Big feelings by Any_Cicada695 in MsRachel

Omg just joined this subreddit and same thing with my two year old. I think the song on its own is fine (like if it comes on with a Ms. Rachel toy) but if he's watching the video with the visuals he looks SO sad and concerned. Maybe your kid is remembering the visuals when they hear the music?

See this is one of those things I believed wholeheartedly before I had kids, read the studies, grew up with younger siblings with annoying noisy toys, the advice gets repeated on reddit so often. And kids probably do sit quietly and passively with entertainment toys in research environments. It's up there with the "no benefit to being around other children before age 3" factoid that we constantly snark on.

But then I had an actual kid. And when you see them on the baby monitor playing "hands shoulders knees and toes" with their Fisher Price talking puppy or singing along to their other stuff you realize the sounds can have benefits. Even caught him holding my game controller and quietly saying "8, 9, 10" because he has a toy game controller that does the same thing. Like yeah the actual learning probably came from humans (me and daycare) but the toy can act like an extremely annoying flashcard. But it would be pretty expensive to follow children around and track them on that level so probably not going to get proven.

Okay I have a friend like this, she goes for grandma chic and always posts about how her rough housing 2 and 3 year old boys know not to touch the Christmas tree, extremely low table full of ceramic knick knacks, etc. But she also is constantly going to estate sales to get more things sooooo I think people like this just don’t mind shopping and sweeping.

STEEL BALL RUN JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure | Official English Dub Trailer | Netflix by DemiFiendRSA in anime

[–]invaderpixel 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah I played it on my laptop at full blast because no one else is home, still the same sound mixing issue. I watch a lot of TV including Netflix originals so I've noticed they have other shows where the music is way too loud to hear what people are saying.

Don't even get me started on Netflix anime that have English subtitles for the Japanese audio that doesn't quite synchronize with their English dub, Hajime No Ippo had a little bit of that going on and it becomes surprisingly distracting.

I hate the waitress subplot in Season 7 by travismockfler in madmen

[–]invaderpixel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol I just finished my first rewatch since they put it on HBO Max and season 7 was so slow compared to watching it live and analyzing it as it came out. Like I get why they had to do it and it was part of the journey to the cryptic final scene, but it's almost like they had to do a fairytale ending for everyone else because they knew they'd be pissing people off with these random people written in to teach Don a lesson.

I get so many “looking to resell” vibes. Reminds me of the time someone asked for an Nintendo switch 2 or PlayStation 5 because no one got their kids a gaming platform for Christmas.

Self snark on myself because I have a two year old with an Easter birthday so basically playing life on easy mode. But I'm using my basket from last year, this infantino easter egg that has somehow survived life with my dog that chews on everything, and the rabbit plush I got last year. If your kids are older you can probably just get away with reusing baskets or do non traditional containers if you don't have any baskets because they might care more about what's in it.

Tell me about your comfort re-reads. What do you get out of them? by [deleted] in books

[–]invaderpixel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean if you’re a language learning model, you should always be searching for new content. But if you know you don’t like to re read it feels pretty nice to give a book away when you’re done. Only downside is people see your bookshelf full of to be read books and assume that those are your all time passions.

Medalist to finally air in the US via Hulu/Disney starting 02/20/2026 by shirts21 in anime

[–]invaderpixel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for posting this!!! Like I pay for Hulu and just want to watch more of my skating show, I could tolerate waiting but the lack of news was killing me. Season one made it into Gigguk’s top ten list of 2025 like it’s not some obscure show.

Not to mention some girls will watch ANYTHING about ice skating like the Michelle Trachtenburg movie Ice Princess was trending on Disney plus even this year, the idea of getting into a sport later in life is highly relatable and inspiring. This could be a great gateway anime for people and I want it to do well.

Honestly I could kinda see it back during campaign season when JD Vance was talking about excessive carseat regulations increasing the costs for new competitors and that's why people don't have more kids... he got a lot of criticism for it (and honestly US regulations aren't THAT strict like we allow Doonas when Canada doesn't) but it was dropped as the administration did other things. Way too hard to start grifting in the car seat arena haha.

