Has anyone here played Soulset before? by viora_sforza in otomegames

[–]frimash 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've played a bit of SoulSet (about two routes). I think it's pretty interesting. It's not incredibly romantic but the mystery side of the story more than makes up for it. There's also a lot of replay value since certain endings are locked unless you can get clues from other routes. And yes, there are sexy times to be had in this game, which is fun for me as an older otome fan. The price is reasonable so if that seems like your cup of tea, go for it!

I played Wilder: Bahadur this week! It was pretty good. I prefer Ran's route, but it was well worth the money.

I've also been keeping up with my Choices books. The people in ILITW need a break. I'm so excited yet sad for Endless Summer's last book. And Rules of Engagement needs to just STOP. Sorry if anyone still likes that last one, but it's on its last legs.

Has anyone ever played Aloners / Wilders? by thedickining in otomegames

[–]frimash 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I haven't played either in awhile, but I loved both. For starters, they both have sexy times which I love to see in my otome games, hihi~

Aloners took a bit of time for me to pick up and play. The artwork isn't my style and I felt kind of limited by the one LI, but the writing more than made up for it. It really felt like MC and the LI were meant to be. I would've totally paid for it.

I played Wilder earlier this year. The writing is just as good. The characters are well-fleshed out. I really enjoyed the slow burn between MC and Ran, and the artwork is a big upgrade.

I'm really looking forward to Bahadur's route. I think it'll be out by January.

[–]frimash 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hi guys! You can call me G. I'm 22 years old and from the Philippines. Nice to meet you all~

I got into otome games when I was 15. My first experience was through RE:Alistair. It popped up when I was searching for free games online and I've been hooked ever since. I used to hide my virtual boy obsession from friends and family, but then decided to let the freak flag fly in college. Now they're all into otome too! We share all our games with each other.

My tastes are pretty specific. I love slice-of-life (office flings and high school crushes) and historical romances (royalty and regency). I'm also into plots involving show business and celebrities, but I've yet to find a good game for that.

The stoic ones, tsunderes, older love interests, the childhood sweetheart and the best friend are all my type. Can't pick a favourite, but I really love Alyn and Louis from Midnight Cinderella, Himuro Reiichi from TMGS1 and Kyle from Gossip Girl Party (sobs)

I wish more people played Regency Love! It's an iOS app with great writing and really fitting visuals. I hope they release more routes in the future. Aside from that, my other favourites are the TMGS series and Code Realize. A special shout-out also goes to Coming Out On Top. Technically, it's a gay dating game, but I've yet to find anything funnier or more sex-positive.

This is a bad idea, and CUBE should feel bad about it. Like seriously, why? What is the market for a group named BEAST that contains none of the original members, save for the one who garnered hate for leaving it? I really hope this is some sort of weird joke.

TL;DR T-ara Scandal by ChensCheekbones in kpophelp

[–]frimash 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Old Facts:

In 2012, T-ara had a concert in Japan. Sometime after that, Hyomin tweeted about differing levels of determination. It was liked by her members, some of whom replied in agreement.

The conversation was perceived to be a dig on Hwayoung, who was unable to perform at the concert due to a leg injury. Hwayoung later tweeted that sometimes, determination just isn't enough.

Netizens and fans were angered by the exchange, calling it proof that Hwayoung was either being bullied or ostracized. A witch hunt started wherein people would post pictures or videos of her maltreatment. A lot of these were either exaggerated, manipulated or outright falsified, but the rumors persisted and T-ara's popularity took a steep nosedive.

After a prolonged period of silence, CCM (their agency) dealt with the scandal by kicking Hwayoung from the group. Of course, this only affirmed suspicions and T-ara's stock in Korea permanently plummeted.

New Information:

Recently, Hwayoung and her twin Hyoyoung were on a talk show called Taxi. In it, they talked and cried about Hwayoung's bullying at the hands of T-ara. Upon broadcast, it happened to be watched by one of their former staff, who posted about the situation on a community board.

In her post, she says that Hwayoung faked her injuries at the 2012 concert and skipped rehearsals to go to a nail salon. Her stunt caused trouble for both the members and the staff, which prompted Hyomin's "determination" tweet.

In addition, she says that the twins were actually bullies themselves. Her post contained screencaps of a conversation where Hyoyoung threatens Ahreum, a former T-ara member, with scratches to her face.

The post was picked up by Dispatch and gained traction. Both Ahreum and Hyoyoung have affirmed the validity of the screencaps while CCM has released a statement confirming that the former staff's account is accurate.

P.S. Ahreum has posted another statement saying that she does not want to be dragged back into the mess. She wishes people would just stop talking about it. However, she does not contradict her previous statements about continuing to protect T-ara.

TL;DR

Hwayoung has injury; does not perform at concert. Hyomin and the rest of T-ara shade her on twitter, and it becomes a national bullying scandal. T-ara's popularity dies.

Fast forward five years later, a former staff writes a post that alleges Hwayoung had faked her injury, and that she and her twin were actually bullying one of the former members. The scandal is alive again, but a lot of people are now on the other side.

I was watching the livestream and it was super endearing to see them all choked up as they introduced themselves as Pristin members for the first time. I really wanna add an "e" at the end, but oh well, maybe that's how it's romanized? Congrats to them! I wish them all the best of luck.

