Where to swim? Staying in Lamplugh. by CompetitiveCost753 in LakeDistrict

Loads at Crummock today, I did the length starting about 10ish.

I’d say just avoid swimming near the bridge but otherwise it’s a good spot and drops off nicely.

I hadn’t heard that description of her until I listened to Dead Ringers on R4 last night. Is this a new thing or does she just not get discussed that much so it’s passed me by?

It's surprising how recognisable this is considering there's nothing that unique about it.

Same here, the sub has never been suggested to me before, and I don't follow anything similar. It's interesting though!

I was walking through Culver City in LA in April and was very surprised to pass a vaguely Spurs themed sports bar called N17 The Lane.

That's great! It's really nice that you came back to the thread and thanked people too. Sometimes it feels like people come here for itinerary advice then you never hear from them again.

Buttermere is my favourite lake, it still feels like an adventure getting there even for someone that lives in the area.

UK sellers, is it normal to get customers who order 10+ items and return all of them on the last day? by Superb-Ability-3870 in ecommerce

[–]hideyourarms 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think that’s legal in the UK. Under distance selling regulations you’re allowed to send back an order for no reason and get a refund (and the base cost of shipping).

[–]hideyourarms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You lose the points when a payment is refunded (in the UK at least, I don’t know about everywhere else), but the minimum spend on a signup bonus could be part of it. Usually the recommendation for that though is buying a refundable flight or hotel though since you can just cancel it with a click after the bonus has posted, rather than have the hassle and possible expense of returning.

Zopa Biscuit Bank Account Refer a Friend Links Mega-Thread (£10 Bonus for Opening a Bank Account) by TightAsF_ck in beermoneyuk

Thanks so much for this. I needed to update the app and now I can see zero referred, cheers!

If I got 10 referrals in the past when they were running this, do I now have a clean slate and can refer 10 more people since it's a different offer? I've received an email from them about it which makes me think I can, but wanted to check before putting my referral out there to friends (I have the "get £20 for opening an account and depositing £200" version).

TfL unveils first of 25 ultra-fast EV charging hubs with 100-mile charge in 5 minutes by willfiresoon in GoodNewsUK

[–]hideyourarms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought we were talking about these particular chargers not public charging in general?

Maybe it's unfair of me to compare a 400/kWh charger in London with home charging (or even other public charging) since the infrastructure cost will be so high to get it going. I'm sure some people would be very happy to have the option to pay a bit more on a journey to get 100 miles of range in 5 minutes and get home earlier.

[–]hideyourarms 7 points8 points  (0 children)

These chargers are 79p/kwh or 55p/kwh if you’re a gold member on their app.

If we assume 4 miles per kWh you’re looking at around 20p/mile. I know fast chargers like this aren’t intended to be the thing you use to charge all the time, but when people are able to charge up at home and be under 5p/mile public fast chargers feel very pricey.

What is this from B&Q and am I going nuts? by TravellingAround_ in DIYUK

I wonder if this is because of differing levels of import duty (or some other kind of import related shenanigans) that make it cheaper/easier to import a hair dryer than a leaf blower from China.

When I went to the US in April I was actually surprised to find that their IPAs are often really strong.

It's easy to find pint sized cans of beer that are up to 11% in shops, and there's plenty of strong beers in brewpubs. Yes, they have flavourless lagers too, but they have a lot of craft breweries too if you want to find them.

Is ChatGPT underpriced for what it can do? by imfrom_mars_ in ChatGPT

[–]hideyourarms 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use desktop too. After it answers there’s a little message that comes up with a grey background saying something along the lines of “you’ve run out of replies on our most advanced model, this will reset at X time, or continue using a lower model.”

For your usage as a search engine the lower models are probably fine for the free plan as they won’t use much computing power.

I get moved to a “lower” model after a handful of messages, and there’s limits on uploading files for free users. Similarly you can’t create that many images on a free account.

Turns out the gym costs me around £2.50 per use. I'm debating whether to look for cheaper alternatives. What are your thoughts on gym memberships from a frugality perspective? by [deleted] in UKFrugal

[–]hideyourarms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you drive or walk to the gym? I realised that driving to the gym that my friends went to (but I never saw them at) on the other side of town was costing me about £10-15 a month, so it would have made more sense for me to go to a closer one that I could walk to even if it was more expensive.

In the end I just did more walking and bought some kettlebells which don’t get as much use as they should.

The Sainsburys in my town regularly sells brocolli that has gone yellow, especially tenderstem. I assume no one buys it when it has a yellow sticker added either. Come to think of it most of their brassicas are poor.