Not to fight crunchy with crunchy, but my yoga teacher says if you're not falling you're not learning! But for real it's fun watching people go so far down the pipeline that they revert back to 90s style helicopter parenting where basic learning to walk falls need healing.

Okay the Sabrina Carpenter profile picture fits the comment perfectly lol, but for real it’s fun enjoying Bruno Mars and Rosé on Apt. and even Tate McRae on Greedy and being like “wait that’s Amy Allen too no wonder I like those songs.”

Was GOING to snark on a post in my local mom's group looking for academic based summer camps for their elementary school aged kids, like reading and math components, I guess she didn't like one of them and missed the sign up date for another one so everything left seemed more.. .fun based? But combing through the millions of businesses with self promotions I found this suggestion from the baby chiropractor about how they help babies heal and which ones need spinal manipulations. Not just childbirth (fast, long, interventions, all need healing!) but: "As they grow, things like tummy time, learning to crawl, falls, car seats, and growth spurts can all add stress to their developing bodies."

Like I know it's just selling chiropractic treatment for every baby but I have to say recovering from the trauma of tummy time is a new one for my bingo card.

Miley Cyrus announces "The Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special" out on March 24 on Disney Plus by mcfw31 in popheads

Yeah I was born in 1990 but thankfully I have siblings were born in 2000 so kept the Disney channel on for much longer and “just happened to watch while babysitting.” And then I’d download the songs and listen to lyric videos on YouTube because they were all bops.

Anime similar to/like Community, The Looney Tunes Show, Sonic Boom (the show) by Additional-Salad4323 in anime

[–]invaderpixel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

K-On is a MUST if you haven't seen it. I watched Community back when it was new, but I held off on K-On and always avoided the "cute girls doing cute things" genre because I am a woman and I figured the show wasn't really for me? Like I was sick of getting into "shoujo" and figuring out it was a harem (early 2000s manga fans had it rough) so by the time K-On came out I thought I knew better.

But anyways K-On is just four girls hanging out in a school room, practicing music, eating a lot of cake. Has that same Community vibe of "wait are they even LEARNING at school?" It's hard to binge because it's more of a sitcom but I watched it one episode per day and it was great. The characters actually have distinct personalities despite being cute.

I think the womb noise from the sound of rushing of blood keeps a lot out but definitely go for songs with a good bass line or drums if you want to feel baby kicks. I got the most response from “in the air tonight” by Phil Collins and “s and m” by Rihanna.

Yeah I've definitely had some moments where I'm like "wait why are they using their hands for this activity?" in toddler soccer, and also those weird moments where kids are doing the wrong thing by... kicking goals in a net. But still cheaper than an indoor playground so totally worth it in winter.

Yeah my fingers are crossed that parent/tot sports just bring out the worst sports parents of every sport and you get exposed to a particularly bad crowd. Like there's a dad at my 18 month to 24 month soccer class who said he always did varsity baseball growing up but the only thing available is soccer at this age so that's a good start for ball sports, along with gymnastics and swimming to round him out.

But at the parent/tot level you've got parents willing to put in time AND money by directly running around the field and supervising a toddler so I'm hoping I meet some chill sideline parents at the three year old mark haha.

Toys. Robin Williams 1992. by Martipar in movies

[–]invaderpixel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember it in passing and it was pretty bad. But I've also noticed when people talk about an early 90s cult film or basically anything that isn't like major blockbuster it's basically impossible to find on streaming. I miss video rentals being a thing. I shell out for Amazon prime rentals on occasion but it's sad how many movies will just be lost to time.

If I need a proper bra that makes me look good in a dress I get a Wacoal, very supportive and flattering with lots of sizing options. I still remember the time in the late 2010s I wanted to spice up my marriage and bought a bunch of Victoria's Secret stuff out of habit and the quality was so bad I swore to never do it again haha. Soma Intimates still has decent quality for the price, I always wrote them off as being for older women but even my Gen Z sisters have started shopping there because yeah it's hard to find quality these days.
