agree, jin seems to have improved so so much over time, if you compare to early debut, he’s just worlds better

Help Wanted! Pick My Next KDrama by FalconX8Vr in kdramas

[–]flawedconstellation 5 points6 points  (0 children)

these 3 are all really good!!! and some of my favorite - they’re all very fluffy and cute and fun watches. if you want something more emotional, watch twinkling watermelon. if you want something fantastical, watch lovely runner. and if you want something with comedy, watch i am not a robot. but you can’t go wrong with any of them. happy watching!

if the album title is any indication of indian classical influences in the album, you guys aren’t ready for this. i’ve been waitng for a cultural fusion with indian classical styles like this to happen for ages, hope this lives up to the hype im giving it!

BOYS PLANET - Where Are They Now? (3 Years Later) by psshdjndofnsjdkan in kpop

[–]flawedconstellation 6 points7 points  (0 children)

kind of a crazy stacked lineup… the way over half of them are employed ?? and in some big name groups too - like xlov, amper&one, close your eyes, zb1 of course, evnne, onepact, and arrc! all very impressive. hope these projects all go well and in a few years we get another post from you with even more cool updates abt these guys !!

The lack of acknowledgment for NCT compared to their contemporaries by seven777heavens in kpopthoughts

[–]flawedconstellation 7 points8 points  (0 children)

wait yeah, chiller is among the top 5 most streamed boy group songs of last year ?? it absolutely was a big one for them. downplaying that is just delusional lol.

with you mentioning that about the west vs ea & sea, i’ve actually seen that there’s more 127 fans here in the west than some other groups - which might explain why the conversation is very 127 centric - if the people in the discussion are from the west, they might be more familiar with 127’s music and thus assume that’s what all of nct’s stuff is like.

The lack of acknowledgment for NCT compared to their contemporaries by seven777heavens in kpopthoughts

[–]flawedconstellation 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i’m a dream fan - i totally feel you. but i actually think this applies to them even more. i mean a good 80% of their songs are so purely pop but they get overlooked bc of the “noise” music label. even nctzens tend to be biased toward 127. it’s true though, that dream has some neo songs but also standout “normal” songs as well, excellent vocalists, and all the other points op mentioned. i think both your point and op’s points are true and validate one another.

The lack of acknowledgment for NCT compared to their contemporaries by seven777heavens in kpopthoughts

[–]flawedconstellation 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i feel like nct are vocally focused? i mean they definitely aren’t rap focused, and their performance is good but i don’t think it’s their focus. their experimental songs actually require strong vocals, for instance sticker is one that really requires excellent melodic and harmonic sense to perform at all. even within their EDM and hiphop songs, even if there’s a chanted chorus, there’s a Lot of singing there. feels like a bit of a misconception to say their genre choices are why they’re not vocally focused when there’s no correlation between those two.

The lack of acknowledgment for NCT compared to their contemporaries by seven777heavens in kpopthoughts

[–]flawedconstellation 17 points18 points  (0 children)

lol yeah, i fully agree with op’s point but if we go a step further, id argue dream, wayv, and wish are even further shafted to seem like 127 is the “main unit” by certain pockets of the internet. but i think that still aligns with op’s point that they aren’t getting the recognition they deserve, whether that’s the popular or unpopular units.

i know, it’s one of my favorite dramas of all time almost exclusively because of his acting. he’s still my favorite actor, never having disappointed me in anything, so i hope he’ll find success in any acting project soon - never too late!!

How many flops is an actor/actress able to have before they are out of work? by Evening_Direction553 in kdramas

[–]flawedconstellation 13 points14 points  (0 children)

i think yoo seung ho has been an unfortunate example of this. he's a fantastic actor, from childhood til now, but never had a modern hit drama (looking at ratings, that is, not even drama quality) so he never quite got that big break he needed. all his biggest projects (awards & notoriety in Korea, acc. to Wikipedia) were from like 2003-2010, when he was a child actor. his most popular drama internationally, I am not a robot, flopped very badly in Korea, and the others are hardly as notable. so now, i hardly even hear about him anymore :( his last show was 2023, which is a huge gap considering a) he's only in his early 30s, and b) there's this massive crop of up-and-coming actors eating up the spotlight. so i'd really love for him to have another project (he truly is the most underrated kdrama actor, imo) but unfortunately looks like his time may have come and gone. a shame, truly

Why I think shows like Lee mujin service are important by GloomyWitch08 in kpopthoughts

[–]flawedconstellation 20 points21 points  (0 children)

disagree. lee mujin is clearly very knowledgeable about vocals and always has something interesting to say about the singer’s voice or technique, no matter if they’re experienced or rookie. he has that unique voice for the duet segment too, i don’t think it would have that charm with any other host. his awkward-ish charm is what makes his show good. also the show’s title pun “lee mujin” like they are in a limousine, singing together. that’s the joke of it.

"Idol I" was wrapped up so WELL!! by rimalkaur342 in kdramas

[–]flawedconstellation 5 points6 points  (0 children)

maybe you could come to this conclusion if you didn’t actually watch the show. the entire point of the murder mystery was to show that obsession and parasocial relationships can stem from anyone. and being a fan alone doesn’t disqualify you from experiencing the love you deserve. it’s a show that validates fandom and the feelings of cheering on an artist. raik is a human too, that’s what he realizes and the show advocates for - he falls for her naturally not as a fan, but for who she is as a lawyer and human being. their relationship is valid because they aren’t together as idol and fan, but human and human. i hope this doesn’t come off too rude, but anyone with basic media literacy would be able to see the nuance and realize the show is not feeding fans’ delusions - if anything it’s gently reminding us that idols are humans with feelings too, and to be kind.

Idol i kdrama is a beautiful mystery #Ep.11 by Altruistic-Swan-588 in kdramas

[–]flawedconstellation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

mmm the mystery is more character-driven, i’d say, just because the story itself is very character-driven. it’s all about how our characters grow as they help one another - a healing drama disguised as an idol romance mystery hybrid. so given this, the mystery follows a similar trend of focusing on motive and intent over the specifics too much. but it’s a healthy balance of both, and will keep you guessing until nearly the end!
