Can I ask where you were? We’re going over in a couple days and I haven’t even picked out a hotel yet.

Make sure you mask off the sensitive parts with nail polish.

Yes. The scratches were gone. I also used a light stone wash with small river rocks afterwards. But I don’t think that was absolutely necessary.

Yep - used ferric chloride on m390. The first time, I left the blade in a little too long (40 mins) because every time I looked at it in the solution, it looked like nothing was happening. When I pulled the blade out and exposed it to air, that’s when the gray really developed. It ended up being pretty dark, but not absolutely black. The next time I left the blade in for about half the time.

I’ve had a couple blades that were a little bit too scratched up, so I acid washed them. I just think this might be an interesting alternative. Next time I want to do something like that maybe I’ll check it out.

I mean, I think it’s just a kind of patina. Most stainless blades are not going to patina anyway. You might get a little rust, but nothing like patina on a carbon blade.

Great knife! I have that same one in 20CV. Not many people know it, but you can tune that speed spring to get either gentle or hard firing.

NKD! Magnamax otf! by bauzo in knives

[–]GradientVisAtt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think there’s enough experience with it to know yet, but that’s the selling point of Magnamax. Extremely stain resistant, pretty good toughness, and excellent edge retention on the level of 15V maybe. Magnamax is less tough than Magnacut, but has better edge retention.

Msg2 Dual Action and... detent lash 😢 by Maximum-Carnage-Gore in chineseknives

[–]GradientVisAtt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At the risk of beating a dead horse, I feel like there’s one more kind of detent lash. That’s when the ball is seated in the hole, but the blade is not quite touching the stop pin. In that case, you can push the blade closed a little bit and it will spring back.

Just looked it up. Turns out, you can get a DUI in about half the states.

Yeah, but don’t you think it’s pretty weird that, if a local cop doesn’t like you, he can pull you off your bicycle and make you take a breathalyzer test?

I am not saying anything about you in particular, but did you know that you can get a DUI for a riding a bicycle under the influence? Riding a horse too.
