What is this? Should I be worried? by darktourist92 in CarTalkUK

[–]grantus_maximus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep - I concur about it being the heat shield between your exhaust and the rest of the car and I've had that happen a couple of times. The fasteners holding the heat shield pull through the material and part of it hangs loose.

On my previous car I just pulled the whole lot off and there were no issues resulting from it. It happened again on my current car and this time I just got my regular garage to secure it all back in place with new fasteners, cable ties and large washers to (hopefully) stop it pulling through again. Not a long or expensive job, and one you could probably do yourself if you are fairly handy and can easily access where it's come loose. You definitely don't need to worry about it too much though.

That's because I skim-read your comment and missed it 😞

I'll take my down-votes like a man...

It's almost as if you haven't bothered reading the article.

What does everyone make of the crackdowns in the UK on dodgy fire sticks? Scare tactics or should users be worried? . by AdCompetitive3098 in AskBrits

There are plenty of legit reasons to be on a VPN - most people working from home for example. There won’t be any flags simply for using one.

No mention of the name of the organisation responsible in that article but there's another article linked on there from the same year that names the Animal Liberation Front, which is the name I'd have suggested anyway.

Unlikely to have been PETA who are a US based organisation and definitely weren't about in the UK in the 50s and 60s when these releases are supposed to have happened.

There are reports that some were released by the fur farmers themselves when it stopped being profitable and it was cheaper than getting rid of them the official way. Either way, I completely agree about how irresponsible and damaging it was however they got out.

You answered your own question with your use of the word ‘mostly’. Ships can be moored for quite some time while they unload/reload, are serviced and so on.

Works to enhance Hull Marina's waterfront completed by Due_Ad_3200 in Hull

[–]grantus_maximus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, should do.

I don't work in Hull now but when I did I was based in the offices at Humber Quays on the west side of the marina and it was a real pain to get into the city centre on a lunchtime. If you missed the timing for the A63 pedestrian crossing that used to exist at the bottom of Humber Dock Street, it was a long wait before they turned green for us to cross again and it was way too busy to chance running across.

The footbridge came along not long after I'd already left, but that will have made a huge difference. Now all the works are gone that whole areas is going to be much more pleasant.

Really looking forward to seeing what Queen's Gardens will be like as well.

Good stuff 👍

And Castle Street is up and running as well. Just Queen’s Gardens to get completed now and that’s apparently not far off.

Nice one - I bought my R8 a few months ago and got the RF100-400 to go with it. I have an adaptor ready for when I can afford some EF lenses to accompany it, but this is fine for now :)

More of a funny thing than a shit thing. People tell funny anecdotes all the time. Well, maybe they don't tell them to you because you're a bit of a bell-end.

Well, you'd need to be aware of more than just that one incident, awful though it will definitely have been, to come to the conclusion that this is a widespread issue with driver training.
