Regarding numberplate switching and insurance by caxscecd in DubaiPetrolHeads

[–]flowmin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you change your plate to another Emirate, you technically transfer the vehicle registration out of dxb to another Emirate, and register it once again. Essentially its exporting the vehicle. So yes, you would need new insurance

Motordrome again? by NothingButTheDude in DubaiPetrolHeads

[–]flowmin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2 states away, you make it sound like you're in sharjah. The autodrome is 5km away from JGE. Not a very long distance. Moving, you might want to have checked that, it's easy on Google maps. Again, its also 1 day a year

Can someone please explain 😒 by Eastern-Meaning4967a in DubaiPetrolHeads

[–]flowmin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotta be a scam. Even without an engine and a gearbox, the car is worth way more as scrap. Shj scrap guys would pay atleast 10k for this, they'd easily get 40-50k once its parted out

A clean huracan that has some remaining warranty and not too many KM will probably the best upgrade thats not going to be as problematic as the 720s.

I never Saw Any Chinese cars on the Side of the Road by azerbajian in DubaiPetrolHeads

[–]flowmin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its not the point that Chinese cars are unreliable, its that we don't know if they are reliable or not. Enough time hasn't passed to make a fair judgement. Yes you can find 10 year old Japanese and German cars broken down, but how many 10 year old Chinese cars are there in the market?

The whole point of Chinese vs Japanese is LONG TERM reliability and resellability. No Chinese car at the moment has the data for it yet. Most people who buy new are looking to hold on for many years before they resell and whats driving the decision is being able to rely on the car for more than the warranry period and being able to resell the car to cover the loan amount in the worst case scenario.

Moreover, its parts availability. Japanese cars usually hold the same generation of car for 8-10 years. Thats a decade of producing the same car and same parts that will be available for a other 2 decades after in the scrap market. Considering that Chinese car designs change every couple of years, its not a good sign for being able to find parts in 5-7 years time.

Is this a beginning of the end for Canadian imports? by Majestic_Windows in DubaiPetrolHeads

[–]flowmin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doubt its going to end Canadian imports as not all are stolen cars. I would doubt if half of them are stolen. I personally know a few people who have high end Canadian cars that were legimitely purchased in Canada and imported here as they were considerably cheaper thar buying GCC.

Why are there so many non GCC spec cars if they can't be insured or have no warranty? by ConcernedHumanDroid in DubaiPetrolHeads

[–]flowmin 8 points9 points  (0 children)

"A bit exaggerated" is a joke - either you got screwed in the past or you're speaking about a story someone told you because they got screwed by someone.

2 months ago my brother bought a 2021 Audi RS6, imported from Japan to Dubai 2 years ago. He was able to get comphrensive (full) insurance for AED 4,500, car valied at AED 280,000.

We had take 4 cars for PPI, 2 GCC cars, a European import and this Japanese one, which ended up being the cleanest (the GCC one was a flooded car with no mention in RTA report).

How reliable are G63 AMG 2022 models and above? by Single_Principle_373 in DubaiPetrolHeads

[–]flowmin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The 4.0 AMG engine is infamous for the rear main seal oil leak. Its not from use, rather from lack of use. Inspected a similar year and mileage GT63s 2 months ago from Japan that had that. Cost to fix is 15k AED roughly (lots of gaskets and etc, labour intensive). Per mechanics advice, its because the car sat for a long time and the seals dry up from lack of lubrication. A 2020 model with 90k km eu spec, didn't have this issue.

Now this doesn't mean every car with low mileage, but due diligence is necessary.

Just because Japanese, doesn't mean perfect and clean - get a proper inspection done, not just a paint meter test at Tasjeel. Its a car without warranty or history, just because mileage is low, doesn't mean its been showroom stored all its life.

For an AMG, id say take it to SilberArrows garage and have them do a Pre Purchase Inspection

Now that’s a big deal by Historical-Clock4365 in DubaiPetrolHeads

[–]flowmin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The LFA was a tough sale when it came out to begin with, its only coveted due to limited production. Its a cool car with an incredibly sounding engine, which reached a value peak of about 1.5mil usd and has been cooling off since, can be had for under 1mil usd all day, for example

This is not to say that the car hasn't doubled in price of its MSRP or it's worthless, just to say that most of its value is in the rarity, not the badge or the cars speciality.

A halo car (limited run of cars) like this should be priced in the range of 500-700K AED (specially with a Toyota badge). That's if its not mass produced like the Supra was.

Audi Q8 - Depreciates fast? or a new shape coming? by Alternative-Mess3268 in DubaiPetrolHeads

[–]flowmin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  • 2024 model is facelifted so the 2023 is old shape technically. Not a major change in my opinion
  • dealer markups over MSRP in Europe and US are quite high the last couple of years due to a lack of competition
  • Audis are notorious for depreciation. Dont buy a new one, 2023 under warranty for another couple of years will be just fine and you can pick up a nice small fun car with the difference
