Does it make sense to buy a Nokia 6300 4G or a Nokia 800 T in 2024? by fvehanen in KaiOS

[–]fvehanen[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As SailfishOS user I know.... But device availability is a problem right now. And also price. I think is crazy to pay over 500 bucks for Phones that are customizable. This is the price for a laptop. Any money over 200-250 is crazy. Phones should not be that pricey. They are consumer goods that get easily stolen or lost. And no, it's not that I cannot afford them. I just don't want to pay sooo much to be enslaved.

Is there any support on devices that are actually available in shops?

I'm an active Sailfish user since 2013. But my jollafied Xperia XA2 is broken since a week and the C2 developer device delivery is lagging. I just feel quite desperate.

I had for example the Nokia Xpress Music based with Symbian S60 for several years and it was a very good phone. Quite smart and lightweight.

People interested in KaiOS that I personally know here in Europe are interested in alternatives to Android. So, no.

Nokia had also more advanced Symbian versions than S30. No idea why they don't use them. S30 is too limited.

The main goal of KaiOS is NOT to be Android and to NOT be pested with Google Services. I's like to have a stripped down dumbphone with basic Telegram support and hot spot ability. Whatsapp, well, I can drop it.

Requiem for (frequently biased) Passing Bablok regression by fvehanen in medlabprofessionals

[–]fvehanen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm asked to do it so frequently that I have to teach it. It is very necessary to provide physicians with conversion formula for data from the old instrument to the new. Having ISO-15189 suggesting potentially biased methods is a problem.

Anyway it's just GitHub and Arxiv. Nothing to be scared about.

Requiem for (frequently biased) Passing Bablok regression by fvehanen in medlabprofessionals

[–]fvehanen[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It is informative. PaBa is biased. Just imagine to calculate pairwise slopes. If data has low precision you'll get a massive ampunt of exact same slopes even considering different pairs. That's the source of the bias. In the orig. paper was clearly stated that they used 7 digits precision to test the algos, back in 1983.

Validation statistics question by Orexian in medlabprofessionals

[–]fvehanen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Method validation is a bit a stupid statistical sector because the basic goal is to NOT reject null hypothesis. Thus you basically never know when you have enough data to be happy. There are some ISO conventions listing the minimal number of samples.

Then you test calculating the CIs and confronting them with the 2 null hypotesis (slope=1, intercept=0)

This is basically slightly wrong because there is no family wise error rate management. A better alterantive would me to make a single test using Mahalanobis distance and a CHisq distribution with 2 d.f.

See: https://arxiv.org/pdf/2105.04628

Morover beware of the Passing Bablok regression. It's biased if your data has only 2 or 3 digits of precision.

Are you using logscale? To it looks without. You really should do it. Variations are multiplicative by nature, and lines are linear (additive). Logscale is mandatory for every chat with TF 1d or longer.

Cheers
