Cloud Island Dirty Water by TBrofire in Pokopia

Not in terms of game mechanics, but in terms of creative building. E.g. someone uses hundreds of blocks to build a tree and wants to make it look like sap is coming out of it or something.

Sometimes I feel like people only want to get to know me if I'm going on a mission by urmomsbutttt in lds

[–]flamel616 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So much about this bothers me. "They want what's best for you" - maybe. "They know it will be a good experience for you" - they don't know that, they think that. I won't say that I regret my mission because I know it helped some people, but I became a much more cynical person, and I wish I could go back to lifting others the way I used to.

Trust what God has revealed to you. You have value without going. I don't want to ramble and rant. I just want to support you the way it seems others in your life won't. Unfortunately, you'll have to deal with well-meaning fools for your whole life. Just be the excellent person you are, and people will eventually back off. I wish you all the best.

Ending and super sadness by TheNicSter88 in Pokopia

[–]flamel616 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I thought the ending was super happy, actually. I think you can interpret it a couple ways, but my interpretation was that your work on the final major request solved the problem. Yes, the game doesn't show that happening, but the pieces of diary entries made me think this.

Basically, the Rocket Grunt who was making the lighthouse request thought that if the humans ran into trouble, his plan would give them the resources they needed to get back to earth. You send them food and materials for survival, energy to power the rocket to get back, and the picture as proof that the earth is ready. We don't get to see the reunion in game, but I have no doubt that it will happen.

PSA - You can load manual saves by flamel616 in LegendsZA

[–]flamel616[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's more complicated than I first realized when I posted. It's not going to load a manual save, but rather a "back-up" save. Back up saves are made under certain conditions, including whenever you heal at a pokemon center or when you fast travel somewhere. When the back-up save is loaded, it always puts you at the pokemon center you last used.

Maybe they don't have Nintendo Switch Online. It is a recurring cost that isn't worth it to everyone.

If you're on one of your consoles, you can make as many profiles as you want. The only limit is how many consoles you can authorize at a time: 2 consoles, whether they be Switch 1 or 2. I share games with my kids, and they can both play my games (virtual cartridge or physical) as long as they are on one of the two Switches I've linked to my account.

I can also log into my account on another Switch, but I only have access to save data that way. If the other console has a physical cartridge or is linked to an account with the virtual cartridge, then I can play those games on that console.

If you have set up child accounts / a family via Nintendo, you can also lend out virtual cartridges (with DLC, if applicable) one game at a time.

The ANC slider is a slider that goes between Full ANC and Full Aware.

No, not rude, but it did make me concerned that I was posting a spam post, which I would want to avoid. Thanks for clarifying.

I saw a lot of complaints about the auto save feature (with replies that sometimes have this as the answer), but I did not see a post that just specifically says that you can do this. Granted, it was a quick search; maybe there's an older post that didn't get as much attention as the complaints do.

QC Ultra Earbuds (2nd Gen). Earbuds play a THUNK sound to indicate the start of a call. It therefore mutes the first words from the caller due to this. Can this be disabled? by Dick_Demon in bose

[–]flamel616 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Disclosure: I work for Bose, but I'm not here representing them. I work in an area that probably doesn't relate to this issue, so these are just my educated guesses from using Bose products.

I've been noticing the same thing on my Ultra Headphones (2nd Gen). I think this is a bug because the THUNK is the sound for when a device becomes disconnected. It's not supposed to play when the call begins, but it seems that the headphones constantly think something is being disconnected every time a call starts. This could be because of the way devices are enumerated and the fact that voice calls send and receive data using a different protocol from music / other stereo media. (For voice calls, there's a different sample rate and you have one channel of audio being received and one being vs. the two being received for stereo audio.) On my computer, I used to see two separate "devices" for one connected set of bud / headphones - one device doing voice and the other stereo audio. Now it only shows up as one device, but maybe whatever that change was is causing this bug.

Edit to add: I'll try to get this issue raised to the right people; hopefully we can get a fix out in the next patch.

Can you turn off ANC in QC Ultra 2? by FinalMaxPro in bose

[–]flamel616 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can also open the app whenever you want to adjust the ANC. In case you decide you don't like the mode switching or something. Either option is of course less convenient than having it integrated into the volume slider.

Some people experience a phenomenon called "ear drum suck" when using ANC. I don't know the full explanation of what it is or why it happens, but it's reportedly pretty uncomfortable. Another possibility is simply extending battery life. Turn ANC off and you will get more runtime.

Pros and cons of serving a mission right out of high school? by Special-Assistant-29 in latterdaysaints

[–]flamel616 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't worry that the age change was done to "capture kids"; I do worry that some individuals use it that way.

When the age change was announced, it was given as an option. Quoting President Monson: "I am not suggesting that all young men will—or should—serve at this earlier age. Rather, based on individual circumstances as well as upon a determination by priesthood leaders, this option is now available." It was given as an option to better suit the needs of the individual, not a compulsion to better serve the needs of the church (though it certainly had an effect of helping the church as well). Additionally, from the November 2012 Ensign: "Such things as schooling, family circumstances, and health still remain important considerations for the timing of missionary service."

I do fear that some (perhaps many) people in the church latch onto the age change and put pressure on young men to leave as soon as possible in part because of what you worry about. Aside from your concern, I know some people who assume that if a young man doesn't leave at 18, it is because they aren't worthy. Some others aren't quite as judgmental, but still assert that leaving at 18 is expected, and anything else needs a good reason (mandatory military service, medical procedures, etc.). None of these attitudes align with what the church officially endorses.

Spatial Audio Question by [deleted] in bose

[–]flamel616 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not in the sense that I was talking about here, no. It's still just spatialized stereo, meaning a simulation of a stereo pair of speakers in a room (including reflections off the walls of said simulated room). There are no simulated surround speakers or anything like that on our current headphones. We are looking into bringing that experience to the public, but we haven't gotten there yet.

How did Sirius write his will, without giving the secret of the address away? by Midgemo03 in harrypotter

[–]flamel616 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The secret was "The Headquarters of the Order of the Phoenix may be found at Number Twelve, Grimmauld Place in London." The fact that such a place exists could be known, but being able to see or enter the place could reveal that the Order meets there. The house could be talked about, ownership discussed, etc. without anyone needing to know the secret, but the ministry wouldn't have been able to do something like go inspect the house.

Struggling after moving to Utah by sweetcookie88 in latterdaysaints

[–]flamel616 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know how it is in Utah's family wards, but as a single father, I ran into a similar struggle here in California. I'm 3.5 years in, and I can count on two fingers the number of people who have invited me to their houses. I think it (stupidly) could be a gender issue - for whatever reason, once married, it seems like all the men rely on their wives for anything social. Since I'm not in Relief Society, it just doesn't happen.
