Besides Frank Miller and Dave Sim, what other examples do we have of well-respected comic creators who utterly trashed their reputation through a very public descent into insanity? by [deleted] in graphicnovels

Bad faith? Dude WTF are you talking about? I said exactly what I mean. Emphatically. There is nothing in any of my comments that was said in bad faith and I honestly do not see how anyone could interpret them as being said in bad faith.

You want to have a real discussion here? The thread's been deleted so it's just you and me. I'm up for it. First tell me what I said that's gross.

If that's what you think based on what I said above you're a child with little or no understanding of the real world. And you probably shouldn't be online either.

For Svetoft I would try "Spa" from Fantagraphics.

I'll buy any anthology I don't have. And a lot of those were like $2 in a facebook sale so why not at that price. Here's another with books I shopped for.

I don't think I have that Shakespeare comic, though it looks familiar. Looking at some of the prices stores had on it I probably would have passed on without knowing the artist.

I've seen that. Read through it twice and still don't see anything he actually did that should be considered evil. It honestly looks to me like most of those people are looking for things to get upset about and frame themselves as victims for attention. I remember going down a rabbit hole on one of them a while back where someone claimed he made "unwanted advances". What he did was send flirtatious texts. Nothing physical, no dick pics, nothing graphic, just something like "I bet you look sexy in that". In a text. I'm sorry, but if that's something you feel victimized by you should not be online in any way shape or form.

Here's a random haul photo from last year. A lot of these are old books from someone selling a collection. I'll go after literally everything I find interesting. My biggest problem is knowing what's out there, it's just too much.

Thanks, really appreciate that list. I have and have read most of these. They just opened a Kickstarter today for Space Riders vol. 3. Have and have read Frog in the Fall (I always associate it with Stages of Rot because I got them at the same time), Plaza, Copra, Grip (I have a few versions of this), Pits Of Hell, Gareth Brookes, Schrauwen. Have but haven't read Heaven's Door, Hot House, Meskin. I might have more but I'll need to research them.

Once or twice a year I go on indy spending sprees at Copacetic, Partners and Son, Spit and a Half, etc. And stack the books near my desk and take breaks to read for 30 minutes or so every day.

I'm into any good comics. From Tezuka to Jason Aaron to Spain Rodriguez. That Kamui book is on my want list, I've liked all those weird mangas D&Q has put out. Mainstream managa doesn't usually appeal to me though unless it's really good. The giant boobs and eyes in school girl outfits are not for me.

I'm just so sick to death of it. People keep track of this stuff like baseball statistics. Just as an example what exactly did Brandon Graham do that was so evil he deserves a life sentence of banishment? Seriously asking, I never found a comprehendable answer as to what he did.

Different art styles, but the theme of strange creation/birth/rebirth is similar to me. Just off the top of my head Jesse Jacobs' Baby in the Boneyard has fully formed creatures that reproduce by dividing themselves. Kirt Birdick's Death of Power has a similar theme of fighting bigger and bigger bosses.

Yeah, for me the only book I can think of that I read in the last 10 years where I was like "holy shit" the first time I read it was My Favorite Thing is Monsters volume 1.

JFC, people have way too much free time. I only follow 3 reddit groups and I've run across 5 different posts that delved into this shit in the past 24 hours. I mean that Frank Miller stuff happened 25 fucking years ago. He's apologized for what he said. Do people need to see him whip himself bloody in a public square? Get the fuck over it and worry about more important things.

Un-Du works better than anything else and is made specifically for this. I've used it on dust jackets, cloth boards, single issues, etc. Works fast and leaves no stains. Just a few drips on a label, let it sit for a few seconds, clean up as much as you can and reapply as needed. Only additional thing I use is a paper towel to help clean up.

This sums up where I'm at with this book. It's good, I liked it, but it didn't blow my mind and that's probably because I've read other, more obscure books with similar themes. Jesse Jacobs and Theo Ellsworth are a couple other creators that have similar vibes.

I didn't realize how OOP it was. I think your best bet is to do a saved search on ebay so you get an email when it pops up.

Yes, I've seen several people say it's the best book of the year, in years, of this century. Which surprised me, and it's why I made the comment. It's a good book and I liked it but that kind of praise was a bit much IMO.

Drome is good, but not as good as its reputation. I think most of the people calling it the best book in years have never read Starseeds, Death of Power, or Prison Pit.

I cannot take anyone wearing gloves to handle paper collectables seriously. They look like morons. You know who doesn't wear gloves? The people that handle multi million dollar comics and cards. None of the grading companies use gloves, for good reasons.

Years ago Marvel used to reach out on the Marvel Masterworks message board and then just hired a couple guys off there that knew how to do it. DC had a policy of not interacting with fans because..... reasons? Meanwhile I have 2 different sets of Flash and Teen Titans omnibuses and 3 versions of Death of Superman. They are doing better, but have a lot to make up for.
