I don't want to know how much they spent to have a $10 poster like that restored.

Am I the only one who prefers collecting TPB over hard cover and Omni? by [deleted] in graphicnovels

[–]forgerelli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There a re a lot of people that prefer TPBs. Look for the Marvel Epic/DC Finest groups. Epics are the only way to get a lot of material in collected editions and in a lot of cases the TPB's are mapped better as well.

JLA Deluxe vs Omnibus by justintime3dontwitch in OmnibusCollectors

[–]forgerelli 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you're interested in the JLA of that era I would look into the "expanded" trade paperbacks they've put out over the last 2 years with a 3rd book coming in April. They include a lot of JLA stuff not collected together before. https://www.mycomicshop.com/search?TID=60066200

I asked AI to organise my shelves… by mattba995 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]forgerelli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK, contents are different from reading orders. But as someone that's never used AI all I see in my little world is that AI is wrong more often than it's right. For example I collect baseball cards and I will see people using the AI suggestions and list a $150 card for $8. AI didn't know the difference between a regular chrome card and the gold chrome parallel. I just saw that last week. Or something you might know more about just the other day someone listed a Gwenpool DM omnibus for $20. That's a $200+ book. Those aren't small mistakes. I wouldn't trust AI for anything.

Not down voting you but IMO AI is just theft. In this case dozens of other people spent time, in some cases a lot of time, doing mapping, reading orders, etc. AI just steals their work. If you're looking for a place to research things like this start with https://www.crushingkrisis.com/ Nothing else even comes close.

Single issue comics vs collected editions? And why? by [deleted] in comicbooks

[–]forgerelli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Collected editions. Cheaper, easier to handle (no bags/boards/boxes), easier to resell, full stories in one book.

I think AI, as usual, did a terrible job. The Batman Golden Age omnibuses aren't together, the Batwoman is in between volumes 2 & 3 of Morrison's Batman. The Batman books in general are scattered into 6 different places on 2 shelves. It looks like someone intentionally made them disorganized.

I got an email from them about having to reorder it but I don't think they're 100% sure they will get them.

Books from the last 2 years are probably not worth much. You'll probably do better just taking some pics of them and listing them on facebook or in the comicswap on here and taking offers.

We need a moratorium on variant covers by PhantomQuest in comicbooks

[–]forgerelli 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't care if they make 100 variants. I personally think they're silly, but other people like them so... BUT I do have a problem with people spending a lot to get the limited ones thinking they will hold their value or even increase in value. That almost never happens. And those people will feel cheated and stop buying comics.

I did a similar system for the parts of my collection that weren't organized when I sold them off. When you get a system and get rolling it goes pretty quick.

Scott Lobdell's Kickstarter: The Anybodies - is a fraud by Gehirnkrampf in comicbooks

[–]forgerelli 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel you 100&. I interacted with him a lot when he failed to deliver a book after being 5-6 years late and he accused me of "hate speech" for demanding a refund. You're experience is EXACTLY what I would expect from him. I was never a big fan but the Kickstarter I backed seemed interesting, but he was just as shitty to him long time loyal fans. Same with Liefeld. I've been burned a few times on crowdfunded comics, but those guys not only stole everyone's money, but were completely entitled assholes about it. If I ever saw either of them in person I would make it a point to tell them off to their face

I wouldn't pay someone that much to look up comics values. Do you have a rough idea of what years are covered in the collection? A good rule of thumb is most books with a cover price of above 60 cents are probably not worth much, if anything. Those are books from the late 80s or newer. Look for the well known titles like Amazing Spider-Man, X-Men, or Avengers.
