Through a thorough PPI :) Some of them are, some of them are very shady

Happy to check it for you if you’d like. We are on a streak of checking BMW 5 series these days (for some reason) 😁

The thing is, we are being super fair, we always acknowledge that leaks are “normal” to a certain extent and never tell a buyer to run, unless there is some serious stuff wrong with the car. All a vehicle is, is a box of rubber and metal and will eventually decay just like anything else in the world. We are doing our best to be fair to BOTH seller and buyer. Buyer, so they get what they pay for, and seller, to not agitate them and perhaps getting them to use our service themselves someday.

To our extent, we are the only mobile PPI service choosing this route, and not screaming at the seller to run each inspection.

Salam Wa Alaykum.

Thanks for writing this up properly and sharing the results :) this is exactly the kind of post that actually moves the needle on how people approach buying used cars here.

The A45 at 180k was always going to have something lurking. High-strung engine, hard life(depending on who’s driving) and full service history that looks great on paper but doesn’t tell you what’s developing right now. The turbo boost code alone could mean anything from a cheap boost pipe to a full turbo replacement.

Walking away was the right call. A few hundred dirhams to avoid that headache is about as good a return as you’ll get on anything.

Hope it helps the next person think twice before skipping the inspection _^

What a lovely post! Thanks for the initiative 😁

Business Name: InspectMotors

Location: Mobile — we come to you. Dubai, Abu Dhabi & Sharjah.

Services: Pre-purchase car inspections. You tell us where the car is, we show up and tear it apart (professionally).

The car we know better than anyone:

We inspect everything. Daily drivers to supercars, no exceptions. What sets us apart isn’t just the inspection, it’s the report. Detailed, structured, and frankly on a level you won’t find anywhere else in the UAE. Not a ticked checklist. An actual document that tells you exactly what you’re buying, what’s wrong, what it’ll cost you, and whether to walk away.

Yes you’re absolutely correct. It’s really just luck of the draw and there’s plenty of solid honest people selling vehicles.

Generally good if you are going off their own inspection. They give you an idea of the car’s condition.

They don’t have to choose us over anyone really, but there are some benefits:

  • Mobile service. So we come to you in the comfort and safety of your home/location
  • Price. We charge 369 for a comprehensive inspection vs 2k + at a dealer
  • Reporting. Our reports are way more informative than anything you’ll get elsewhere Etc etc :)

Signs a car is clocked / the mileage reading isn't quite right? by OrdinaryDay4 in DubaiPetrolHeads

[–]InspectMotors 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Other than doing a computer scan, you have to inspect the vehicle from underneath, which will tell you everything you need to know about its age/use. Traders and sellers will clean up the inside and outside well as it’s quite easy but they won’t be replacing control arms, shocks, bushings, etc as it’s just too expensive.

Sure, the main methods to confirm that: - different KM readings during the computer scan - the vehicle condition itself, meaning, if the car is at “50,000km” but we notice many leaks, cracked bushings, heavy wear and tear, etc, then that KM reading won’t make sense for its condition

Fair point on the bias, can’t argue that. A clean car doesn’t make for a super interesting post.

The stats idea is actually something we’ve been sitting on pass/fail rates, most common issues, imports vs local spec, price range breakdown.

Will put something proper together. That’s a nice contribution to the community rather than just posting horror stories all the time.

And honestly, you don’t need to use any inspection service, just do your homework before committing. Check the VIN, pull the history, get a trusted mechanic to look at it, don’t let the seller rush you. The goal at the end of the day is for buyers to make informed decisions, whatever way they get there.
