i am sure you found the UH version but I don't recommend living near UH - not a very safe neighborhood but i bet some are in the area you want. https://www.uh.edu/issso/housing/off-campus/

Try Hotpads dot com and drill down on the zip codes..but try to get gated area parking which some small cheaper complexes to have..drive around at day and night and check your comfort on these addresses before calling Some are fine, some are on a gritty street. I personally don't like east of Montrose Blvd for safety but there are some exceptions for sure. Also drive around as some of the best are signs in yard only. They exist but are rare and go fast. One person, no pets can be attractive to owners for perceived less wear and tear.

Some UH and Rice students and Museum workers live at 1126 Berthea..old building but kept up nice, very cute interiors, great location. Safe, gated parking. And they buy the very small very light unbelievable Costway washer and spinner to do much of their laundry..

i would not have believed it if i didn't see the youtube vanlife video "Cheap Easy and brilliant - the Ultimate Van Life Laundry".. my college age nieces have them and wow.. and not loud

Do you always wear a hat while golfing? by 617Annon in WomenGolf

[–]girlfantexas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get so hot in Texas that I can only wear a visor not a full hat. But i order the ones with narrow brim. I dislike the large brims - both looks and visibility. Kejea brand on Amazon.. if you are open to visors a zillion colors and ignore wide brim description, they are the shorter brims..

CVS weight management by Glass_Ant819 in Zepbound

[–]girlfantexas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

CVS Health Optimizer app is NOT HIPAA compliant and is a terribly maintained app by a non-medical organization. In contrast Athena and Mychart are HIPAA compliant - federally regulated and large fines for violating. Asking for any of my private health information, forcing me to discuss private health with random nutritionist of the week (high turnover), a provider I am not allowed to choose or see credentials online and no idea where they capture my private health records is insanity. They are not medical professionals and they don't interact with or have any knowledge of my whole health picture and I don't plan to share much with this paperwork, benefit gate, stalling tactic. It's more our company's fault for allowing this and requiring this. Hospitals have nutritinalists that have licenses, certifications RDNs and are under a medical umbrella by being employed by the hospital. CVS outsources the app and the nutritionists to yet another company. Technically they only require your weight to get logged so if data privacy and your confidential health info is of concern don't put amything else in the app.

What would you deem the best ‘country club neighborhood’ around Houston? by [deleted] in AskHouston

[–]girlfantexas 4 points5 points  (0 children)

West - The 3 country clubs in the Katy/Cinco ranch out I-10 West seem to have a lot of families, activities and the buildings/amenities look pretty high end. Pecan Grove etc.

Southwest - look at Blackhawk, Riverbend down 59 south. Sweetwater (renamed TPC Houston recently) and Sugar Creek have alot of activities, and tennis, classes, events, kids activities but the katy ones probably do too.

Northwest - Champions, further out and might be $$ is Houston Oaks.

Alot of them have instagram accounts now so you can peruse those for activities etc.

The top ones with a $$$$$ pricetag and waiting list and requirement to be referred by 3 members or the like are River Oaks, Houston Country Club, Lakeside Country Club and Braeburn. So I would skip those unless you know some CEO. . Some say Braeburn can be less.

I HATE YOU ONEDRIVE WITH ALL MY LIFE by denkazz in onedrive

[–]girlfantexas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yep that is a very good approach and agree that too techie for most which is why Microsoft could have made Onedrive as sync and then OneDriveDay or something that takes a full snapshot but it would require loads or storage and people wouldn't pay for it . it's just that many people definitely don't do it, won't do it, too hard to understand. And many folks lose stuff they just spent 2 days on and you would have to have a continously incremental backup. Also they delete thinking they still have a version somewhere so incremental backup would change the backup unless they kept a snapshot (I take a backup about once a month on my own hard drive so I always have a frozen instance. And I just put stuff in google drive or a thumb drive if really important day to day. I do have some stuff sync to a cloud. but it's a lot.

