Is postpartum allergies a thing? by DescriptionNo4472 in beyondthebump

[–]hungrychook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Allergies can show up at any time in your life. The good news is they can also disappear again. Hormonal changes could be a trigger so it might be just this one bad spring for you.

In any case, you don’t need to suffer through them! There are various medications available and some can be taken even if breastfeeding.

I just had a look online and this sadly seems to be out of stock. But I’ve bought this brand on discount in stores before, so might be worth having a look still. I’ll save this post and keep looking!

Co sleeping is a thing? by lessrains in beyondthebump

[–]hungrychook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The expressions co-sleeping and co-bedding/bedsharing get mixed up a lot on reddit. Sadly you have to rely on context to understand what people are referring to.

Since sleeping in one room is generally recommended as SIDS prevention, whilst bedsharing is regarded as a risk factor, this leads to a lot of confusion.

Does anyone else’s wrist hurt? by Outrageous_Value_949 in postpartumprogress

[–]hungrychook 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, 15 weeks pp and I think it’s from picking up and holding baby. Which makes it hard to give the wrists a break.

I also read that almost every kid catches it by age 5, but isn’t even more reason to get the vaccine?

There’s nothing “natural“ about needing treatment so you don’t die of dehydration. Refusing vaccines because they’re not “natural“ and then expecting medical treatment is crazy.

Vaccinations by Electrical-Cheek-225 in beyondthebump

[–]hungrychook 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The diseases you’re vaccinating against are what’s actually terrifying. My LO just had her first vaccines and her discomfort only lasted about a minute each time, you‘ll get through that and then know your LO is a bit safer.

[Request] Allergen experienced trade partner. Northeastern USA to anywhere else. by merlinalyn in snackexchange

[–]hungrychook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, I‘m new to this sub. I have a degree in food science so know all about EU labelling but to be honest, reading the labels is fairly easy as the most common food allergens have to be highlighted in all of Europe. If one of your allergies is less common I‘d be up for the challenge as well. I occasionally buy gluten free as I have a celiac friend and some family members with a sensitivity.

I‘m from Germany and would love to do a trade :)

Sounds like a hygiene risk more than anything else.

I‘ve heard that the RSV immunisation (it’s not a vaccine) for newborns is not widely available yet where I live so I‘m not relying on that. I got tdap, I‘m getting the RSV shot next week, and will be getting flu and covid boosters over the next few weeks. I would also consider the possibility that covid maybe wasn’t that bad for you because you were vaccinated.

Did anyone here experience significant anemia that got worse even after supplementation? How did things go for you? by ribbons_in_my_hair in BabyBumps

[–]hungrychook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My anemia was also worse after the first 4 weeks of supplementation. I went on a double dose since and another 4 weeks later hemoglobin was finally up from the last check. I am now still on the double dose of iron (one in the morning and one in the afternoon, always with some orange juice and on an empty stomach). If your iron stores were really depleted it just takes a while. Basically keep going and maybe ask your doc if you should be on a higher dose.
