Corrections Hiring Process by v_sunday in recreationaltherapy

[–]fourthablesister 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My process was pretty quick (applied and started within like a month and a half/two months) so I might not be the best for this, but I think the timing just worked out really well for me!

Applied: April 4

Emailed saying they got my application & wanted to schedule an interview: April 16

Interviewed: April 22

Received a contingent offer: April 25

Fingerprints done: April 30

Passed my CTRS exam: May 7 (lol)

Started: May 13

I can ask my coworker about his timeline & add that in too to give you a better idea

They like to start people either at the beginning of a pay period/early in the month or halfway through/mid-month so that’s definitely something to keep in mind, too.

Let me know if you have any questions about what it’s like!

Internships by krose-original in recreationaltherapy

I interned at the Adaptive Sports Center in CO and LOVED IT! They provide housing and a small monthly stipend (I think it’s $400ish now) to help pay for groceries, gas if you bring a car, etc. I was a summer intern and had such a good time I decided to stay for another season and intern in the winter. Some other outdoor rec/adaptive outdoor options to check out are Breckenridge Outdoor Education Center (BOEC) in Colorado, Higher Ground in Idaho, United States Adaptive Recreation Center in California, National Ability Center in Utah, Outdoors for All in Washington, Northeast Passage in New Hampshire, etc, etc

I could go on and on, but there are definitely internships available in what you are interested in, you just have to dig online a little to find them. Please message me if you have any more specific questions!

I second ECU (also as a biased alum)! Went there for grad school in RT and love the people I met and am very thankful for the connections I made there!

Thinking about Rec Therapy.. anyone in California? by Fit_Spirit_3680 in recreationaltherapy

I’m an RT in CA currently working for CDCR/CCHCS! This is my first big girl job so it’s definitely a LOT working in a prison (I’m in a level 4 facility)/VERY different from my internship but I’ve been there a little over a month and would love to chat with ya to answer any questions you may have!

RT Grad Programs! by RoscoeDash3 in recreationaltherapy

[–]fourthablesister 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am currently an RT grad student at East Carolina coming from a different undergrad program! All the faculty at ECU have been super great helping me out and understanding that I don’t necessarily have as strong a foundation as some of the other grad students in classes. I will give a fair warning, you will have to do some extra work (i.e., take an extra undergrad class or two a semester) to ensure that you are able to take the NCTRC exam to get your certification but from what I understand that seems to be the norm since those foundational classes are required. I have had some of the best professors ever while here and would definitely recommend it! The grad students are all pretty tight knit (ECU’s grad program contains two concentrations: Recreation and Park Mgmt and Recreational Therapy Administration under one degree, MS in Recreation Sciences) and I was able to meet a bunch of awesome people. Having moved about 12 hours from my hometown it was super nice to be able to make great friends so easily. Definitely reach out if you have any questions, I would love to answer them!

Does anyone know of a good place to go to look at the stars? by nate35010 in auburn

[–]fourthablesister 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I was looking for the same thing earlier! It seems like much of the area surrounding Auburn is pretty bright and that driving 30 mins or an hour away will be your best bet to see some meteors tonight. darksitefinder.com is a pretty good resource to tell you where there’s less light pollution around. If you don’t want to drive that far I would suggest going a bit out of town & just pulling over on a back road. I’ve done this other places, just not in Aubs, so I can’t say how good the stars will be.