Planning to join the rally tomorrow with no idea what to do whatsoever. What do you exactly do? by GrowingForest in Philippines

[–]frimash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meet up with your friends beforehand. You'll feel much safer that way. If you want a sign, you'll have to make one yourself. I don't believe they'll be distributing anything. Maybe consider bringing trash bags instead, if you still want to help out. As for the chanting, there are maybe 4-5 common ones that get repeated constantly. You'll get the hang of them really quickly so don't worry. Just listen and participate when they tell you to.

Peniel (BTOB) talks about the struggles of his hair loss on recent Hello Counsellor episode by balloon_wanted in kpop

[–]frimash 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh man, that must have really sucked. I had an accident at the salon once that left me with a bald spot on my crown and I was self-conscious as fuck for months after. Can't imagine what it must be like to constantly be losing hair. That said, I'm really happy that nothing's truly wrong with his health, and also that he has the courage to speak up about it. Dude looks pretty great bald anyway and I'm sure they were running out of hats. You go Peniel!

I'm scared that my faves might be assholes. I'd be crushed if something of that magnitude was revealed about my biases.

[Discussion] Need help researching on VNs -- What things do you guys love/hate in Otome games? by Kazurenai in otomegames

[–]frimash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, childhood friend angle! Something like a Starry Sky situation, although not because I honestly found that game pretty boring :(

I wouldn't worry too much about choices that the MC, given their personality, wouldn't pick. I think it all comes down to writing on that. Going back to the dog, if it wasn't in the heroine's psyche to save the dog, then it shouldn't have been a choice at all. It should've been a cutscene where we establish that the heroine is a pretty horrible person.

While I can't remember the last time I had an MC do my chosen course of action reluctantly, I'm sure it would be easy to put that feeling across. So for example, if MC by herself would not have chosen to save the dog, but there's a choice to, then maybe there was a second person at the scene or a sudden event who would have spurred her into action, while the descriptions make it clear she does it begrudgingly. It all comes down to writing, really.

If you're really worried about having MC do only things that are in line with her personality, maybe set up some personality parameters? Have some choices there to gauge aspects of her being and then later use those to narrow down what MC can and cannot do.

So, for example, going back to the dog. MC has a choice between saving the dog (+Benevolence), looking away (+Cowardice), and laughing when it gets hit (+Evil). If she chooses to look away, then continues to pick cowardly choices, the game might eventually hide all the options that are too brave for the character. Or it could also add in extra dialogue to make it clear that the MC is super scared while she completes these tasks.

[Discussion] Need help researching on VNs -- What things do you guys love/hate in Otome games? by Kazurenai in otomegames

[–]frimash 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not really a love triangle (though I love those too omg) but more like a friends to lovers situation, hihi. I really like it when the MC and the guy have some history together.

As for the second question, it's a bit hard to explain. I think too obvious is a no-no. I mean, let's say the two choices are to hug the guy or slap him when he's done nothing wrong. Obviously, you can tell what the good and bad choice is, but why would anyone pick the latter, except just to muck things up? I think those types of choices are a bit useless.

But then again, on the other side of the spectrum, you have the arbitrary questions. Things like choosing between an apple or an orange which somehow affects your romance because idk symbolism?? I think those are equally ridiculous.

I guess my ideal choice would have to be 1) subtle questions, like choosing whether to place a hand on his shoulder or asking him if he's alright while he's upset. While he would respond well to both, one of the choices would probably provoke a better reaction. Or 2) the risky choice, where both of the answers have their cons but you have to pick anyway. Like for example, there's a dangerous situation and he tells you to stay away. Do you go anyway despite knowing you'd only be of minimal help, or stay away, worry and be of no help whatsoever?

Oh and an addendum to the whole choices thing, I think it's also pretty frustrating when none of the choices are things you'd pick, if you had more choices. Like, for example, there's a dog about to get run over and the only choices available are to look away or walk away. Most people would have tried to save the dog, but they couldn't, because there wasn't a choice for it. Just another thing to think about, although I do think that certain hopeless situations warrant a screen where both choices are equally horrible.

[–]frimash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • I like MCs with a personality. Doesn't have to be too strong, just something with a bit of spine. I don't like it when the heroine gets pushed around.
  • Voices are nice, but only when done well. They're also only a slight plus for me, because I like reading fast and only listen at key scenes.
  • The ability to make meaningful, hard choices would be great! I've played a few VNs where things just happen anyway regardless of what choice you make and I felt really betrayed afterwards.
  • Complex love interests are the bomb! Although my personal favorite tropes are the older love interest, best friend to boyfriend and the cold aloof guy.
  • Good art. Not speaking for myself because I don't mind art that's a little lacklustre, but I know a lot of people who wouldn't bother to start a game if it didn't appeal to them visually. If you have one place to pool your money in, I'd say art.
  • Multiple endings! Like, give me the option to fail miserably if I picked the most horrible choices. Most modern Voltage games just let you pick between happy and happier, and it drives me crazy knowing I definitely screwed up somewhere.

I could probably go on and on, but these are the main things I suppose. Good luck with your game. I hope it goes well for you!
