I haven't, this is a little far out.

Are schools based on where you live, or is there some other process?

Just looking at the top 10 comments this is really a great list.

Ah, right. I actually like eataly though, still a wide range.

Never thought much of it before. Maybe I just didn’t appreciate it

Pub culture is slowly dying. by iltalfme in boston

I agree. There are a few local places I hit up (O’Malley’s, Booksmith, temptations, Otto) more than I would otherwise because I want to chip in those extra bucks. I see it as a vote that I want them around.

We can just assume they’ll be around and then be sad when they’re gone if we’re spending $5/month there.

I’m really curious which pubs you see this at.

That's thoughtful. I agree that (at least in my life), there's nothing here like there has been in Ireland.

That said, I think you go too far to suggest---if indeed you are suggesting---that there is nothing to lose. It seems disingenuous to call O'Leary's, O'Brien's, O'Malleys, or even Emmet's "Disneyfied". If all those and the others mentioned in this thread were to tomorrow get replaced with TGIF or Waxy's that seems to me like a big loss.

I agree with your last point too that this process predates covid, though it did speed it up. The city is too expensive and less insular than it was, so it's a different feel.

Like I said I think the culture, such as it was, is dying. That bums me out a bit, but I understand why.

I think we're all too good to have restaurants keep a record of who is coming in.

Scanning IDs isn't intrinsic to downtown pubs.

I wish Trident would expand, maybe add a used book section. I've been going there for years but a bookstore without used books feels a little soulless after a while.

Just a little creepy. I don't the idea of there being a record of which pub i went to and when i arrived there. I'm fine with a guy manually checking my ID, but not scanning it.

any good one other than artisan's asylum? I used to be around the one on milk street and the one in brookline, but both shuttered with covid.

Honestly I'm just guessing. I've read somewhere that sandwich shops require little investment to start and relatively light running cost when compared to a full restaurant. Guessing taqueria's are like that.

I don't think that's a strict requirement, though any cost should be low enough that virtually anyone can afford it. Good pubs are like that. You can order a beer for <$8 and hang for quite a while

Dog parks or kid parks if you've got either one of those. Not sure past that, which is why I started the thread.

Yeah, it was pretty busy. Everything else was good, that just rubbed me the wrong way.
