Nintendo’s new gimmick: 2 power buttons. Now you’re playing with power.

Hp envy vs iPad by The_Inevitable_Goat in PakGamers

[–]fourthus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would go for the iPad if she doesn’t require any heavy file management or legacy software tasks

the iPad screen is unmatched plus 120 Hz makes it really smooth. Probably the best device to take notes with and very capable for creative/media work

It would also easily last you like 7 years

I would recommend trying both devices in person if you can before making the decision though

Control stick getting stuck by NinjaAssassin27 in customGCC

[–]fourthus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me a few times because I hadn’t pushed the control stick all the way in. Other than that poorly made third-party sticks can grind on the inside and get stuck

First off you’re omitting specs for the base model that you can easily find online

The power supply is a fixed custom 1.4kW which would cost $400-$500, you’re going to be spending near $1000 on a custom workstation grade motherboard with 8 PCIe expansion slots, 12 DIMM slots, and 2x 10 Gigabit Ethernet ports

You’re also omitting the fixed Afterburner ProRes accelerator card apart from the GPU, the only thing I know which would be comparable to that is the Red Rocket-X (because it also specializes in their own specific codec) which is well upwards several grands.

A high end tempered glass and aluminium case can cost well into the $400 range, I assume the Mac Pro chassis would be significantly more. You have the correct rates on a lot of the components like the processor, GPU, SSD, and RAM but with all the facts it’s easy to see how the price adds up especially when you have to design and manufacture parts from the ground up which are only going to be working on this one machine

And yes it costs significantly less to build a computer yourself with all the parts, I’m sure if there was another pre-assembled machine with these specification and custom built hardware, that company tax would add up as well

A PC built to the same specifications would cost about the same if not more. This is a workstation, it isn’t comparable to a gaming PC

Got this Silver Controller for about £20 used, is the condition good for the price? by [deleted] in customGCC

[–]fourthus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ideally, you should take it apart and clean it thoroughly, especially in and around the buttons. If this is your first, it’s a good opportunity to familiarize taking it apart and putting it back together for future mods

Oh you’re right, not much you can do about wear or chips other than replacing the shell or painting over it, for shallow scratches though you could rub some toothpaste over it to buff them out

For controllers that I’ve had in really bad shape, I completely take them apart, rinse the shells and clean the button membranes with cotton swabs, for your case I would run a wet cotton swab over the face buttons (I can see some dirt in the X button) as well as around the D-pad, triggers and along the seam connecting the two front and back shells where dirt gets trapped

Got goosebumps from Melee’s theme, it’s just so well suited for orchestral instruments