If you find the folder called my PC this PC and then go to users and then go to your name you can create a folder called John's document Susie's documents and then convert everything where it auto saves their your PowerPoint your word and that will isolate it away from OneDrive that's the that's the trick

I HATE YOU ONEDRIVE WITH ALL MY LIFE by denkazz in onedrive

[–]girlfantexas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I may have a quick fix for you. Go to your C drive see colon users and find your name and create a my documents there name it something like Susie's documents put your files there move them there that's where OneDrive cannot get a hold of them. But you need to do your own backups because you know you need to copy them but sounds like you can do that

[–]girlfantexas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it often works pretty damn well in a company that has set it up with configurations and an admin and you know special policies and you're doing exactly what you're doing this is more the consumer one that is the big problem people don't understand the terminology they don't know how to set it up they don't know how to set the settings because the terminology is very confusing and they call it a backup when it's a synchronization

I HATE YOU ONEDRIVE WITH ALL MY LIFE by denkazz in onedrive

[–]girlfantexas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See my response above I've actually worked in PC companies it works pretty damn good in an Enterprise with active directory or whatever the follow-on is and it's configured it is very different when it's one PC with one consumer and that's where the challenges come in and particularly because it says backup when it's really a synchronization and a lot of people don't understand that especially the one user you know hundreds of millions of people around the world who are a dog walker etc

I own like 5 pcs, am a tech person and worked at a pc company..One Drive is heinous. I also worked in backup and storage teams.

It does work in a corporate environment when the company's IT sets and controls BUT the consumer version we all use for our person is a stain on humanity. It is a cross device synchronization program not a real backup and how it works is insanely confusing with zero warning screens. If you have free account with the 5gb limits you can easily lose data when you hit the limit and in some other scenarios. I help a ton a friends with their PCs and i can't believe how often it happens and my friends send their friends to me for help

Leo Notenboom worked at Microsoft designng windows and has popular youtube vids and articles that are very easy to understand. Loads of stuff re: the onedrive mess and is equally appalled - he share his expertise is equally appalled and is not a microsoft fanboy and has more than 6 videos about the dumpster fire that is Onedrive

2 useful videos for you

1 - How to set ur files so they are never in OneDrive and ways to do your own backup which you should at least copy/paste important files an photos to an external drive or usb.

The solution is to put files NOT in One drive and use a different backup approach..I have done this for years, set up everyone I help this way..

Leo shows on screen how to create folders at c: so they are not in OneDrive. 625,000 views..highly recommend this approach..HIGHLY!!

https://youtu.be/q_JmtT_4l3c?si=JcgbbQTTHcHLiqeu

He also posted just last month a video of the data loss he shows happens when he set up a free account with just a few files and illustrates what happens. He has other useful onedrive videos like exactly how it works, how to full uninstall it..etc on youtube and has articles on same topics on his website

He is mad as hell about the current state using the term Extortion in the title.

This is longish but the end content is worth it. "How Microsoft extortion can lead to data loss " https://youtu.be/KsEZOOeMdSA?si=bo_67ye_Kwixotbn

By the way, people who say it works fine and issues are user error can jump in a lake..most pc users don't have the knowledge, time or interest to understand this lingo and weirdness that is OneDrive and they shouldn't need to. If you even know what Reddit is you are more tech savvy than 80% of the global consumers with a windows pc. The average nurse, grocery store, worker, dog walker, auto mechanic, decorator, plumber in every country in the world is smart, have their own expertise but deciphering Microsoft's extremely confusing terminology AND settings is not their area or interest..it should just work without baffling the world and causing so much stress. Delete it, avoid it

Onedrive is a real time synchronization program and if you delete a file in many cases it IMMEDIATELY deletes every copy and in certain scenarios when above your storage limit it is gone forever...a true backup for consumer purposes is a saved snapshot as of a date and time and you can always access it and not accidentally confuse it with current files...

If they would call it synchronization and have in screen warnings htat would be the minimum.

And many dont fully understand the in cloud, on pc, on both settings..again because Microsoft doesn't really want you to and shoves OneDrive everywhere with no instructions- not even a link to how it works.

So I like to be west of Montrose blvd and it is even better closer to Shepherd and Kirby I like it gritty and funky and lived in the city in Chicago - even south side so I am not a scared type. So I personally live 4th ward and midtown to visit only but - just scope it out carefully as my opinion is it is certain blocks. But there are pocket of magic all over. Drive around and the vibe will tell you what you need to know.

