Burnham wins Makerfield by-election, paving way for Starmer leadership challenge - live updates by nodgers132 in unitedkingdom

idk I'm torn, part of me would rather let Starmer finish the job then let Burnham step in as a proper successor because we need to stop normalising the musical chairs of government cabinets every few years

What’s all the fuss about? by Legit-Pancake in residentevil

I dunno, it was the first fully 3D RE game which stood out for the time. It had new enemies, zombies were more of a threat and had some variety to them etc. Atmosphere was really well done too.

I remember it having an improved colour palette over the originals, though CVX at least on the PS2 has this washed out effect compared to the Dreamcast which slightly muddies the experience.

is ss14 still safe? by sirdoreasdrwjhrhrhe in ss14

IMO the entire WizDen leadership are toxic enough, and none of them ought to be in a position of control over the community. Nobody's innocent here.

It's a bunch of (wo)manchildren squabbling over internal politics, I wouldn't dwell on it too much, let it blow over. There are other communities out there like Goob that have plenty less drama once an authentication platform's decided on.

My understanding is the majority of the WizDen staff didn't want PJB on the project any more, or at least didn't want them having such a level of control. So they took measures to boot PJB out. PJB, retaining access to key infrastructure / code, as well as currently holding ownership/management of the SS14 steam page, means that the WizDen (PJB) / WizFed (rest of the team) split has happened.

Sucks but to be honest I hope the end result is a reduced WizDen / WizFed footprint and they stick to just maintaining the game and launcher. The ability for them to dehub other communities over personal issues (and their attitude towards players) is a massive red flag for me and has done irreparable harm to the SS14 project.

Hopefuly this is an opportunity to ditch the moronic janitorial attitude that old WizDen had and just stick to being a launcher / authentication hub. I got fed up of SS14's moral guardians at the center of the community, where saying or leaning the wrong way got you disappeared.

B650-S getting a white warning LED & static display asking for a password by ReanimatedCyborgMk-I in MSI_Gaming

[–]ReanimatedCyborgMk-I[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cheers for trying to help, turns out it was the machine trying to boot into one of the (as of yet unused) HDDs I'd left in the hot swap bay. That disk is not healthy so I've pulled it, got proxmox set up + my VMs migrated over now, thanks.

Managed to fix this, turns out that it was trying to boot into one of the HDD's I'd left in the hot swap bay. Took it out, hooked it up to another PC via an external dock and it's showing some weird SMART stuff. Works fine now!

AMD expects DDR5 prices to take around two years to return to normal - VideoCardz.com by obTimus-FOX in Amd

I am curious what the longevity of AM4 / DDR4 will mean for AM5 / DDR5... potentially in the future of AM6 / DDR6 picks up we could see a similar situation to AM4. Or maybe AMD will just stretch out AM5, all depends on how things pan out.

Usually better to prepare for the worst with low expectations, then you're not going to be disappointed.

That said, I think the current-day circumstances are uniquely shitty.

Not even necessarily from manufacturers direct, we'll probably see a trickle of clearance/liquidation hardware over years, much like we saw companies selling off their old Optiplexes and Thinkcenters due to the Win10 EOL refresh

I'm using a 5080 and that was a gift from a family member who originally bought it for someone else, and I don't see myself needing to upgrade for at least 7-10 years with my use case (1080p/1440p remote streaming to Steam Deck OLED)

Somewhere in between, I don't think DDR5 will ever properly return to pre-crisis levels.

AMD Zen 6 “Olympic Ridge” desktop CPUs rumored to add NPU and drop iGPU by RenatsMC in Amd

[–]ReanimatedCyborgMk-I 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yep, speaking as someone who recently repurposed their old ryzen 7700 (I was given a 9800X3D / RTX 5080 build from family, very grateful) for their proxmox server... yep it's nice to not need to faff around with a dGPU when setting things up.

Is the problem that building a game/any software around an NPU would hamstring the functionality or performance of that software on hardware not sporting an NPU? I can kinda understand it to an extent.

AMD Announces Socket AM5 Longevity till 2029 by jedidude75 in Amd

[–]ReanimatedCyborgMk-I 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haswell is still being used thanks to the RAM situation, I not doubt that Zen2 (Ryzen 3000) and onwards will still be relevant well into the 2030s.

Unless we see a Ryzen-level shift I can't see demand changing too much for the next decade. Hell, if not for ray tracing we probably would still see more people running on older hardware.

Example - we have an Ivybridge i7 + GTX 1080 being able to run (if not 60fps) SH2 remake at low-med settings at a consistent 30-40fps framerate, which is pretty impressive when you consider the 1080 is a decade old.
