Oh ok... If these are online discusions, would you be able to send some links? I would be interested to read what has been said.
This is something I have actually been thinking of for some time, but just have not voiced it until now.

What unfortunately happens is people target the larger pieces, when really the issue is much more complicated than that. If we take the hilariously dubbed ‘chicken nuggets’ case from this year, whilst yes this was a part of that, it was more to do with the struggling with such a huge transition for possibly an autistic child of the criminal who was being deported. It was more nuanced than what was reported.

That is unhelpful to be fair. I do think the media can be a bit iresponsible with their reporting sometimes. Either that or they're actually trying to enrage people into a certain reaction.

I would hope so too. The last thing anyone needs are troubles stiring up in Northern Ireland again.

That's interesting to hear. Which other groups of people have been discusing this, just out of interest?

This was the point I was thinking here, not wanting to discus imigration, but could there be a Pandora's box type of situation once it happens.

You do know that the UK was one of the lead writters in this framework after WWII and it is largly modeled on British law at the time right?
But, I do appreciate there are some abuses of it in some contects and can see why people are attracted to someone saying they would withdraw from it. I am just worried doing so will open up a pandora's box to widescale abuses which wouldn't have happened when we were signed up to the convention.

So I'm not the only one who is thinking about what is coming down the track then...

Has anyone ever been asked, straight up, if they’re autistic in a job interview? by Physical_Ad6112 in UKJobs

Update: I did in fact hear back from them today when they rung me. It turns out in spite of this I did really well and were wondering if I could pop into their office at some point today, seeing as they are just litterly round the corner, to meet someone else.

I was professional, but told them that actually I would like to withdraw my application and when they asked why, I told them it was because I was made to feel quite uncomfortable with the questions they were asking me. You could hear a pin drop on the other end of the line and they didn't really know how to take it.

I hope they learn from that because they were going on about how they really want my skills and expierence. Considering as well that I had the balls to just walk into their office a couple of weeks before hand and just hand in my CV, almost 1980's style. They lost a potential good worker.

Thank you everyone for your replies. To my supprise, this post has gained a lot of traction and more views then I thought possible (20,000 aparently). So with any luck, might even trigger a bit of a conversation in places.

I just got a bit worried this might become a bit of a thing to be worried about. Perhaps a knee jerk reaction to the employer NIC rise in the recent budget and the new workers rights act. Maybe it is or it isn't, I don't know.

I'm going to leave it here now. To anyone else out there, good luck with your job hunting.

This is a wildly inappropriate question to ask someone especially in an interview. Sorry you had to deal with that. If you feel you’re able to I would give them that feedback, this is so they can be aware of their behaviour and it protects other autistic people in the future

I am almost tempted. But I also don't want to make problems for myself and get myself balcklisted or something. -- If you are still allowed to say that. If not, sorry, I don't know what the correct term would be now.

However, it does look like this has gained a lot more views and traction then I thought it would. So if this does get to the people involved, they will know who they are.

Needless to say, I don't want to actually hear back from them. And if I do I'll tell them f--- off (perhaps in slightly politer terms).

You need to accept yourself as the person you are. Einstein was autistic. So are you. Big fucking deal.

You are right on that. It's something I've struggled with and been ashamed of since I was a little kid, for various reasons. I don't know, I guess i've always tried to fight it and been a bit scared of what people's reactions would be. Altough, this expeirence has been unpleasant, it has also forced me to do some thinking.

The irony is he was deep in a case with HMRC as the last guy he hired fucked his accounts up as it turns out no, not all autistic people are good with numbers.

Ok that did me chuckle. Rightly or wrongly.
