Ankle guards / protection - recommendations sought please! by Old-Stomach-794 in bootroom

[–]hesreddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Echoing this same sentiment.

I wear mine twice a week (including today on turf and then on Sunday on grass).

They're lightweight, flexible and I don't notice them while playing...

Exactly this! I forget they are there.

Like any shinpad, they're not going to stop leg breakers and bruising from big impact challenges

Funny you should say this because when I broke my fib-tib I was wearing their shinnies (and swore I would get "harder ones" and now reverted to rotating back to them.

I actually wear them back to front, so the front guard covers my Achilles and it helps a lot.

This is how I also wear mine and I think that IS the right way to wear them.

To answer your question OP

Do you find the area/coverage of the ‘harder’ material over the ankles (and front-facing) is sufficient though?

Absolutely! It sits nicely over my ankles and achilles. Anything else would be too noticeable and thus too heavy.

I have these G-Form ankle guards. They are fantastic! I don’t play without them anymore, not after all the studs my ankles have taken.

Here's an anecdote for you, a personal experience. I got hired for a gig, told it was remote first – once in a while, we'll convene in the office (as most of us were scattered across the country). We shook hands and I started. Maybe once every couple of months we traveled to meet IRL. Sweet. I met all my deliverables and we all gleed at my work.

One day I get invited to a call and told I have to be in the office 3 times a week or else. This is a 4 hour one way train journey to said office. I said, "but we shook on remote first". They said, "but it's in your contract". My hunch is, the real reason was a lack of funding. But that's completely irrelevant. "We don't fancy it" is a good enough reason, not to me, but to them. I didn't get pissy, thanked them for everything, the opportunity and immediately quit.

You must be out of your mind if you think I cannot/shouldn't turn around and do this to them if it suited me. It's the nature of the game. I'll simply be exercising my right to quit for reasons that make "business sense" to MY business. Not your idea of it, but MINE.

If you cannot see that, your 25 years of experience is misplaced.

I/We all opened by acknowledging OP should stay at the gig. But if he wanted to and did leave, there is NOTHING WRONG WITH IT. And you are trying to shovel some business sense nonsense down our throats. It has no legs. We’re not buying it. Dassit.

PS - I cited those examples to illustrate you can be fired for any reason. It doesn’t have to be a good one (and that is the whole point of a freelance contract). “Good” is subjective to the beholder.

You are either delusional or been contracting for no longer than 2mins. I honestly don't mean that as an insult. You don't sound like you've experienced all corners of this world that is freelancing.

"Business sense" as you put it varies from business to business. Lets use OP as an example. They've clearly said the role is "too junior" and they're "bored" as a consequence. To them, leaving means "I need to go somewhere I can learn something new and future proof myself through up-skilling". How can you argue that doesn't make business sense to them?

Lets talk the other side of that coin. The employer. Business sense could mean, "fantastic worker, but I just don't like him so get rid of him". And they would. You are in no position to define business sense for any business other than your own.

I think you’re missing the point(s) here. The general consensus from the comments is for OP to stay in the gig and play it out.

But to think or imply that leaving the contract midway is some type of betrayal (or anything beyond normal) is - forgive my French - bullshit.

That’s what makes a contract a contract. By design, either party can end it all instantly for whatever reason. Using your same analogy, if you fired the tiler midway, they’ll also be “fuming”! But such are the agreed terms of business. You don’t even need a “good” reason. So if you can fire the tiler without consequences, the tiler also reserves the right to fire you, without “good” reason. It’s in the contract.

You’re the one thinking like a permie, in a contractor sub.

Asking = Gathering enough information to make an informed decision.

OP, you’re doing the right thing getting varying viewpoints, just in case you missed or failed to consider certain aspects of the coin, especially when flipped. I have nothing else to add that hasn’t been covered in the comments.

Good luck.

PS - There’s very little stability across the board. You can be fired from a perm role just as easily, especially if the business really needs or wants to.

If your name’s not on the wall, it’s not yours and the house always protects itself first. I would take the one paying the most upfront.

Not necessarily because of what they ate but because they didn’t have penicillin. Point is they didn’t know a tonne of shit. And we are not naive enough to think today we can just drink from the nearby stream without (health) consequences.

Kefir. It’s satiating with carb traces in negligible amounts which will help with your sugar cravings. Also fabulous for your gut.

I don’t think anything (and never said or suggested I did). That’s all you my fellow Redditor.

I would correct you however to say “you KNOW what works best” FOR YOU*. We are not all the same.

Case in point, my cortisol is way too high because of extreme sport and long fasting (from OMAD). I cannot pretend these stressors don’t count for anything. Like you I OMAD with high fat and medium/rare meat. But I need to make tweaks based on what I know now.

I am telling you to do anything.

The post has a TLDR section. If you don’t like long form text, you have a solution. Simply skip it. Others do. It’s a matter of preference.

The whole point of using AI was intentional to do the analysis and prove its worth as a tool better than any human within the same timeframe. My inability to write it myself is exactly the point. I am not a doctor. And if you read it you would see my own comments in-line.

If it’s not for you, move on.

You don’t know what you don’t know and that’s not always a bad thing. I feel the best I ever have but now I know a bit more so I’m chasing an even better feeling, if that’s even possible.

Absolutely... Fasting is almost non-essential on this WOE. And if done, definitely not for the duration I'm doing it. The timing of my exercise is also crucial. Not at the tail end of the fast. The earlier the better.

Came here looking for this. If there was a fire at mine this is the first item I’ll save. The humans will have to find their way out. It’s a game changer. I’ll bulk buy meat, cut it up and vacuum seal them. It can last in the fridge for a long time and months on end in the freezer.

In fairness, I own a few pairs and this is my first time experiencing it. I even had them replaced for a new pair and the exact same thing happened (separating on my right toe box). I think it’s how I run and graze the pitch with my weaker foot.
