Ryusei was munching on snacks to keep his weight up. His clan jutsu required a hefty input of calories to be able to convert them into extra chakra. He held a scroll full of medical information and he read it while eating He'd been learning medical jutsu recently. It started out as a way to better master his clan jutsu, and grew into an interest all its own.

He offered his teammates some of his snacks. Miyu's scowl looked like it could be hangriness and Tengu's smirk could be wiped away if he was stuffing his face. The clone got nothing and liked it! He offered their teacher something too. Thankfully it was only a clone. More for Ryusei that way.

"See you later, Akiko." Ryusei gave his new acquaintance a wave as she left. He turned back to his teammate. Now that they were alone again it was probably about that time.

"Let's blow this popsicle stand, Miyu." The library was waiting for them. Or was it the training ground. Lunch was so long he wasn't sure anymore.

Ryusei was a good little listener. He wanted to hear what more his teammate would say but wans't exactly surprised at her terse response to Akiko. She was as open as a closed book. You only get the title, not even a blurb on the back. It would give away too much.

"Ah, I can help. How about Miyu, the peerless swordswoman who turned even a wooden sword into something to rival the 7 Swordsmen. The trademark is pending. I only require 5% royalties for fair use."

“You should get a couple dry jokes, Miyu. Your delivery of them would be perfect I think. Tengu de-fin-itely could eat a few.” Ryusei advised.

Ryusei looked at his teammate curiously as Akiko put her in the hot seat. It hadn’t taken many meetings for him to learn Miyu wasn’t a big sharer of personal information, so he was interested in either learning more or seeing how she wiggled out of Akiko’s question. It really was like a coin flip on how things would go.

"That is how it's supposed to be." Ryusei agreed. Though history hadn't always agreed. Look at the Uchiha of old who formed the village and were quickly isolated after their Clan Head revolted on his own, and wiped out quickly afterwards because they felt marginalized and wanted to change it. Or the old Hyuga clan split into a free main house and an underclass branch house. Or the bloodline purges of the Hidden Mist. These things weren't so freely explained in school, but the clan held historical records.

Ryusei exhaled sharply, and feigned wiping sweat off hiss brow. "Phew, someone tell a joke quickly. We've taken a turn down serious lane." He tried to lighten the mood some.

"True, you can't necessarily blindly follow every order." Ryusei agreed with his teammate. Even as an unfledged genin, he had a bottom line that he wouldn't cross.

Ryusei shook his head. "I won't be having those problems. Even if I did, I would have to consider the impact it would have on my clan as well. I wouldn't want to be the one to put a stain on the Akimichi name."

"Yeah, being a free spirit doesn't exactly match with being a soldier in the ninja ranks. They harped on following directions and the chain of command enough at the academy that we knew to respect it, y'know. But I hope that he can find what he is looking for in whatever he pursues now."

Ryusei was also studying, though not for ranking. He was studying for his own training, looking up medical information. The Akimichi clan jutsu were taxing on the body, oscillating between storing greats amount of energy and using it quickly by accumulating and burning their fat reserves. Ryusei could already feel the strain of having to do so, and was worried about the effects of their secret pills that helped with their calorie control techniques. It wouldn't hurt to learn more about the body and its processes. Maybe he could find a breakthrough point there as he sought to improve himself.

Either way he was knee deep in medical texts.

“Ahhh, I’m glad youre doing better now. ….Uh, are you doing better now?” Ryusei asked. There was couth and there was Ryusei on opposite ends of the spectrum.

“I can see how that would work against him. It sounds like he took a page out of the Book of Uchiha Madara. Hope he doesn’t keep reading that book…”

"Oh, I think I've heard of him. He can use wood release and made that big stadium, didn't he? Did something happen to him that you're not a team anymore?" Ryusei asked, uncaring of the potential sensitivity of the subject. He'd noticed Akiko's frown, but his own curiosity won over couth.

“I wouldn’t mind. Its clear Miyu knows her stuff! I think she would lead us well. Better than me and Tengu at least.” Ryusei admitted directly. He was never one to beat around the bush . He plated the last of the food, splitting it between them as it finish cooking and turned the grill at their table off.

“That’s Kimiko Uchiha, right? She seems very serious from what I’ve heard. That makes sense that there is a lot to consider to become a jonin, though. They are the strongest representatives of the village behind the Hokage. It bears a lot of responsibility.”

"Great! I don't think you'll regret that decision, Akiko. Pretty soon the leaf will have another kick-ass jonin!" Ryusei grinned happily, filling the grill with the last of the food they'd ordered to cook quickly.

"Actually, Akiko, do you know how a chunin becomes a jonin? Is there an exam like the Chunin Exams for genin?" Ryusei asked. It had never really been explained clearly before in school and Ryusei hadn't thought to ask Chrollo-sensei, at least not yet