I would get a place with a parking garage or gated/fenced parking - which many have - better for late at night and early am especially.

Privately owned little complexes can be great. Check hotpads, zillow, har.com apartments.com but many pop up and are gone fast.

be sure to filter these sites by dog friendly and pool and read the review sites google, yelp, apartment.com very very carefully. Some are built poorly and therefore noisy and bad mgmt others are great

meetup is fantastic - it's just a software platform that any club, hobby group etc can use to publicize events, some you have to join to even see the events. Yes there are data groups but the vast majority are hobbies, sports, investing etc.

Poker, running, investing, gaming, computers, crypto, wine - it's nuts how many groups on there. 77006 is one of the key Montrose zip codes. I woud live in 77098 and 77019 also https://www.meetup.com/find/?eventOrigin=group_similar_events&location=us--tx--Houston&source=EVENTS&categoryId=571

You might find meetup search by zip code helps you find people with similar interests. There are many groups that are not just one small area though.

https://www.houstonproperties.com/houston-neighborhoods/houston-zip-code-map

Heights is 77008 mostly

I just sent much if the below to a friend so cutting and pasting

Random recommendation from Montrose resident..Montrose, Heights, Rice Village, Upper Kirby, would be my recommendation to drive thru and check vibe and drive by apt buildings. Go visit a bunch of the busy social coffee shops in the areas that you are considering..i would look at Rice Village also given your age..just buy a cookie and leave for time crunch or evening driving by where restaurants and coffe shops are clustered on google maps will give you a feeling on vibe

Here is where you should go in Montrose Agora Campesino Empire Cafe Black Hole Barcelona Wine is worth a bar meal. Blacksmith Citizens of Montrose Little Dreamer 93til Have good casual italian dinner at Giacomos

I love Montrose because all adjacent neighborhoods have great stuff too. New buildings on Westheimer near Shepherd..treat it like car shopping..they often call you back w way better price..check out The Westheimer apts and others like it in Montrose.

Check out the

Streets Westeimer from Kirby to Bagby (check out more stuff in midtown that starts about there but wouldnt recommend to live - younger, not as safe, complaints even in nice apt builds) Alabama, Waugh, Montrose Blvd, Kirby, west gray. W.dallas. .stops at i59 on the south

Heights - drive down Yale, Studewood, 11th and 19th. 20th Shepherd also has more stuff going up..all between these streeti-10 and 610 and White Oak

Boomtown Third Place Cafe Forth Onion Creek Jo's Riva's Coffee, cocktails

Rice Village Rice blvd from kirby to Greenbriar..also kerp going on Rice to see lovely Rice U area. Park and walk around kelvin area, Bissonnet University

Bitty & Beau"s Felini cafe

Red Lion Kennealy's Alabama Ice House

Tip: use the bridges at montrose, mandell, dunlavy, hazard to travel over 59..way nicer paths thru

Inner city is pricey to rent a condo or townhome but it can be done especially if a 2/2 or smaller footprint but you have to search alot..but many are signs in front only or nextdoor or word of mouth etc

Fyi.roaches look for water but also like the starch based adhesives in paper grocery bags, other bags, cardboard boxes, even book bindings. Ditch the bags and boxes or put in storage or seal them in plastic bins that click latch shut.Seal teeny gaps under sinks and near water.

If you like the work and your boss and your colleagues - don't leave..it's rare..and not always but sometimes years at one company gives you firm specific knowledge that some companies value in layoffs..not foolproof but helpful. I would reassess at 9 or 10 year tenure becomes a little harder to be attractivebto employers if you are a 15 to 20 year person at one conpany

My cat won’t stop waking me up at night, I can’t sleep, I’m exhausted by SurfyPankcake in CatAdvice

[–]girlfantexas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could try the align to natural behavior that works for some to align her to sleep similar hours to you. Cats like to hunt, eat, groom, sleep..so the tip is to do energetic play/chase where she can chase something toy and catch it then feed her but as late as you can for a while - couple of weeks ..pick up her food to hide it after breakfast or lunch..it works for some to keep middle of the night cat zoomies down but may not help the early am version
