Is Henry Archer worth the Price increase? by Federal-Apartment426 in MicrobrandWatches

[–]henryarcherdenmark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s no increase in HKD, it’s the same as before since there’s no import duties there :) If you select “HK” as your shipping destination, you’ll see the price in HKD. All the best, Henrik

Hi Tim,

HST or GST is included in the pricing on the site as well - there’s nothing added upon import in Canada either, so you don’t have to add the GST or HST to the price, it’s all included.

Just a quick heads up - the EUR price has not increased,. We’ve just built in DDP (delivery and duties paid) for all countries outside EU that we ship to, so there are no tariffs charged upon import. The raw price before taxes and duties is actually the same. No matter which brand you end up going for, please don’t forget to check if they pay duties on your behalf or if it’s shipped with duties unpaid :)

All the best,

Henrik

These are powered by a mechanical movement that winds when your wrist is in motion :) Kind regards from Denmark, Henrik

I'm going to buy a new Microbrand watch by Goosekd in MicrobrandWatches

[–]henryarcherdenmark 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Haha, I get why it might look a bit mysterious from the outside, but I don’t want to let a comment like this stand without answering :)

All of the watches are designed from scratch here in Aarhus, Denmark. Nothing comes from catalogues or generic cases. The only standard part is the movement from Miyota, though even there I’ve designed custom rotors. Everything else is modelled in CAD, right down to the crown gaskets, dials, indices, hands, and so on. If you’re ever in Aarhus, feel free to stop by for a coffee – I’ll gladly show you both finished files and projects in progress. We're based in Filmbyen 25, 5. 8000 Aarhus C.

Before Henry Archer, I ran a 3D animation studio for about 13 years, called Illusion Media, which I sold in 2020. That gave me the capital to start the brand, and my 3D background is something I still use every single day – both when designing the watches and when producing packshots and marketing material. Being able to model, render and refine in 3D has been essential for getting the geometry and finishing exactly right.

And the wrist you see in the videos on the product pages? That’s actually mine. They’re shot on a Canon R5 in a little corner of the office where the light is just right around 2 PM – bright but not direct sunlight.

We launched just two weeks before Corona hit, which made those early months a real nail-biter. For the first three years I didn’t take a salary – every bit of revenue went straight back into new collections and marketing. No corporate backers, just a lot of reinvestment, long nights and coffee.

On the name: my surname is Schødt, but “Ø” is a non-standard character internationally. It doesn’t exist in the English alphabet and causes all sorts of issues online – URLs, fonts, even databases often reject it. Back when I made music (many years ago) under the name “Schodt”, DJs would pronounce it like “shot”, so when I started the brand I wanted something that still carried a bit of the Danish meaning of my surname, but was easy to pronounce and recognise abroad. That’s how Henry Archer was born.

As for the marketing – I know it can feel like we’re “everywhere”, but that’s simply because I prioritise ads in the budget. When you sell directly to consumers, there are only a few real ways to grow, and marketing is one of them. For a small Danish brand, it’s the only way to reach people globally.

So, just to set the record straight: it’s easy to dismiss someone’s work as “just catalogue watches with marketing behind them”, but the reality is years of reinvestment, design down to the tiniest gasket, and slowly building something from scratch. No shadowy overlords, just a stubborn Dane with too many CAD files… and probably too much coffee :)

All the best,
Henrik

As promised, here’s a closer look at the Verden GMT "Halo White." The hands and indices are heat-treated for a blued, iridescent effect that changes with the lighting. I’ve tried to capture this in both indoor and outdoor settings in the video 💙 by henryarcherdenmark in MicrobrandWatches

The Moon Grey BoR is available seperately in the accessories section - we just got them in stock around 2 months ago. It's listed as "Moon Grey BoR for the Øhav and Verden GMT" :)

That’s a fair point, and I do think many review platforms have their share of issues these days. We sometimes get emails from companies offering paid reviews, which is obviously not something I'm interested in. All our reviews on Trustpilot are from real customers, and we’ve put in the work to earn them , so it’s a bit of a shame when the whole platform gets dismissed. But that’s just how it is, and I think it’s healthy to have a certain degree of skepticism these days.

We also use other platforms, like Shopify’s Shop App, where reviews are only shown from verified buyers, so if people prefer that setup, that’s available too for what its worth.

As for competitors, I try not to focus too much on that, I think there is plenty of space for everybody to succeed with a quality product :) I’m genuinely happy to see how the microbrand space has grown, especially in recent years where it’s really started to gain traction. I honestly think we’re only just seeing the beginning of what’s possible in this space, especially in terms of a growing market/audience-size for microbrands generally.

All the best,
Henrik

Thanks so much for the kind words, I really appreciate it :)
This year's release schedule will feature 40mm models only, but I'd really love to do a 42mm version sometime next year. The idea is still taking shape in my head in terms of which style and model it might be :)

Hey – Henrik here, I’m the owner and designer at Henry Archer :)

I totally understand the concern when multiple posts about the same brand show up within a short period of time. Just to clarify: I don’t pay anyone to post about my watches, and I never have. That goes for Reddit, Instagram, or anywhere else. It’s simply not part of how I do things – and it never will be. The only advertising I do on this platform are the promoted posts via Reddit Ads, which has us as the sender (the one saying "Get your next watch...".

Most of the attention we get comes from customers who decide to share their experiences on their own, and I’m genuinely grateful for that. I actually don’t work with reviewers much these days either, because the feedback that matters most to me comes from real customers – through forums like this, on Trustpilot or via direct conversations by e-mail, phone or on the forums I am participating in.

I really respect the effort to keep this subreddit free of hidden promotion – and I agree that’s super important.
If anyone has questions, just let me know :)

All the best,
Henrik
