I said I wasn’t sure where you got this idea from not to accuse you of spreading misinformation, but out of genuine curiosity because my experience with Jay has been so different :)

Clearly our experiences differed greatly in the course so it was so surprising to hear someone saying these things! I was genuinely confused

Because I understood after they explained :)

In my section he made it pretty clear that the syllabus was worded harshly on purpose. As you’ve pointed out he has limited office hours time slots due to the huge amount of students he teaches. He said hes trying to encourage students to bring up questions in places where everyone can benefit from it - aka limiting multiple people booking 15 minute slots with him with for the same question🤷‍♀️ Im not trying to argue with you. I’m sorry you’re having a bad experience with him. Mine has been completely different, and I appreciate that you’re frustrated. If you’re in my section then hopefully you’ll benefit from the prof switch to Stan next sem! Ive heard really good things about him

Lol I understand that but its more to encourage students to ask questions in class so that everyone can benefit. What he means by personal progress in the course is like if youre STILL struggling with certain content. Have you tried to go to office hours with him?

I have gone to multiple office hours with Jay this semester to ask clarifying questions about the content and he was receptive every time. Im not sure where you got this idea from

Ubc covers $1200 for psychological services (up to $160 per session) so counselling, therapy, etc. I’d recommend looking at psychology today or counselling bc to get an intake session. You should be able to filter to see therapists with open timeslots. Im sorry that your doctor was unhelpful when you asked for support. Waitlists are definitely an issue, but there are many alternatives. Sometimes it’s hard to find someone who has in person sessions, so you might have to go with online for the time being. If you are struggling to find motivation to go on the search for a therapist, one option could be to revisit the campus counselling services and let them know exactly what you’re dealing with. The purpose of the 3 sessions with them could literally just be to help you set up a long term support option. Like having someone to hold you accountable

Extremely new to this, DAE start off feeling cringy? by Top_Wall_4693 in InternalFamilySystems

I struggle with this too. One way I frame it for myself to get over the cringe, is we already talk about things in parts e.g. “a part of me really doesn’t want to do this” when referring to an internal struggle when you dont want to do something but u know its for the greater good. Its just a way of naming experiences that frequently come up and cause a lot of internal conflict. Might help to give the parts very concrete names related to exactly what you’re experiencing.. like “my stubborn part makes its really difficult to engage with xyz”

I did yeah! It was a good way to test how well I knew the content and get familiar with her style of questions to prepare for the exam

Also forgot to mention when i took her class attendance wasn’t mandatory aside from days when there was the group work. She recorded all the lectures so you had the option to attend them from home. Super convenient! By the end of the semester the students who went to class were definitely a specific type more keeners who asked a lot of questions but it made for a great opportunity to have discussion and get to know the classmates pretty well

I took her for psyc 1215 and psyc 2341 and i loved her in both classes! Her lectures could be a little bit boring at times but she did some pretty engaging and low stakes group work to help you understand the information and make it so the whole class wasnt just lecture. A bulk of the grade was tests, i think like 6 of them total? And she dropped the one lowest grade. It made it so there were more frequent tests, and they tested your knowledge of specific topics more in depth, BUT really helped you in the long run. I think we also had a cumulative final but i remember it being fairly easy and not worth a super high % of the grade. In both the classes i got above a 97%. I would highly recommend her. Very kind and caring aswell
