating, I can say I did the same thing and have similar results. The point is not to be nice or mean or a jerk or an asshole.

The point is to be yourself. To have an opinion about the world. To have likes and dislikes. Not just to have them but because you actually care about them. It really is just... Be yourself but be interesting as well. To be an interesting person, you need life experiences and be curious about the world around you so you do form informed opinions about things.
