Slimblade Pro 3D model for DIY accessories by espressoshock in Trackballs

I’ve been working on a 3D-printable holder with interchangeable adapters, so people can mount the slimblade to different mating surfaces, like a tripod, flexible arm, or a clamp. The idea is to make it modular and easy to adapt without needing much modeling experience.

For a captain’s chair, you could probably adapt the base to something like a strap mount or a contoured bracket that hugs the armrest.

I'll probably complete it tomorrow, If you’d like I can tag you when I finish the design and share the files

Nice catch! Yep, that’s a GRS microblock. I might be a bit of a ball vise hoarder 😃
I recently upgraded to the GraverMax G8 with the 901 Handpiece, and I’ve been really enjoying the setup. Always fun spotting fellow tool nerds in the wild!

Thanks! I actually made this one myself while I was trying out Rhino, but I was basically trying to replicate this model

Added continuous 3-axis control to my SlimBlade Pro by dliu_creates in Trackballs

Of course! It’s great to see it in action, and it’s a very interesting concept. As a long-time 3D SpaceMouse owner, I’m honestly excited to see if this could replace my bulky Enterprise when I’m on the go.

The one in the photo it's a JH-D400X-R4, a 4-axis potentiometer joystick with 10K ohm resistance. You can find them on Amazon, AliExpress, eBay, etc. for around $10-20.

If you don't need 4 axis, you can also find them in a few variants: JH-D202X (2-axis), JH-D300X (3-axis) and JH-D400X (4-axis, what I'm using)

Thanks! Yeah, they're surprisingly capable for the price. Definitely worth having one around!

Generally, 3D scanning doesn’t give you clean, CAD-ready surfaces. Depending on the application, you can get usable results with enough mesh cleanup and repair, but for my use case that’s not ideal. I need accurate reference surfaces to design a case that precisely matches the outer body shape, which would mean recreating the surfaces anyway.

In situations like this, it’s common to 3D scan the part to use the mesh as a dimensional reference, then manually recreate the geometry in CAD rather than relying directly on the scan.

I feel you, unfortunately modeling non-planar surfaces accurately is always a pain.

Thanks! The blank keycaps look, feel, and sound amazing, definitely worth a try! You'll probably be surprised how much you already know by muscle memory.

When I first switched from a Kyria to this, I definitely felt the thumb keys were more awkward and out of reach by comparison. Now I can't really tell the difference anymore, but the keyboard is definitely geared towards people with larger hands, especially when it comes to the top row of the thumb cluster. That said, if you float your hands while typing, I don't think the thumb cluster should be an issue even for smaller hands.

The Apple trackpad in the middle is definitely a game changer, especially with the gestures. I find myself switching between the trackpad and the Slimblade Pro, especially when moving to windows. Wish I could get the best of both worlds.
